Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Aries ventured to the Alpine Moors, to the fated full moon that came to the night. Unfortunately she had to delay their last meaning and the previous moon had not been met.. But she was determined this full moon to venture. The sun was just setting, and the snow-kissed woman hurried her way to the moors. On this day, although she thought to bring that of a cotton flower, it was unfortunate she could not find it. However that was this determination for the next event.

The sky darkened as the pale wolf scored across the tundra, darting so.. She just about entered the moors, but instead of the usual light that dulled so, it almost seemed a bit too dark. Her head raised to the sky, and Aries had to drop the forget-me-not flowers, staring at.. She couldn't decide whether it was beautiful or a horror at the same time — for the moon that hung up was red.

Gala's heart pounded in anticipation as she bounded towards the familiar moors, a small bundle of flowers carried within her maw. She decided to go with daisies for her meeting with Aries this time around. They were a simple pick, but they were her favorite.

When the moonlight from above began to dim, she stopped in her tracks. She craned her head upwards, and nearly dropped her flowers due to the sight before her.

The moon was dyed a bright, blood-red.

A chill began to snake up the woman's spine. As she stared up at the crimson orb, an unpleasant previous encounter came to mind. One of the reasons she hesitated to return to the abandoned castle alone.

"No one will protect you when the red moon hangs high."

She tried desperately to shake off the feeling of bugs crawling beneath her skin. It was all talk. Nothings' gonna hurt her. Everything would be fine, right?

After all, there were much more important things that she had to focus on right now. She continued to press on, and soon spotted Aries on the horizon. The lady seemed to be also captivated by the moon, the red light reflected in her yellow eyes. She came up next to her and set down her flowers.

"It's quite chilling, isn't it?" she mused. "I think it's beautiful in a way."

The moor really had become her favorite place to hunt. It just hit the right spot for the brindle. Albeit hunting wasn't going as well as usual today. It was like she had to left paws today. Instead of lamenting or cranking up the effort she decided it was best to wait out whatever funk she was in. This is why make a good work ethic so you can make better excuses to be lazy and via process; squeak by even more lazy actions than a normal useless drone.

With a lazy yawn she proceeded to lay down and snooze out in the open.

~~~
It was the voices of strangers that awoke them from slumber. She had apparently blended in well on the ground. It was only when one of the two stepped on her did she alert her presence. "I find this rather displeasing." She said blandly with the most emotionless voice one could imagine. She would rise up, sneezing from the flowers of the other two, looking to see a light silver and cream pair. She didn't recognize any of them, but the situation did little to cure her sleepy dull expression. A lazy smile etched itself onto her lips. "What? Ever seen a wolf rise from the dead?" She jested. Or perhaps...
Her eyes flicked up absentmindedly, but they immediately glued themselves back up as she witnessed the blood red eye. It made her blood run cold, a madness it resembled in uncanny fashion that hit too close to home. An eclipse if she remembered the dog scrolls correctly. She had never seen one like this. "Huh. Who put that there?" Was her nonchalant response and a shrug of the shoulders.
^^The moon wasn’t really a shade of red; it looked more like a deep burnt orange, to him. Not quite the color of spilled blood, which was okay. He gathered that such a sight might look… well, less beautiful.
He liked to look up at the stars, at night, finding different paths amongst the sky. He was a young, growing boy, curious of the little world around the pack and it’s claimed territory, and any distance away from Kuhn was a good one, even if the dark, bossy babe thought otherwise. Hmph.
Sure, this might not be the land he’d come from, clearly… as tigers were now the minority, but Arcane still had his suspicions. For now, those would be put on hold as he followed the moon. It brought him to a lovely field of flowers, and Arcane gave pause; he was not alone.
The walking canvas (aries) was here, as well as two other wolves that he had never seen before. Oh! Was this a secret meeting he had discovered? Two white females, and a half white female who looked… interesting. He’d never seen a half-white wolf before!
She had something in her mouth, flowers, it looked like, and Arcane slowly came up to them, making a chuffing sound in his throat to alert them to his presence as he lingered near Aries, uncertain of them, and she was the only face he knew.
The other had such vibrant green eyes, he wondered if they might had been gemstones. He had trouble looking away from her.
His attention soon turned to the sky, again; the real reason they had all gathered, as if to receive a secret message from the great beyond. He couldn’t decide what was more beautiful, the green eye’d babe, the flowers, or the moon.
"It's.. Hard to describe, but in a way it is beautiful." There was a clear hesitation on her face as she looked at it in concern, beautiful as it was.. In many cultures the sign of a red moon was ominous, a dread to come — but it was also the indication that change was to come. Aries wasn't too heavily religious, but even she had thoughts and concerns, and felt this was connected to what was brewing within the north. Carefully she sat on her hunches, a deep breath given as she wondered whether.. Whether this meant something was to change, but would it bring the good, or the bad? She thought of the war.. The war that hung overhead to many — and then she turned to see more.
The alpine moors was rather active today, there was Arcane ; a young tiger who seemed to have come too. The scent of Duskguard upon his pelt, and she turned to flash Gala a re-assuring gaze that though fearful as a beast was, no harm would be given.. At least so she thought ; even the moon could indicate on this day something was to happen at this very spot. A gaze was drawn back to the redness of it.. And to another stranger altogether!
"Maybe it's destiny we are all here to witness it."
Good or bad, but she still felt wary.
Gala nodded in agreement. She vaguely remembered that there was a reason for the moon to change in such a way, but she couldn't remember it. Something about the Earth's shadow or something? She'd worry about that some other time.
She soon began to realize that the two of them weren't alone. A white and brown she-wolf rose up from her resting place within the flowers, nearly catching her by surprise. Was she there this whole time? "Oh hello there! Sorry, I didn't see you." she chuckled.
But that wasn't the most shocking thing. Not moments after, she saw a brown tiger slinking through the moors. Her eyes widened, as she had never before encountered one during all of her time here. Though, she quickly relaxed seeing that he was familiar with Aries and didn't seem intent on attacking any of them. He too was transfixed by the red moon.
"Destiny, huh? Maybe you're right..."
Sasha huffed at the orange creamed popsicle wolf who had stepped on her. But she was quickly over it as her attention focused upon ANOTHER FUCKING TIGER. They were everywhere. Really, what the hell. She groaned as she rubbed her muzzle. Maybe she was still dreaming for she had quite the odd crowd. The scents of some of the guest here were familiar. Reminding her of the snowball chick and her pet tiger that visited the borders. Her train of thought would be soon interrupted as the silver wolf spoke.
Sasha inwardly scoffed. She was a woman of science, she did not believe in legends and gods. Still...she believed that the world showed meticulous signs that were worthy to study. Now what could this mean? Sasha held her tongue and tried to say something to not bash at the spirituality of the others here. "Does it matter? We'll all be dead one way or another. Why bother with such trivial thoughts." She said and then blinked after she said that. Fuck, that was not what she had been trying to convey. A downer as always, she tried to save it.
"Sorry, um y'know....I'm a bit under the weather." She apologized to them before feeling...something? She turned her head and soon found the answer. The tiger was staring at her. She was secretly trying to will it to just kill her now and get her out of this awkward situation. Instead she tilted her head in a somewhat cute manner despite the deadpan expression she always wore. "Something on my face, Kitty?" She asked while noting how interesting his fur was. He reminded her of cinnamon.
