The sprawling Twinwater Tides encompass a wide peninsula separated from the rest of the landmass by Shadowlume Forest, made up of young pine trees which are tall but thin, their canopies sheltering from the elements but not thoroughly, and not yet dense enough to blot out the sun. Continuing north, aimlessly sprawling sandy pathways begin to form as the forest gives way to wetlands. Solid earth becomes interspersed with shallow ponds and ditches, well hidden by water-rooting plants leading to the southern shore of Moonpetal Pond. The waters of Moonpetal spread wide across the territory, though only reach twelve feet at their deepest point, and provide fresh, cool drink for the Breakers. Even farther north, Crescentwatch rises proudly out of the ground, the last sign of solid land as the rest of the territory gives way to the trickily-navigated Nightbloom Marsh.
Inner Territories
SHADOWLUME FOREST
Shadowlume Forest offers shade and cover from the elements when necessary, a retreat among the young pines often called when storms grow particularly heavy over the rest of Twinwater Tides. Providing the true border between the Wavelight Breaker’s pack lands and the rest of the continent, the trees of Shadowlume are broadly spaced but thoroughly surrounded in undergrowth, only a few carefully monitored game trails allowing easy access with many other paths made inhospitable in a combination of thickly rooted foliage and smelly, freely-flowing sticky sap.
MOONPETAL POND
A large, vaguely crescent-shaped pond sprawling across a large portion of the peninsula, with the deepest points reaching only 12 feet and several small landmasses out in the middle of it all. Moonpetal Pond has been named such for its clear surface and the large number of tiny silver-white fish that have made it their home. They seem mostly nocturnal, coming alive at night for their lithe scales to catch faint ripples of light, like petals of a flower made from the moon. They don’t make very good eating if something else is available, but the sight is a pretty one.
CRESCENTWATCH
A massive formation of porphyry stone rising out of the marshlands just north of Moonpetal Pond, Crescentwatch forms the most visible landmark of Twinwater Tides. Where the Pond and the Marsh may bleed into the horizon, Crescentwatch allows the Breakers to orient themselves from the edge of Shadowlume Forest to the very tip of Nightbloom Marsh. The purplish-red stone is rough with crystal particles which catch even the moonlight, not outlandishly but subtly catching the eye from a distance. The rock itself is porous, particularly where it contacts water, and so the bottom of Crescentwatch also forms a number of small, natural caves around its thick base, perfect for individual dens, with smaller pockets nearer to the top where water collects in storms.
CAVE OF MEMORIES
The largest cave in Crescentwatch with a few small holes worn right through the top, allowing small shafts of light to illuminate things during the day. Though frequently the floor is covered in water, but the Cave of Memories holds far more important things, the symbols of Wavelight Breaker history immortalized in deep scratches and blood which will only fade as the very earth around them erodes.
NIGHTBLOOM MARSH
Characterized by the sheer number of plants which seem to open and transform themselves in the night, Nightbloom Marsh makes up the majority of the pack’s hunting grounds. From early spring until surprisingly late in the autumn, Nightbloom Marsh boasts an enormous firefly population, lighting the area in thick clusters which are easily disturbed by the passing of prey and predator alike. Looking across the marshlands in the dead of night will show an ever-changing dance, some flickering like flame in classic shades of yellow and red, and others taking on strange and unusual colors, green and blue and faint pink among many others which feast upon the night-blooming flowers commonly found further from the beaches.
DUNEGLOW STRAND
A long strip of beach separated by a thin seawater river, Duneglow Strand shows the remains of more porphyry rocks ground down into the fine sand–not because it carries the same color as Crescentwatch, but because of the glittering particles of silica and quartz left behind in their erosion which glitter all the same in sun- or moonlight. During low-tide, the Strand reveals tidepools encrusted in porphyry dust, home to young and small sea-life.
PINESHADE DOMAIN
Within the hold of Shadowlume Forest holds the Pineshade Domain, south of the stretch of the Strand. Tall, old world pines tower overhead, their canopy thick enough that the most spiritual of the Breakers warn the Moonbeams from traveling there alone—for the moon’s guiding light cannot penetrate the spindly branches. Others think it is the place for meditation, to test one’s self. With the foliage thick in this area, and ever present pine needles smothering the sandy floor, the Pineshade Domain also makes a plentiful home for hares and deer.
