Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write, though the game also rewards high activity
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • Writing is collaborative, and so is our supportive community
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

random prompt; "Your character is particularly hungry and hunting hasn't been great lately. The only hunt you have had in a while looks to be running directly for claimed lands."

A stag elk, big and beautiful with a rack of antlers poised on his mantle. Qarqan's mouth watered. Food was becoming a bit scarce with the coming winter. The bear was waiting for it to get particularly serious before properly raiding the caches of the nearby wolves- or even going out of his way to disturb their hunts. It was only the beginning of the winter still.

Qarqan had moved himself to a fair sprint- still young and spry he was at only 10 years. But the elk had seen him coming from far across the grassland. Even though a decade on this earth, every year the bear had to re-learn how to hunt. He chased it for a while before he saw it sprint in the direction of the particularly painful biters. He slowed to a stop before standing there placid in the snow.

He would fight them all over again and wrestle something from their jaws but, the recent wounds they gave him were still healing. The most of them had since healed but, the largest gashes were still scarring over. The beast opted against it. Shame.
A snack and perhaps a flirt would be worth the time, sure- but not today.

The bear huffed, sending steaming breath into the air to rise and eventually evaporate. "Oh well" He had thought, before plopping down fat into the snow right where he once stood.
