Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Hydra had not forgotten how he had come here, and had seen how he remained. He had come some time ago, and though Spring had come and gone her heart had remained in the stasis of Winter. Now, at last, there was a thaw. The ice cracked and splintered.

There was only one she wished to see in the face of it all. And no longer did that face have eyes of warm honey—

She followed the path of his scent. He who remained steadfast throughout. He who caused the icemelt to begin at all, when the rest of that vital organ might have become frost bitten and useless.

He spent his times watching the bison herd when he could. He dreamed of a great hunt still, one led by himself and Leta. He was not so bullheaded a man to think he could guide Empyrean alone in taking such beasts. Yet still he thought that a feast might be well.

For the peace ought to be cherished while it was here, before fall and winter tangled them into a more survivalist mode. Already he carefully watched the trees for change of leaves, even if it might be weeks away. Still he prepared for the migration of herds.

In his mind through all of the changes had, and always would be, Empyrean.

Home, he had called it before when it had felt more a dream. Now it had become home in a way that rooted him firmly to this place for good.

Hydra proved a reminder of that, each time he saw the swath of dark fur — or when he bathed in the Tsuki Springs. When he chased off coyotes or hunted for caches. She breathed through each part of his day, this he felt he knew for certain by now.

He welcomed her without second thought, without question of what she may have truly come for. It was only good to gaze upon her warmly in the silent moments of first finding. His tail waved too and he plodded closer on large, bearish paws.
