Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Oydis took the risk of trespassing on a pack's territory to hunt for food. She had caught a plump rabbit on the territory and was now eating her tasty meal high up in the tree. She was clearly visible to any creature below but as long as she was in the trees she was safe. The reason she was hunting on claimed land is because she was carrying offspring. She needed to keep herself well fed to feed herself and her unborn young. Oydis was always careful and at times she would take the risk on hunting on claimed land. The risk was necessary though. She ate happily as she kept an eye below for any activity that may happen.

Fortune, no matter how blessed, could only last so long. Calhoun had been thankful for the silence while reclaiming his home. The High Elk had been clear with His blessing, guiding lost wolves to these woods like a beacon, all the while keeping the borders quiet from strife. Unfortunately, today's patrol would not yield the same results and only proved no matter how secluded they may be, there was still reason to stick to a tiresome routine. Something had trespassed... as for what, Calhoun could not say. It was a scent he was unfamiliar with, though it reminded him vaguely of the mountain cats from his travels with Edith and Warwick. He didn't call, not right away. First, he needed to find their stray visitor and ensure their threat was indeed in the area.

Whatever predator now lingered had been bold... it wouldn't take long for Calhoun to find signs of the hunt. Trieweborne might harbor no children, but they were still few in numbers. Every piece of food mattered, especially as the chills of winter teased the wind. As the stench of something catlike grew strong, the king slowed in his steps and called for backup. He had been fortunate to avoid encounters with threats like bears or cougars before, but now that he had no choice he'd rather not face it alone.
