Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported

The moon was red.

Celnes dipped to the range, around was some slumbering doe and stag's of elk that peacefully were uncaring. The sky soaked in that warm tone, it was unmatching to the more colder view above to the galaxy she saw, but instead of the usual white of the full moon, it singed in blood. However it wasn't the most unusual part that came from the region, and she knew sometimes other colors tended to take to the sky.. Would a priestess see it differently then she does? She wondered how her young would think of the red moon.

Sitting in a clearing, her tail was curled around and she looked to up blandly. At the very least, it was pretty.

The night spoke in hues of red, the moon above reflecting the somber mood within.  His steps were heavy, weighted with a past long since lost without a glimmer of hope upon the horizon.  He was an unfettered soul, the ties that bound reduced to nothing more than distant memories.  No matter the physical distance in both time and space, he could not run from the compression that plagued his heart.

His face contorted with a wince, the pain invisible to those who may bare witness.  His tail hung limply behind as the large brute carelessly trudged forward, his head low as rose colored eyes guided his path.  The world around him meant little, and though he could smell the proximity of family packs upon the air, surrounding him on all sides, it did little to dissuade him.

Nearby, sleeping prey tickled his senses, their proximity almost taunting... and while his stomach protested, not an eyelash was bat in their direction.  He'd have continued onward, the pull of water guiding him to help subside the hunger, had it not been for a particularly potent scent of another.

Zombie paused mid step, his ears pulling forward as he lifted his heavy head to peer into the darkness.  It would seem he'd crossed the path of a female... likely one belonging to the myriad of scents that had him surrounded.  She sat, alone, a perfect clearing for stargazing.  Or rather, moon-gazing.  His own lifted briefly, following hers to drink in the blood-moon above.

Dipping his gaze back down, an ear twisting behind him, Zombie cast his eyes away, intent on continuing on his way.  This creature... she was not his... and he wanted for nothing from no one.  His paw lifted, but there was hesitation in his step.  Her green eyes flashed before him, forcing his own to close to capture their glitter as she instantly faded away.  His jaw clenched, and without pondering a moment longer, Zombie turned toward the lone female and slowly approached.

He made no effort to hide his heavy stride, but walked with casual purpose.  All he would offer was a clearing of his throat.  Partially because he didn't know what to say, but mostly because there was a very good possibility his voice would find a strain from being mute for so long.

(Ooc:  Hope it was ok to pop in with him ^^;)

Celnes could admire it all she wanted to, seeing the beauty within red and in the autumn of so. With the trees blazed in that same hue, she thought it was a pretty little scene, and maybe meant nothing more. Though she realized that was a foolish, foolish mistake as her gaze casted to a man — what was the pinnacle of a religion that hated them so, where she twisted and turned to suit it more to her desires and needs.. Just another way to read it, she so thought, but if the elders looked upon her, they would think the moon was meant to cast her awareness. For a man of white appeared, a soft greeting as he opened himself to be noticed. He was not fully white though, casting in some silvers and darker grays, but his eyes..

Rosen in color, not as red as the moon, but as she looked at the sky above, and then to him, there was a moment of silence. White was often the meaning of something bad to come, and a wariness was growing within her heart. A bad sign to come, and he so shown that. She wasn't so out of the works of how to read nature itself to not notice the moon of red, and the appearance of a monochrome wolf with similar eyes..

But she smiled, politely sitting and looking at him, "my.. It seems you are unaware this is Elkshire territory." Unofficial as it was, the wolves of the elk forest attempted to claim as much as they could, and patrol as so. The scent rarely remained and was difficult ; but the Queen was greedy.

all is good! apologies for her, mean, mean thoughts

Her reaction to his appearance was well controlled.  There was no flourish of surprise, no tensing of muscles.  Not a hair raised nor an eyelash bat.  She simply turned toward his direction and gazed upon him with little to reveal her thoughts.  Such a calm in her demeanor caused his step to slow, though not halt entirely.  His head lifted, his ears perking with new interest.  It wasn't often he found himself cross another's path where his size didn't intimidate, let alone his general appearance.  If she held such fear, it did not show with her stoicism.

He wasn't made to be the first to speak, the females voice filling the silent night with melodic note.  His brow rose slightly at the words that were said, and without thinking, Zombie's nose lifted into the air, drinking in the scent that surrounded.  His inclination had been correct in thinking he'd been surrounded on all sides from various domains, but he hadn't thought he'd crossed directly into one of them.  Even now, as the scent of the female before him thickened the air, he could not sense what she spoke to be true.  Then again, it could be newly claimed territory, in which, he wouldn't know he'd stepped over the line.  Much more than that, was the simple fact... that he didn't care.

Lowering his gaze, his rose colored eyes finding hues of harvest orange, Zombie continued forward.  "Elkshire." He spoke, his voice dry, gravely from lack of speech.  The distance between them shortened with each slow step made, his eyes lingering upon her own.  She was unlike any other wolf he'd seen before, her pelt rich in browns, tinted with the red light of the moon.  She wasn't a small wolf by any means, but there was a difference in size between them.

When one more step would puncture the bubble of comfort, Zombie paused, slowly lowering to his haunches as he curled his tail around his flank.  It was out of his nature... to sit and chat with another... but every moment he thought to leave, her eyes would flash before his own.  "What would Elkshire ask for penance.  Blood...sweat... or tears?" There was no sarcasm in his tone, no humor to lighten his words.  Before, he might have scoffed and trudged onward, regardless of the polite warning that was given.  He'd never cared about boundaries before... so why did he now?  The answer was invisible to anyone but Zombie... and perhaps one meant to help him live while he grieved.

(Ooc: Ha!  No problem, love it ^_^)

He was like the shadows the elders warned about. The air that those who carried white held, sickly, ominous, something to scorn and chase away. He faced her robotically, without an emotion to give, almost a dead-inside wolf where she could very well assume his soul was already tainted by the way he held himself. Her disgust was hiding in the moment, the very first wolf she saw that was so pale like so, and held themselves. There was others of course, and she remembered the second-in-command in the Blackwoods, but instead of that ominous wear, he held aggression and question, to openly mock her so. She wanted him to perish not for the slight against the High Elk, but against her. But this man.. Felt different.

She sat and looked at him, crescent eyes and a cold smiling crawling to her lips. He was what the disgust of someone religious brought, the part of her that believed in the High Elk [mdsah] every instinct to said was to chase off.. But he asked, for what penance? Strange she so thought as turned with nothing more then a blankness and without scorn or mockery ; not something to be used to on a land that held little scent of Elkshire. She hummed lightly, "to leave or to serve."

She was well composed, her expression giving nothing, her unmoving posture revealing very little.  She held herself with a calm collect that he'd not seen in many, and for what little it might be worth, it intrigued him.  She spoke for Elkshire, but who was she to them?  In the end, it mattered little to Zombie.  She could have been their queen, or simply a scout, and regardless of rank, it was her demeanor that captivated his attention.  She spoke very little, but revealed much with the words that she selected.  In the end, she gave him a choice.  To either stay and serve, or to leave.

His eyes remained upon her for a moment, looking into the orange hue of her own.  The silence between them remained unbroken as time ticked on.  A subtle breeze washed her scent over him, the scent of her pack filling the air as he breathed in deeply.  It had been quite some time since he'd belonged anywhere... for he was a nomad through and through.  His ear ticked back at the faint sound of movement, a waking giant shifting in its sleep not far from where they sat.  Zombie's gaze finally pulled from the female's, his eyes wandering to the unknown horizon beyond.  He could feel the pull of loneliness that tugged on his heartstrings, knowing there was little more for him there than there was here.  He was broken, lost, and left for dead the moment she'd abandoned him.

Turning his eyes back toward the female, Zombie lifted himself onto his paws.  If he were to serve this creature... he would need to know more.  Perhaps in time he would... but in this moment, it was her temperament that needed testing.  Instead of turning his back and walking away, Zombie moved closer, one paw after another bringing him within breathing distance.  His gaze didn't once leave hers as he moved, and within his rose tinted eyes, it was clear he meant no threat.  When he pushed his proximity to as close as he dared, he held her gaze for a beat longer before lowering his head, ever so slightly.  "Then let me serve." He spoke evenly, his heavy heart lightening ever so slightly.

An unwavering gaze despite a surprise arising. Steadfast he approached, an unbreaking pink gaze returned as silence seemed to fall upon them and even the world around. Colors of monochrome approach, a wolf who slowly descended to what seemed to be a bow and motioned of a servitude, a first, Celnes would think. A brow was to be raised as her smile was a deepened moon-cresent, an amusement through her gleaming eyes, "a servant of Elkshire? Whose less then the ground we step upon?" a low laughter came through, almost a betting if this was true in the case — was a man who ventured too close to a territory truly coming forth just to serve?

A pelt of dislike, she remembered the time she had accepted a man of pure whites in the other realm. The chaos it brought, the way her family protested and the way it brought disaster upon them all — but that man was chosen as an equal.. She did not see this man as an equal. A silverfish, an insult that Deorwine gave to those who were not their own, someone who was lesser then a wolf itself. Was that the destiny he so wanted? A chain and shackle?

The offer was tempting, too tempting.

She laughed, and Zombie simply stared.  She didn't expect such a response... but then again, who would?  Why would he not just turn and walk away.  Even now, as she laid it bluntly all out for him to understand, why shouldn't he just leave the territory rather than offer servitude.  What wolf in his right mind would willingly pick the rank of an omega?  His past self would rather die than serve in such a lowly rank... but right now, in this very moment... he didn't move an inch.  He's been guided to this female, and encouraged to engage.  She could have fought him from the moment he appeared.  She could have been indifferent, turning her back on him to leave him to his own vices.  She might have found him a potential mate... though had that been true... he might not have listened to the soft encouragement in his head.  No, there was no telling why his path had led to this creature in this moment... but Zombie wasn't one to shy from the unknown.

Still... His eyes locked with hers, for as long as she dared to hold them.  "You sound as though you're trying to convince me against subservience." He said plainly, though his voice was soft.  He was curious... interested in what she might be thinking.  Perhaps that he was too willing to give his life so easily.  But why, she might be wondering.  Was he trying to deceive her?  Was he touched in the head?  Was he worthless and merely looking for scraps to be tossed aside, regardless of the abuse that might come with it?  Was he sick?

Zombie stepped closer, drawing himself ever closer.  He drew in her scent, his chest expanding with the deep pull of breath.  Close enough now that he could feel her aura, Zombie gazed deeply into her eyes.  "If you'd rather I leave... then say so."  It was a challenge, but a gentle one without a lick of dominant assertion.  He wanted to feel what she felt.  Hell... he wanted to feel anything.

"It's not everyday you get someone so willing, that it almost feels like a trick," she opened-maw'd laughed while looking down at the other. A tall, large man who had the body of a warrior was bowing to her ; a one where his colors were not likeable by any means and yet was so willing to be a servant under those who scorn those colors. She was amused, and she was pleased — an ego-stroker though hesitated was within full mind to do more. But in the back of her mind she thought of the anguish of dealing with her young and their plain disliking of so. Would they accept it? Even if he was a lower ranking that was the worms itself?

"Very well then," she bent down, like a whisper to his ear, "welcome to Elkshire, under the rank of Silverfish, an omega, a servant to the holy."Then just so, pulled away, with a light brush to his ears if the man stayed ever still. She was clearly very entertained by her widened smile, "what is your name?

Her laughter touched his ears similarly to that of a breeze passing over him.  His eyes closed briefly as he welcomed the sound, desperately searching for what it was that had drawn him so.  She seemed to be studying him, just as he was her... but neither were giving of the secret thoughts within.  Had he known just what he was accepting, perhaps he might have been forced to leave... to turn his back on that which compelled him to stay.  What little information was given to him, while sure to be a challenge, it did not express the weight of which lay before him.  Zombie was a patient beast however... and time would answer questions in which he had yet to even form.

When she leaned forward, bringing herself closer into his vicinity, Zombie's eyes shifted, gazing past her blood moon tinted fur into the darkness beyond.  He listened to her welcome, to the words of acceptance, to the rank that was bestowed upon him.  Even as the shackles locked tightly about his throat and wrists, within his heart it was as if a weight had finally been lifted.  Gone was the aimlessness that plagued him... the solitary nights that brought nightmares to haunt his dreams.  No more was he left to wander without hope or care.  At least now... he had a job to do.

Zombie's eyes closed briefly, a shudder running through him at the gentle graze of touch afforded.  His gaze lifted to meet hers as she pulled back and asked for his name.  Rising to his full height, his eyes locked with her own, he offered his name.  "Zombie Heart."  A name of conflicting nature... though unknown to true extent how deeply real it was fitting for the brute.

She wondered how the pack would react to him. A man drenched in grays and whites, the eyes like a light rose.. A servant to the Deorwine, whether some would take it or not, or even bend it to their desires. Images of those who roamed the crown but held more disgusted faces toward the Queen appeared, but none that she thought would openly speak out — that were around. To repeat the past.. For @Calhoun to rise again as his pre-successor and speak out, just as he did in Kingslend for her similar ways. Celnes doesn't change it seems.

"Come, we will find you living quarters." Away from the main den.

quite alright! we can probably fade her too!

And so it starts.  Zombie could feel the weight of the shackles around him, the chain looping and tightening around every limb.  It felt... secure.  He wasn't one to bow so easily, so readily... nor was he one to believe in fate or ghosts.  It didn't seem to matter the reasons for the life he'd chosen to live, past or present, and one thing that Zombie could hold on to that could never be stripped from him... was his determination and instinct to survive.  There have been times where he was worn down by this or that, where he lost his way and his temper... There were times where his hardheadedness nearly had him killed.  Perhaps those days were behind him, and perhaps they weren't.  He just knew that in this moment, he had no will to fight.  He was curious of this new pack and what they would do with him.  Call it a challenge, call it focus... call it his saving grace.  Once again, only time would tell.

When she turned, so too did he.  The blood moon was well on its descent, its red hues darkening with every passing minute.  Soon it would be gone for what may seem like an eternity... but then again... perhaps not as long as expected.

(Ooc: Fade here ^_^  Thank you very much!  Lovely thread and interesting development for him ^^)
