Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

These lands are becoming too dangerous for loners. She almost wants to go back to Hieronymous and his austere wife who hates her and pretend she's a good pack wolf. But she's a goofy little woman who doesn't know the right way to be a pack wolf, as shown from how she shoved all her paws in her mouth talking to Ira. Ira would probably grow to hate her more the more she stuck around Vanderfell. Aaah, but it's so hard to find a friendly hunting territory! She's chosen this valley for a reason. There are a few elk living here, that know that they're not nearly in as much danger here as they are in official hunting grounds.

So she manages to stalk one down. An elderly one, one who seems to accept his fate as Anneke runs him down. His exhaustion point is hit quickly, and a few good bites to his legs bring him down. Once he's on the ground, it's over. Anneke may be small and silly, but she knows how to hunt! She wouldn't have made it if she hadn't. Oh, but how she misses her parents! She'd chosen to remain with them, and now she's separated from them-- her mother by these circumstances, her father by the illness that took him. If she had a family with her, she would hunt more readily. As it stands, she's starting to look a little lanky.

But this boon! She makes a quiet prayer to the great light for this feast, then starts to dig in. She appreciates every part of the meal, filling her belly quite readily. Then her eyes catch the sight of another wolf. Her first instinct is to snarl and charge at the other wolf to defend her kill. But then Proper Logic fills her head. She's not able to eat the entire elk. She should be nice. Licking her chops, she raises her head and clears her throat to prevent any sort of phlegm from interrupting her speech.

"O Traveler!" she calls. "You seem well and truly alone, are you not? I would hope that you do not have an entire company. Thrice now I have checked the perimeter, and no trace of claim has made itself known to me." She offers a slight smile, hoping that this isn't a wolf who's starting some sort of group here to chase her off. "These bountiful lands grow more hostile with each passing day to wolves who prefer a life of quiet freedom. Should you be a wolf of solitary persuasion, would you care to join me in this feast? There is enough meat here for two, perhaps even three."
