Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The heavens grew angry above him.

Yet he had not stopped the patrol. Not for the dark, not for the sky's rumbles. The rocks of the mountain slopes had begun to grow slick, the muddy trails between stones threatened to overthrow the guardian of Velaris.

It was good that he had both experience and strength on his size.

He dragged himself to a ravine between mountain stones that flowed with water now. His piss would leave no marker there in such strong weather conditions. As if in agreement, the heavens roared with a rumble. Still he refused to finish this patrol, he forged onward. Fur slicked close to his figure with the weight of the rain.

A figure up ahead caught his attention, illuminated by a far flash of lightning.

The rain could not have chosen a worse time, coming down on her like it had a personal vendetta, as it if were trying to impede her progress. A ridiculous notion, but it crossed her mind nonetheless. The star-speckled woman would grumble as she trudged on, water up to her ankles now as she moved through the ravine. If the rain didn't let up any time soon...

Savan frowned at her own thoughts as they brought her to a halt. Being caught down here would be her death if the storm got any worse than it already was. As if to emphasize her thoughts, a crack of thunder pealed over head, so loud that it made her ears lay flat against her skull. Not good.

Through the rain, the Shade looked about for some kind of shelter, some kind of hole in the wall. Would that be safer than forging her way out of the ravine?

He did not think that she, among all the bodies here, might need a guard through the storm.

Still he was prepared to slip into the role like it was familiar. He called out, low but warm, between the rolls of thunder. His wish was not to startle her upon such slick footing. If she looked upon him, he was prepared to close the distance between them.

Even if only he might be able to be a sort of...physical shield. Against falling or slipping. They could find shelter somewhere near here and descend when the skies cleared. He was certain of it.

Her ear twitched at the sound of another voice, swinging her head around to look and see who it was. She hadn’t expected anyone else to be out and about in this weather, surprise flicker across her face when she saw who it was. Prvak. She chuffed back to him, rain soaking through her coat and bringing a chill she rarely felt. If anyone found her out here, might as well have been him. At least he didn't have a penchant for getting under her skin quickly.

Certain that she didn't need to tell the man that they needed to find shelter, Savan began to move, clear blue eyes scanning the ridges of the mountain side for an opening, even a small one, that they could slip into and take shelter. An annoyance tickled the back of her mind, one that said that had it not been raining, had it not been a time that they needed to find cover, they would have found something immediately, without even having to try.

And so he escorted, wordless and without second thought.

She was nimble footed compared to him. He was made for steps of thunder and wide paws. As if the rain agreed, it rolled low and loud overhead. He had no choice but to straighten his posture some as he moved alongside her.

He did not dare flatter himself by thinking she, of all wolves, needed any sort of guard but...he was glad to be here. Standby should a rock give way or the land become too slick at these angles. It was a good guard to be focused on the task anyway and the task was indeed guarding.

Just...against the weather instead of teeth.
