Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Wanna get a few more threads with him technically in Haldis before he boogies. Perhaps @Sorina ? Otherise, anyone from Haldis is Welcome!!

Finally he had come back, carcass in his jaws. An offering of goodwill as long as a show of his strength. He enjoyed the killing of large beasts, and the act of hunting them. Yet his stomach never had enough room. He was happy to have a group to bring it home to.
Erebus' paws ached slightly from the dragging of the ungulate. Having torn off the horns so they would no longer rake into the ground and work against him.

He gave a brief howl once in earshot of everyone's dens and chosen resting spots. Hoping someone would come out and either help him drag it the rest of the way or begin to eat it where it lie. Either way would be helpful.

A rare appearance from Eldritch LMAO

The Seer was awake, as usual, when the call of their newest came.
She had noted the man's constant departures, and would return like clockwork for one and one only - Sorina.

Eldritch felt no jealousy, but she did feel anger that this man had no interest in building connections with the rest of Haldis.
She would talk to Sorina later.

For now, the Witch would prowl, silent as a ghost, and stand far back into the shadows of the trees to watch Erebus with the ungulate.

She felt for once in her life - a hope that his skin would prickle with unease at the feeling of being watched like he was prey.
Her bone-silver irises certainly held him in their scope as such.

The saving grace of Haldis was it's population of dark wolves. And all dark wolves tended to be good at one thing, stalking and hunting. They were the best at it, in fact. Like formless shadows with floating eyes, teeth from bushes where it seemed no beast could hide. Erebus was one of those wolves, and understood the obsession with the trade.
So, when he caught one such Haldis owned dark wolf, doing as they do best, he simply rolled his eyes playfully.
"Do you want it, or not?" He was half serious, a chuckle still resonated from the deepest recesses of his black chest. The man was considering just burying the carcass in the snow right here, so if anyone was interested they could just come and get it. Not his responsibility to make sure everyone ate.

Eldritch stared at Erebus as he looked at her, seemingly fearless.
His playful roll of the eyes and talk, it almost made the Seer want to let things slide, but in her heart of hearts, she felt he was malevolent in some way.

She was silent still, as she moved without noise toward him with unblinking, silvery eyes.
Though she could not stare into his soul to see who he really was, as any fantasy magician may, she could look the part rather convincingly, and did so now with intention.

Even as light highlighted vanta-black fur while the Witch came from the depths of the shadows, she was the epitome of ethereal, though in the sense of eldritch, Lovecraftian horrors and nightmares and dark magicks, not nearly so much so as Sorina was - ethereal in the ways of royalty, poise, and elegance.
Two sides of the same ebony coin, perhaps.

She stood before Erebus with the aura of something...best described as - Other.
Though she was mortal flesh and blood in truth, it did not mean she couldn't be seen as something else by other superstitious bodies.

He smiled in a brotherly way, slightly confused as well as touched. A strange expression to place.
"Yes yes, very spooky." He threw his paw about, metaphorically and almost physically shaking off her air.
"It's a perfectly normal deer, if that's what you're worried about." Finally his eyes took off her and he dropped the carcass where he stood. Sniffing it over one last time to see if he had any room left but, instead sat nearby it. Orange gaze flickering at the deer one last time before looking back at this stranger.

He could smell Haldis on her, and most of the Haldis wolves were smart enough not to come at him sideways- give or take few. So he showed no chance of being intimidated or creeped out, at least not in the way she was coming on.
Erebus thought about discontinuing his staring but, being as the dark colored woman was being odd, he figured it a tad safer.

Content Warning
This post contains content that may be unsettling to some readers, including:
  • Mild Gore
Eldritch snorted sharply as the man waved off the vibe she was intentionally giving.

Dismissive, this one.
How boring.

Saying nothing still, the Seer came closer to Erebus and his kill, stopping roughly two feet away before her white gaze finally moved to the deer.

Creeping closer, the Witch would eventually start slicing into the corpse with her teeth, delicately opening the ungulate from chest to bladder.
Some of the insides started sliding out onto the snow freely then around Eldritch's paws as she began eating at the most tender pieces within the gore.

Her gaze would glance to Erebus to see if he would do anything,or say anything that might interest her enough to give more than a half-assed greeting.

He wondered why she didn't just take the point of entry that he had already made, mostly around the neck area- but, whatever. He didn't care.
His eyes lingered upon her for a moment, looking her over with a calm and rather disinterested eye. He appreciated the black coat, and appreciated more that Sorina kept them in her empire.
He ought to interrogate her about her beliefs, there was that one red and white bitch that hung around here. She was the only one, though, so perhaps Sorina was just merciful. Most women were, they found it hard to sometimes dish out the proper punishment to the sun children.

Perhaps he could convince the Lady Paramount to be a little harsher.

Finally his silent thinking and staring was put to an end, when he finally got fed up with the strange woman's silence.
"So why are you so weird? You mute or something?"

Eldritch mused quietly as Erebus stared and eventually asked his questions.

As smart as he may think he was, at the end of the day he was an idiot. She felt this and yet was patient.

"I am a Seer." She responded in her usual calm tones.
She saw no reason to hide her chosen profession from him.
At the end of the day his opinion on her affairs didn't matter.

He snorted.
"That doesn't really answer my question, though."
The man shrugged, rolling dark fur over his shoulders.
"I met another self-proclaimed seer the other day. She was quite talkative and fun." He smirked with a 'gotcha' look, curious of her response.

It was true, the Nikita girl he had encountered. When he found her, she was laughing and at play. Much different from this woman's silence and attempts at intimidation via staring.

Eldritch was not surprised or even phased at all by his words.
She hmmed absently and licked the blood from her lips.
"No Seer is the same as another." She responded, "We are all unique in some way. Albeit the same in others." Eldritch mused and stood up, shaking out her furs.
"Different beliefs, different upbringings, different experiences, and so on...these all play a part in who we are, how we shape ourselves." She continued musing.
Why was she so weird, indeed.

She didn't think he would accept any answer she gave him, so in the end, she gave him half-assed to none.
Eldritch swayed her tail once, dismissively.

"Thanks for the meal." She would say over her bony, jagged shoulders as she began to trot back into the depths of the woods.
Her den, preferably, unless this arrogant bastard decided to get in her way.

Seemed like a poor excuse for being weird.
The man shrugged, dismissing her behavior. It didn't pose any sort of threat so, he didn't much care if she wished to be weird.

He smiled at her thank you, though, and nodded.
"Anytime." Erebus spoke haphazardly, not really meaning it. She was just around and he had a full belly, nothing more. He wouldn't go out of his way for her, he didn't think.

The man watched disinterested as she trotted away, the smile on his face quickly fading and an annoyed expression taking it's place.

Eldritch knew he didn't mean it.
He didn't seem the type to mean things if it didn't benefit him.

She would not look back at him as her long, nimble legs carried her back into the darkness.
Truthfully she would not go out of her way for him, either.

But she would speak to Sorina about him.
She knew the Queen had her reasons for keeping him around, but she wanted to know why.
