Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Meant for Vengeance!

The flames were reaching, they burnt his flesh and seared him like meat for a feast. He roared in it's pain, feeling the seething heat as it invaded every crevice of his body. Like twisted mats of limb and bone as he tossed and turned, he cried tears of hopelessness into a dead night. No mother would come to lick his wounds or calm his mind.

It was a painful process to be reborn. The flesh simply was not made for the agonizing transformation. It was against nature, a true mockery of god. Everything lived and everything died was his rule but, the devil that came tearing through blood did nothing else if not rebel.

His crumpled figure, fatigued from the metamorphosis, laid in a heap upon the soiled earth. Breathing labored, he rested in his own blood now until it seeped into the ground and made itself a wicked fertilizer, to be feasted on by worms and insects. The man did not move for quite a while, perhaps even a full day. Time stretched on for longer and longer when one was in pain. The energy surrounding him, and the wails he did make ensured that nothing within earshot was curious enough to dare test the beast. He tried his best to sleep through the agony.

When he awoke, his eyes flashed wide in their crisp blueness and red, staring at the nature. The sounds of birds chirping delicately in the far away tree line. The wind blew up his back and whisked his thick coat, causing him to raise his head.

The pain had subsided, it seamed, and the devil had one again rose. Where he came from this time, he wasn't sure. Perhaps from the ground or from the sky, but it hardly mattered. All in all...

He was here.

When he finally regained the strength to stand and walk, the man would wander the open expanse. Looking out for any other signs of life, particularly one that he could communicate with. Seeking a new mind to infect, it seemed.

Beyond the mist he wandered. With @Sanguinus guarding the borders, Vengeance was free to roam once more and see what kind of poison he could spread through the lands touching what was his. The way the air changed the further he walked from the Reach was noted. His odor, the Nightwalker stench had reached far and wide beyond their borders which pleased him. Let it be an early warning to all who came near, and let the Boogeyman laugh in their faces should they cry unaware of his claim and presence.

The scent he did note was that of feline. A stink he had grown to hate. A group of lone creatures thinking themselves better than wolves, the perfect beasts, predators that together could surely take down anything. After all, they were the fucking Nightwalkers. There was nothing they couldn't take down.

What he saw walking along the rolling hills and rocks was not the felines that stunk up this place - but a canid. A chuff echoed in the landscape, announcing his presence as he lumbered fourth. Whoever this was, he'd find out. Being the first individual he's come across somewhat non-aggressively being far enough from his mist. “Hunting felines?” was his poor ice breaker - clearly not very interested in the felines but instead, eyeing the man before him with strange colours.

Vengeance is a disgusting, terrible character. I do not condone anything he does or thinks of IC, and though I enjoy writing him, he also disgusts me often. He is a villain and nothing more.

When the hulking creature came knocking, the devil did answer. He chuffed in return, suddenly remembering that he was a wolf. No matter which form he took, he was still able to do his dirty deeds with no problem so, the man hadn’t even noticed any difference.

Hunting felines?

At first Lucy was rather perplexed. Yet the way the stranger looked at him made him smile.
”Sure am!” He barked.
”To hell with those fuckers.” Nevermind that he, too, once took the form a feline at one point. It hardly mattered, he was never truly one of them. He was always just himself, regardless of shape or size.

”I can’t seem to find any though.” His expression changed to the form of a false frown, a sort of pout.
”Is it you that’s scared them off, eh?” The man’s golden and red tipped tail swished behind him idly.

There was a curious look to his eyes, a sort of thirst for knowledge and information. He wondered how the gruesome looking creature would react to his response to him.

The way the stranger walked intrigued Lucy. It was the walk of a dangerous man. Dangerous men made dangerous deals with even more dangerous devils.

Lucy liked this man.

A slow blink was offered as the other with a strangely upbeat tune answered him. Vengeance knew what he looked like, and he was proud of it; but knew that he wasn't the type that anyone would often look at and be chipper to. Something was off. He could smell it. Either this one was a dunce and ignored their instincts - if they had any - telling them that danger was near... or they too were predatory in their own way.

After all, when one looked at another and saw their own reflection, fear was far from their mind. A familiar demon was a comfort to those cut from the same cloth... and the brute would would watch this one carefully with that thought buzzing around his brain like the flies clinging to his pelt.

“Yes.” He answers after a pause. A chilling word that he didn't bother hiding his suspicions of this one. If he were daft they would pick up on this and question or shrink under it... or, if they were comfortable around him, they would continue with this brightness they brought. “Where are you heading?” He opens the conversation further, wanting to get this man talking even more than just pandering to whatever he said.

God, he didn’t just like him- he was starting to love him. If Lucy wasn’t one to turn his nose up at all kinds of physical intimacy, perhaps he would be head over heels trying to get in his pants.

The man’s bright face shone brighter with a toothy smile. Any creature that could scare off some of nature’s finest by scent or by presence alone was a creature that peaked Lucy’s interest, deeply.

The devil pondered the man’s question. He just got here, he didn’t have any plans yet. But he didn’t want this guy knowing his schedule was completely open.

“Hopefully in the direction of fine women.” Lucy stifled his childish giggle. If only this man knew.
