Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

knock knock friendly visit! open to any in labyrinthian!

As she returned from the grove, Celnes made a light stop to the allied pack. She had visited Reclaimed Roots a few times, they were relatively close to The Elk's Crown after all. Just across the river, and through a small plains would she find their pack, and the musk that came. She never visited those who were allies often, she thought.. Was that rude of her? She did not think there was much use of leaders visiting each other unless it was by coincidence or to talk of politics ; and otherwise a messenger. But ah, she was in the area..

Might as well.

Polite and regal as she was, the Queen stood directly on their border ; not stepping closer and knowing of the limits. She could see the overgrown trees, the slight way of unnatural terrain that grew moss and other flora over time. Pillars and so, with chickens lightly heard in the distance. A slick smile as on her face with a raise head, a light howl signaling out.. Nothing urgent, but that a visitor was here.

The man had been resting when he heard the call, making him sigh and roll his eyes. What was it with wolves knocking at their borders? With an annoyed groan, he would shake himself off and begin the journey towards the sound, sniffing the air as he caught the scent of Elkshire. Interesting. He had just spoken to his brother about the rather boring pack, perhaps this interaction could change his mind.

Walking closer, the monochrome man would tense himself slightly, though noting that they weren't stupid enough to cross the border. Well, that was a bit dissapointing, he was hoping he'd have cause to attack one of them. Nonetheless, he would walk out, gold eyes narrowing in distrust. "Can I help you Elkshire?" He didn't need to be as rude as he was, but @Madmortigan wasn't here yet to be the calm leader, so it left Mel to be the distrustful bodyguard.

As evening fell upon the woods, Lúthien emerged. She was always most active at dusk and dawn, in the quiet hours when her common prey were on the move. She prepared to hunt as the sun set, though the call of a wolf from the forest's outskirts was enough to distract her.

She took to the canopy, soaring just beneath the lower branches and searching for the creature who'd summoned an audience. Lúthien's sharp gaze found her swiftly: a fine creature, with a rich earthen coat and wildfire eyes. The barn owl settled herself on a perch above and observed the approach of another, one of the several monochrome wolves who'd made their home within the Reclaimed Roots. She listened intently, noting the bluntness of his tone, then focused on the newcomer in anticipation of her response.

"Hello there," she smiled despite such a rather rugged greeting, "I am Celnes Deorwine.. Only for a visit as neighbors as I was in the area." She knew better then to assume relations with another, especially since so many within Elkshire looked absolutely related, and many were. But he looked quite familiar to the leader, the same black and white that felt the same, although his eyes betrayed such relations being a vivid yellow that reminded her of her son.

An eye saw the fluttering of an owl, but thought nothing of it. Owls were not unfamiliar, especially to Elkshire — although to say they were more hunted would be accurate. She wondered whether there was some native within their own lands, remembering the classic.. Chickens, that fluttered through the entrances.

Oh how we hated leaders and the game of politics. It was all so stupid to him. Alliances, deceit, it all could be to taxing on him. So, hearing his words, he would cock his head to the side, nodding slightly. "Well hello there. My brother, @Madmortigan isn't here at the moment, so I'm not going to let you just wander about. Though, you are free to stay at the border and look across, or you can ask whatever questions you have to me." He wasn't offering to take her across the border, though he had thought about it. He wasn't worried that she could overpower him, he was confident in his abilities, but more so, he didn't feel like babysitting.
