Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Piper trots through the flowers, humming lightly to herself. She's casually wandering, her grey eyes scanning the hillside for anyone interesting. A lazy, relaxed smile crosses her features.

Suddenly, Piper spots a butterfly in the distance. A butterfly! This warrants immediate action. Bursting into a sprint, Piper chases the butterfly, her black paws kicking up petals and grass as she practically flies across the meadow. That's what it feels like, anyway.

Completely focused on the butterfly, Piper isn't paying much attention to her surroundings.

He leaves the Watering Hole behind today. No big deal, but just wander and see new places. Really, had no formal plan. He wasn't a planning guy anyway. Whatever happened, happened. Beyond his control or toyed with by him; the young man didn't really give a shit in the end. He was just chilling until he passed on from this world. Grim, but true.

Nobody, thankfully, tried to recruit his sorry ass. Maybe they assumed he was useless — he wasn't — or too lacking in loyalty. Really, what was it like to bow to someone? Their ideals? Just for a place to sleep, get up, and follow along to some big shots ideas? If he didn't agree with them, he'd leave in the end anyway. People assumed that was fickle. But he was playing the field.

Like, this little lady was. Well. In the field. He thought he was funny.

"Oi, watch out" he cawed as he side-stepped. She wasn't paying attention, but it was fine. He just got out of the way when she raced by, following some butterfly. He assumed it was too cold for them, but here one was. Maybe it was a sign. Maybe... Nah, he didn't really follow the whole ecology vibe.

Hearing the accented voice, Piper skids to an abrupt halt, dirt flying up in a cloud around her. Blinking rapidly to clear the dirt from her eyes, Piper beams at the stranger, her lively eyes scrunching up. The yearling's fur is wild, tangled with sticks and leaves and potentially a beetle or two. She smells like the woods, like a wild thing, but she looks positively THRILLED to see another wolf.

She IS thrilled! Maybe they can be best friends! And maybe he'll aid her grand quest to find Dipper! Nah, she's getting ahead of herself. She has to make him her best friend first!

"HELLO!" Piper shrieks, her high voice carrying across the whole meadow. A nearby flock of birds takes flight at the sound. "I'M PIPER WHAT'S YOUR NAME?" the sentence is all screeched out in one breath, the words crowding together. Her tone is one hundred percent positively excited.

Good gods.

That was...

That was just annoying.

He'd just walk away if she kept that up. Nobody had time for being screeched at, certainly not him. He didn't give a shit if she was a yearling or not. Her awkward stage would just keep getting awkward if she wasn't told about it. He pinned his ears, squinted his eyes, and shook his head as if a buzzing insect was circling his head. "You don't have to shout, luv" Killian was tempted to reach out and pap the girl on the muzzle with a paw — but resisted "I'm right here."

Forget awkward; the girl would be attacked if she started shrieking near a hostile scent line or even an easily annoyed wolf. Someone had to gently and carefully navigate this — and hell, it wouldn't be him. It wasn't his responsibility. He'd never see her again out of this small and insignificant encounter. But he would probably be tempted to smack her upside the head again if she did it in another meeting. He was almost embarrassed by her poor social skills. "Name's Killian." He shook his head one final time.

His ears finally stopped ringing. And to be frank, he didn't know what else to say to her. She was too young for his taste, and she didn't offer anything else in terms of socializing. He didn't like to hang around kids much. He had paid his debt to society as a yearling. Let him be around the big guns now. Mauve had been different. That girl was sharp. To Killian, first impressions were everything. This little lady was already plummeting. Hard.
