Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

When she woke this morning, she yawned wide and stretched out her little toes, and flexed her large paws, content to curl into the warmth of her sister's monochrome pelt, and far more at ease with dozing a little longer.

As it goes, though, her slumber would be disturbed by a creature unlike any she'd seen so close... a vole. A patchwork pelt of blacks and sunlight quirked her head up, brows raised and mouth curving an 'o' of delighted disturbance. It could be a meal. "Mia," she nudged her sister with her forepaws then nipped once at her ear, tugging it to draw attention from sleep. "Wake up, c'mon, there's food." The lemming didn't flinch, perhaps unbothered by what it thought were defenseless children, and nibbled at something on the ground. "Hurry... it might leave."

It did. Unfortunately, before either could gather their bearings, it made a break for it.

Euphemia was having a great dream. It could be said the typical sunshine and rainbows, but there was a twist! A prince charming within her dreams who looked — rainbow. He was every color that a rainbow looked to be, a rather ugly version if had to put on paper, but for the child at the moment she saw him as the most beautiful thing that there was. A large wedding to all that can see where her dad, normally stoic and kind, was crying in rejoice as her mother looked proudly at her.. She of course had all her sisters besides herself, and there was a few other figures that unfortunately could not remember.

The dream faded to black as she was nudged, her eyes opening slowly while "mm," complaining at the nudging of her sissy. She was in the comfort of pure warmth and the other tore away, there was some talk of.. Something, but Euphemia wanted to return to her prince charming land. She didn't actually get up until Tiberii said something about leaving, so with an annoyance whipped her head up and rubbed her eyes.. Only to see a vole run out of the den.

She blinked for a moment to get her barrings, looking at her rambunctious tomboy sister, and back at the entrance it came from, "ah!" so she screamed, maybe even awakening the rest of her siblings — mattered now, "lessgo!" so Euphemia said as she was finally awake and simply.. Bolted out of the den. Nothing about what she was doing was a true hunt, she wasn't even stalking properly or was trying to catch it's trail for a perfect precision. Instead she saw it within her sights, and was leaping after it with her mighty legs.

It took what felt like forever to stir her sister, slumber clinging to her more than it did to Tiberii it felt like, but as soon as the lemming made its dash, Euphemia rose in a blur and scrambled after it in what she would say was a pristine form, and loyally the darkling burst up and after, dust of the den kicked around as she chased after with high-pitched, eager barks of intimidation.

Neither girl was a hunter, nor had they done much proper hunting with the guidance of an adult, but this was instinct—unrefined, raw, utterly insatiable, and absolutely giddy. "Get 'im by tha tail!" hollered Tiberii, a bark-ish laugh to her words and her paws continually trying to trip her and her mass lent itself to momentum and sent her madly barreling behind her sister.

Of course, the vole itself was quick, smart, zig-zagging and racing, snuffling along the snow for somewhere to go.

"We're gon' get ya'!" she barked it this time, a threat! Tiberii thought she sound rather tough.

She was grinning and barking, chasing the vole without any thoughts to try and really sneak upon or even catch off guard. The two were side by side while chasing, she would flash Tiberii a grand grin while continuing the chase and also bark alongside. If they really thought of it, the two could have one cut off the vole ; but instead full-on chased. Sometimes Euphemia thought she was just close enough to snap at it's tail, but was always a hair away from her teeth truly to grab onto.

And then she tripped.

There were heartbreaking, earth-shattering tragedies written for the express purpose of woe and tearful reactions that were nowhere as sad as the moments that ensued.

The sisters were in a world of their own dawnbreak creation, encompassed in the glittery aftermath of kicked-up snow and rising sunlight, Euphemia rode the vole's heels, snapping and nearly catching it again and again until, at once, the other tripped—

—Tiberii tried to stop herself, to slow, but all this did was throw more snow into the sky and behaved as the beginning of the end when her paws clipped her sister's spine and she went flying over the other with a squeak and holler before, finally, crashing face-first into the snow.

There was a yipp feeling the crashing upon her back, the snow flipping about the the collisional of bodies that then slide. By the point the mouse was long gone as the two were colliding with the ground itself and feel the snap of her spine ; it made her freeze just for a moment before slouching onto the ground with a groan. When she looked up she saw her sister also, falling flat-face into the snow..

"It got away."
