Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The land was relatively quiet today, as the snow gently fell to the forest floor. Autumn was well within it's wake, but already winter was at it's grace. The tundra wholly welcomed so as it did often, but she knew soon the blizzards would be stronger then it was elsewhere. A ferocious place to live even without the season, but now coming full-force was a day to prepare. Gentleness fell though, where it welcomed the snow-kissed maiden to the gentle seasoning of winter itself. She looked up, smiling and humming her way through.

"Nuku, nuku nurmilintu,
Väsy, väsy, västäräkki.
Nuku nurmelle hyvälle,
Vaivu maalle valkialle."

Her voice sang through, an upmost of serenity hitting Aries as she strolled through. A pinnacle of peace that she wished for centuries to continue, but turmoil always remained in it's shadows, and even stirred her heart. She sung to appease her own drum, and to feel the day to it's fullest.

With wide steps the young wolf made both to keep herself steady on such large, disproportionate paws and thick, sturdy limbs she had to learn to navigate with all over again and to make it appear as though a much larger wolf was patrolling the boundary of Duskguard's territory, Tiberii tried to behave as she'd seen Father with his scarred mug and large, perpetually furrowed brows that made him look like the last creature any foolish danger would want to meet. This meant that when she heard the strange hum of words she didn't quite understand, she lowered her body and knitted up her expression, and moved forward with the intent to bare her teeth at the creature lingering on her grounds!

She curled her muzzle seriously—real seriously—before charging on, a small force to be reckoned with and could not be slowed even after she realized the mistake. This was no creature. This was Aries. Oh.

At least, Tiberii thought as she lost balance and began to roll like a boulder down the mountainside, and crashed firmly into the woman's hind leg with a despondent gruoah, Aries would not be mad with this.

Aries knew a few languages, but her tongue was the strongest when it came to Finnish. She was fortunate enough to take English was an interest and share the same with @Wren, as it was important to know to interact with the trades of Winterglade and more. A language of use, but naturally her tongue often fell elsewhere, where even the motherland that they were born in, was something else altogether. She knew of French and it's origins, a delightful language that sounded pleasant to the ears, and was important to their mother to know alongside that of English. It was her assurance that they learned it from the Winterglade wolves, almost insisting — mother never really shared her origins.. But it was safe to say Aries knew she was English woman, for she spoke it very well.

But naturally most was known within the love of the Finnish, including the song that she would never finish on this day. Duskguard had a variety of children, particulary four by the two rulers of the vale. A lovely amount of cubs, and they looked of perfect blends from them.. Though there was one that was a short mimicry of Tiberius, and even shared similar enthusiasm. She came bundling over, rolling and directly into the leg of herself, where she looked down to see little Tiberii directly hit her.

"Oh my, are you okay sweetie?"

Luckily for Tiberii, wolves were not boulders and Miss Aries was not very Father-like in that when she collided, there was no hard muscle to bounce back off of though she did spit and writhe to her belly because any sort of momentum-thrust impact was still bound to hurt. Her limbs unfurled as she shoved herself to her paws, spitting again, and moving in that distinct manner that only came from a child refusing to admit to themself they were still dizzy. "M'okay," she muttered, stumbling a little then righting herself only to smack right into Aries' other leg and, with no confession of defeat, plopped down onto her rear and sneezed. "M'just resting, s'all."

This, of course, wasn't a lie. "I heard somethin' out 'ere," she said, finally blinking up at Miss Aries owlishly. "Sounded... weird, ya' hear it, too? Sounded... like..." And Tiberii proceeded to even worse than butcher the very tail end of the song Miss Aries had been cooing around with, not intentionally, but a child's naivety often made these things simply far from cruel-spirited as it did uneducated.

Like daughter like father, although one could chalk it up to baby-babble, Aries thought lightly her voice was twinging to the sound of Tiberius's unusual accent. None came to mind what he could be inkling to, and she had not heard him speak another tongue whatsoever. Was it rude to ask? Did she ask? But Tiberii was a mimic to him in most every way, shy of a few shades of silver the dabbled, and now it seemed but a minor tone of talk was growing similar to him.. Was he also like this when he was younger?

"Oh sweetie, that was.." was Aries hurt? Maybe a little, "that was singing, a bit, but in my known-tongue." Was it strange to their ears? Aries had hummed before to the young within the den, sometimes sweet whispers in the tongue normally spoken ; but when alone she naturally fell to what was most comfortable. She repeated it within a same melody, but was perhaps in a way she could understand better.

"Sleep, sleep meadow bird,
Tired, tired, wagtail.
Sleep well in the grass,
Drift into the white land."

-Welcome to Aurelia hell.-

Where in the world had she gone?

Aurelia needed her, and Tiberii had just wandered off to nowhere! They were supposed to go bird-watching today (in the eventual hopes of learning their ways enough to catch one), but when Aurelia had woken, somehow, her sister had already disappeared. It was totally unlike her! If she had known how to curse yet, the ashen pup would have been swearing up a muttered storm; instead she simply puffed out her cheeks and marched through the snow, uncaring of the innocent white flakes that collected upon her downy brow.

There would be hell to pay. No one messed with her schedule.

High and low she searched, striding up to the river, the forest, even toward the edges of the mountains that shielded their territory like sentinels - but still.

Nothing.

“TIBERIIIIIII!” she shouted to the sky, sending birds fluttering to the four winds.

Ah, darn it. Now they wouldn't have anything to watch.

“TIBERIIIIIII-” Aurelia cut herself off mid-summons, cocking an ear toward the distance. There was a scuffle - then voices. Hmph.

With a fearsome look in her eye, she walked firmly, pointedly toward its source, leaving angry little puppy paw-prints in the freshly fallen snow behind her.

There they were. Tiberii had decided to play hooky and go hang out with Aries and - was that singing? What was she doing, taking lessons?

Absolutely not!

“Tiberii!” she yipped impatiently, announcing her presence as she stood imperiously between two large trees. The girl looked like a displeased monarch, hands on her hips if she'd been able to, crown tilted to the side. “Did you forget? We were s'posed to watch birds this morning!”
