Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

A pained look on his face greets the land, blue eyes open and observing. Waiting for answers- something more. A warrior-kin, to pick him up off the ground.
"あなたはまだ死んではいません!" They would say, grabbing him by the back of his shirt and physically pulling him onto his feet.

Yet no such thing happened. The birds chirped and sang like they hadn't in so long. His ears twitched to their melody, causing him to raise his head in wonder. Was the battle over? How could his family leave him behind like that? On a battlefield, none-the-less?

When attempting to reach his hand out to catch himself while he stood, the paw of a beast stepped before him. The man yelped, his body and expression very animated as he withdrew with fear. Head turning quickly, only to see no beast. No other creature at all, really.
Was he hallucinating? Did the fumes of burning fires bewitch his head?

The man stepped out once more, the claws of the beast again doing the same. This time he stopped to observe the beast, following up it's arm only to find that he was the source. Heart sinking into his stomach, he howled in panic. What trick had been laid for him now?
No matter how much he shook his head or blinked and rubbed his eyes, the beastly form he took wouldn't go away. A tail followed after him as he ran, ungainly and unbalanced, on all fours. The man would trip in his restlessness, tumbling down from the rocky outcropping he awoke on. The trees greeted him at the bottom, along with the sounds of the forest.

He sat, bewildered at all the new sounds he could hear and scents he could smell. This must be a dream of some kind...

or he fell into some very questionable plants.

Two halves.

Once one was now bisected into mirrored images of himself. He had died? Yes. Sliced in a war he didn't want to participate in but forced out of pride for his clan and not wanting to be seen as a cowardly deserter... despite how much he wanted to just sing songs and write poetry to entertain the future children that would hear it.

He had so many too. Beautiful songs and literature he had yet to write, and now he wouldn't have the chance to. All because of some feud he knew little about, and even less so had the interest in learning about should it add fuel to a fire that wasn't burning within him as it did with his kin.

At least he was two. Not anymore. Reborn into a body of velvet fur, he laid there in the grass. Above him was a mountain, and he wondered while staring up at it what it might be named. If he knew it. If this land was familiar to him or if he had found himself in some strange new world.

Well, that thought was interrupted by the sound of someone falling along with a few pebbles from loose rocks. Fern eyes wandered to the sprawled out individual, seemingly equally as lost as Shigure was and he approached. Already accustomed to this body after waking up days prior to today. Ohayou gozaimasu!” It would take him time to get accustomed to the waving banner behind him. What a strange thing a tail was, but he could get used to it.

As his ears listened intently to the forest, in rather distinct awe, the sudden interruption of a voice startled him. His blue eyes, deep and intense like an endless pool of water- a herald of his family name. The shining symbol of his family. They flashed wide with fear when they met the visage of a wolf.

"今話したばかりですか?"

He made visible attempts to create distance between them, although it was hard to do so in a body he was not used to. Scrambling his feet across the ground and pushing against the earth. It wasn't very effective, but it made his feelings about the situation rather clear.

Shigure was the picture of calm. Like the swaying leaves on a strong oak tree. Pushed by the breeze but never falling until they were ready. He was tall while the other was sprawled out, but his face was kind, soft, non-judgemental even if the other had panicked and tried to make a hasty escape with legs as strong as a new born fawn.

“Mochiron.” His smile wasn't derisive, but calming instead. Understanding the panic of the other male and how shocking it might have been for them if they too just woke up in a new, feral body. “Kega o shite imasu ka?”
