Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

He hadn't been doing much since he arrived here. Really, it was embarrassing. He walked around in a daze almost, flickering through this life on a total whim. Today, this evening, he would arrive in the Plains. He couldn't keep in Temperate all the time even if his only real companion was there. He hadn't seen @Mauve in a bit, actually. He wondered if she was okay...

Shaking the thought from his mind, he drank from the offered bounty of the water. This here was a new place, some sort of grassy hill that stretched on forever. He was used to mountain spires and dreary weather, almost humid. Here, it was cold and somewhat awkward. He had to watch himself and the world around him. Especially prey — they were a bit skittish here!

The deer ran away when he tried to stalk them. The rabbits went to ground easier. Strange. Even if he couldn't pick up many pack scents, Killian assumed there was a bundle of activity here. Movement caught his eye and he looked up, spotting the other being. He wagged his tail in greeting. Boy, when did he turn into a hermit?

The archer strayed some bits away from the mountains and into lower grounding -- he was still out of practice hunting within the mountains, being much more accustomed to seeking prey within flat elevation. His eyes scanned the land he wandered and surely enough, Kaster was confident enough that he'd be able to snag a rabbit or two if he wandered further enough. He might even send Pheobe skyward to be his feild veiw if he was feeling particularly active, but as of now his legs begged him to rest from the miles long journey.

With his hen on his shoulders and his eyes in a lazed, relaxed daze, the prince sauntered up to the opening of a watering hole and sought the opportunity to rest here until his energy came back to him. Panting, he'd lie near the shore and lower his head to take in a drink. It didn't occur to him that another was within the premises as well, since his attention wasn't as sharp as it usually was right now...

The other didn't see him, which was fine. He supposed he wasn't making himself known in a traditional sense. Killian often barked and yapped, chuffing a response or a greeting. This time, he suspected he was too subtle. "Hey, mate" he cleared his throat, eyeing the hen with interest. Not a predatory interest though "does your buddy do anything else but sit and look pretty? 'Course, when you're that pretty, you can without fuss." Well, he did that too. But.

It was quite clear Killian was curious. He sat his rump on the ground, tilting his head. "Heard of wolves who bond with birds, is all" he continued, raising a back leg to scratch the back of his ear a few times "you're the first I've seen in person though" He admits with a shrug. Quite an oddity here. "they hunt and scout for their companion, and the wolf protects them in turn. A partnership. Yep." He opened an easy way for conversation. Some wolves couldn't talk any shit without someone giving them a topic.

Also valid, but he felt it was taxing at times. Scrounging for conversation. "Ah, sorry" he wasn't "didn't really think if you both wanted to be alone." Killian knew what he was doing. He was bored and lonely, so he looked for socializing.

There – now he noticed the other wolf; exactly after they'd greet him in one of the strangest accents he's probably ever heard. It didn't exactly mean that Kast had to pay them any attention though, and decided to follow through with that notion by drinking his water and ignoring him until he went away….that proved to be the problem though, because he just kept talking.

–and talking and talking and talking. On and on about how fascinated he was with seeing a goddamn bird attached to his hip. The woodlander felt like his head was going to explode. In the moment where he decided he'd finally had enough though, he'd suck his tongue back in his mouth and close his eyes with a long inhale, a muzzle wrinkling in near disgust.

“Shut.”
“the fuck.”
up.
