the light of the bright had shone upon them. the ritual was underway, the beast of a man settled nearby to ensure none disturbed.

but in a sudden turn of events, water swirled. waves crashed and thunder roared.

frantic, he moved, eyes seeking out only one. his mistress. but he couldn't see her. he couldn't see anything.

water swarmed. caging him. blinding him.

his lungs were bound, filled to the brim he seized, then flailed as the raging water stole him away.

and then there was only darkness.

startled, he awoke.

light poured down over his eyes. he grunted, shifting his chin.

standing unsteadily, he wobbled. his body ached. but when he finally righted himself, he realized then that he was not on two legs, but four?

a hoarse sound escaped him. a... growl? then another, deeper and more discontent. a snarl, lips curling back to reveal newer, sharper teeth.

shifting his weight, he searched his form. four legs, long and sturdy—powerful. fur, a cloak of midnight and crimson. paws, large and beast-like. claws, sharp like knives—ready to kill. somehow, he found that he liked this version of himself far better than his former.

away with his human life, it seemed. but onto more important things...

what in the hell had happened? and more importantly, where the fuck was he?!

something moved. a flash of fur nearby.

he bristled, shoulders taut. whirling, his teeth on display, he prepared to lunge at whatever or whomever had the audacity to tread near.

but when he took in the sight of darkened and silver fur, he paused. something was familiar. but as for what, he couldn't tell.

posture still stiff, braced, his long limbs carried him a few steps closer until he was nearly face to face with the creature. another, like him. but were they really?

as if in slow motion, his eyes raved over them, trying to remember. trying to find the truth.
