But they didn't need her, for all she knew, they could throw her away once they knew she was useless.

She wasn't able to go far, settling herself at the entrance, paws stretched out to feel the gliding rain. She sniffled, sobbing to match the thunder that struck the earth. Confined to den, she barely saw what was outside, the beauty of the lake and sky, and even the stars were hard to see. The freedom of to roam where she could — all had ended, as her legs were no more.
