Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

A entire world awaited the young creature. Rip and fresh for exploring and adventuring, new tastes, smells, sights to unveil. Of course, most of it scared the hell out of him. This whole place was still a mystery to him. How he got here was beyond him, and yet, here he was. Pantalaimon had been close with his friends and family before the fall, so being alone — well, with none of the same species, was new to him. But it was intriguing. They could communicate. The same as he'd done with his hero, @Mauve. It was new and exciting — though he knew to be careful, as much as he wanted to believe all of them were like his golden browned angel, he knew they were also predators, and he was a whole snack.

Nonetheless, morning came and his little belly rumbled with a righteous hunger that shook him awake. "Mahhh ~" The pine marten's mouth opened wide with an enormous yawn before smacking his lips together, shifting out of the tall grasses and stretching his tiny legs. "Boy, oh boy." He muttered, curling his little toes before taking a step out, making sure that no hawks would harass him like they had before.

Panta's nose twitched, already onto something that smelt a lot like... Berries! And with that, the man hustled in a jog, following his nose to that sweet, sweet treat.

The man was exploring when he heard a voice, curiosity getting the better of him. He had been expecting a wolf but instead, he saw a.. rodent... thing? He wasn't sure what it was, but as far as he was concerned, it was a meal. Though he figured he could have fun with this.

And so, he would walk closer, aiming to stand over the creature if they didn't run, a malicious grin on his face. "A rat that can talk, interesting. That's something you don't see every day."

The little creature hummed his own little tune, his hips swaying from side to side as he followed his nose. His nose would tilt into the air, take a few deep sniffs, before heading the way that smelt the sweetest.

It had been a few more steps before he realized something. A new scent mixed with the tanginess of the berries... Something like... wet dog? Oh shit. Before he could scurry to some underbrush, a shadow cast over him, like the oncoming of a storm. As much as he tried not to quiver, his short legs still shook, but he tried to remain as calm as he could. The hawk might have scared him -- and this man might scare him, but he wasn't going to wimp out and run. He was going to learn how to stand his ground.

'A rat that can talk. Interesting.' Scooting somewhat backwards so Pantalaimon could look up without craning his neck. The side of his mouth twitched and he squinted, "I'm not a rat. I'm a pine marten. And, I know, surprising huh? I've only just learned about talking wolves." He spoke, his voice slow at first, as if he were explaining something to a child. And then, a little cheerful as he chattered on. Of course, there was still the lingering sense of dread, but he couldn't tell whether that was his instincts or if there was just really something off about the wolf.
