Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write, though the game also rewards high activity
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • Writing is collaborative, and so is our supportive community
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

AW to Nightwalkers!

Eldra moved silently within the Reach, prowling through the trees and weaving her scent into the mix of odors along the borders.
She always did so, and rather actively.
Despite her loner-like behavior as of most recent, she was always around and lurking in the shadows even if her fur didn't do her any favors in hiding among them, unlike most of the other Nightwalkers, who had much darker furs than she.

She paid the disadvantage no mind though, for she was a powerhouse in her own right and would protect the Nightwalkers' claim by force, necessary or not so much so.

Eyeing a lone deer some distance away, the Thug smiled to herself and began moving quieter, slowly...slowly...trying to get behind the ungulate where it could not see her so well.
The attempt was a far-reaching one without another Nightwalker to help, but she would try nevertheless.
Finally getting directly behind the deer, she eased herself closer, closer, closer...

Lowering herself towards the ground she continued creeping, and would eventually lunge for the right ankle of her quarry with fast teeth, snatching the frail part of its leg firmly and yanking backwards at the same time as the ungulate tried to lurch away to flee.

It was a very, very lucky catch, and Eldra knew this with certainty where she was alone in this particular hunt.
Jerking harshly again, the deer buckled in such a way that the ankle Eldra held snapped with a loud CRACK, making the deer cry out.

Eldra shook her head and continued tugging at the broken leg to further its injury, and moved quickly on top of the deer, jaws gnashing for the neck as the deer struggled against her.
She eventually was thrust off by the ungulate rolling, making Eldra roll a little and skid to her feet, lunging after the deer as it tried to make a getaway.
Fast and surefooted, Eldra rounded upon the front of her quarry and shot for the throat with widened jaws, snatching it upon the lower part of the windpipe and ripping the deer downward as she held on with bloodthirst and hunger in her purple gaze.

The deer eventually stopped struggling, likely suffocating, and Eldra made a quick, decisive move with her jaws for its jugular, where she tore into it and held the ungulate down with a massive paw, waiting for a moment as it bled out before she made a satisfactory snort, picked the deer up by the side of the neck and began hauling it further into the depths of the reach.

Some many minutes later, she dropped her kill beside her on the ground and let out a low call for any Nightwalker who was hungry to join her for the meal.
She would only begin to eat if nobody showed, or if others did show up...
Meanwhile, Eldra would guard the deer.
