Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She had been traveling for so long. Meeting new individuals. After her last meeting she had set off to finish nd something new. To get a feeling of this vast land. It offered so much. Too bad she had her father's shadow looming over her. She couldn't relax. The feeling that someone was always looking at her, following her, was not leaving her mind. Sometimes she could feel her hackles rising and goosebumps going through her body. Maybe a rest. She halted in the forest, tall trees casting shadows that grew darker and darker with the setting sun.

She caught the sight of the entrance between big trees. Curiosity go the better if her judgement, or maybe it was fear. Without another thought she went inside and followed the tunnel to something that made her gasp. "Damn." Was the only thing that left her mouth and it was only a whisper. Eyes scanned the distance and as she looked around, her legs took her further into this little sanctuary that would keep her safe tonight. Or at least that was what she told herself. This feeling of uncertainty made her angry. If she could kill her insecurities, she would.

Hrafnsvaktin wasn't Elsiphe's first choice, rather, it was her only choice. She came from temperate lands where seasons regularly changed. It was a place of warmth, as corrupt and poisonous as the people were. And from what little she'd learned of this world, Canis, there were only a handful of packs which scattered its mystifying landscape. None of which seemed to entirely suit her unique tastes. Hrafnsvaktin was as good as any. The people were honest, albeit a little unrefined, and they were hard working. But most importantly, they didn't use her as their form of private relief. She may not have spoken their mother tongue, but they understood.

That day, Elsiphe absconded the homelands in search of satiating her desire to learn about the land. One couldn't be too knowledgeable. Her paws carried her further south towards the coast where she'd found this pocket of paradise. A pair of twisting oak trees gave way to a shallow cavern opening that blossomed with the glow of bioluminescence. It lured her like a siren attracts a sailor— a magnetic lure that pulsated with clandestine promise. She followed the soft glow, for Elsiphe liked to surround herself with beautiful things. It made her feel less ugly than she'd felt she was.

As she entered, the soft lighting cast a filter of shaded blues and lavender across her slicked pelt. She'd taken a moment to enjoy her surroundings had it not been for the stranger before her. At first, she thought them a male with their burly form and towering stature. But closer inspection revealed a female instead. She was far bigger than Elsiphe and donned an almost periwinkle tinted coat. Her back was faced to her, but Elsiphe couldn't complain. She silently appreciated the coils of muscle and brawn that flexed beneath the romantic lighting.

“Beautiful, is it not?” Elsiphe mused, her voice nearly a purr as she'd make her presence known.

In the deafening silence around her she could hear her heartbeat. Slow and steady beats that made her think she was ruining the atmosphere just by being there. This place seemed so peaceful, so inviting and so pure that it made her look like a parasite that would stick itself to it's beauty and at some point, ruin it-- like she always did.

Dual colored orbs couldn't take enough of the dim light and the strong silhouettes of the trees, the flowers and all the vegetation around her. Critters were roaming the ground here and there, undisturbed by her presence. Probably because they got little to none visitors. Maybe that's why this place was doing so well. Hidden from the eyes of the greedy.-- She was so lost in thought that the presence of the other wasn't heard or felt. The only thing that got her out of her trance was the softest words, uttered with consideration. The only indication she gave that she had heard the words was a slight tense of her muscles and a twitch of ear. A moment later her head slowly turned so she could look over her shoulder, her eyes lowering to the image of a doll, much smaller than her with a voice, much, much softer than her own. She looked her over and took a step to the side before turning her head back towards the forest. The woman didn't seem to be here for a fight and it would've been a pity if she was. They'd ruin this beautiful place in mere seconds.

Muscles relaxed and her deep baritones finally rang in the air around them. "Very." She began though it probably sounded like it was the only thing she'd say. "Haven't seen anything like it. And I've seen a lot." She explained and finally turned around to face the other woman and meet her eyes with confidence and curiosity.

Elsiphe made it a point to not appear hostile to strangers, regardless of how nefarious her intentions were. It was far better, and more entertaining, to keep them on their toes. Besides, she was not built for brute strength and gnashing teeth. Her form was slender, dutifully crafted for finesse and secrecy. A rogue through and through. But this was no instance of wickedness. Elsiphe didn't come here to stir trouble when she'd just recently settled into a new home. No, better to play it safe, for now, and to have a bit of fun while she was at it.

The ebony lady slipped down from the cave entrance where he paws met the cool, mossy ground of the floor below. She approached the bigger, taller female, jade eyes glimmering with false fascination and curiosity, “You read my mind.” She purred, ripping her gaze from the woman to admire their glowing surroundings. Several paces were taken forwards before she tossed a head over her shoulder, “Elsiphe of Hrafnsvaktin. What's your name, stranger?”
