Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The big, black form of wolf stood out among the grassy hills on this sunny afternoon as he strolled through the area. For the last several seasons, he had no real destination; he just followed wherever his paws took him. He hadn't expected to end up back in the area, but then again, this was where he had last seen her. Would he always end up where she was? Then again, there was every reason she may not even be here any longer. This time around, he promised himself he would not seek her out.

He would not.

Steady briefly shook his head as his steps carried him forward, as if he could simply release her from his mind. What a joke that was. He huffed to himself, then changed course as the smell of water entered his nostrils on a breeze. His black pelt did nothing to relieve the heat from this afternoon, maybe some water would help. It wasn't long before the hill dipped into a line of trees and he was at the bank of a stream. He paused, his eyes dancing here and there, in case he wasn't alone. Once he was satisfied danger didn't lurk in the shade, he lowered his body to the ground and began to drink his fill of the cool water.

Several minutes later, he lifted his head as his tongue snaked out to lick the remaining droplets from his maw. He walked just a few feet from the bank and plopped his body at the base of a shady tree. This seemed like as good a place as any to rest. His head remained upright, his ears still alert for sounds, as his eyes softly closed.
