Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

If she was a healer, she might have stopped to admire the wildflowers. She might have even gathered them to take back to Elysium, but Tallulah was no medic-minded woman. She approached the water's edge instead, staring at the depths. Too far away from the pack that gave her asylum, she knew that by the time she reached the border the fish would spoil. This was purely selfish; to further her own survival.

The woman liked to fish when possible. It wasn't her favorite way of hunting, but she could do it well enough. The cool breeze of autumn felt nice, ruffling her fur, despite the rain. It would at least hide her scent from the fish and other prey. Leaning over, she let the dark clouds obscure her features from above. Once a fat little fish came along, she darted a paw into the depths. She scooped it out with a splash! Stunned as it hit the ground, she dove and killed it quickly.

Unaware someone else may be around, she went back to the water and continued to fish a second time.

Paws beat like tiny drums as she made her way through the woods. Winds and breeze at her back, carrying her as though she float. No paw staying on the ground for longer than half a second.
Speed possessed her, though at the sacrifice of spatial and sensual awareness.

So when a figure in the short distance, one who snuck past her distracted nose, took shape within the clearing surrounding the river, Riku put her paws out and skid to a stop.
She was sure he presence must be known, her blind searching wasn't meant to be sneaky or quiet.

Riku stopped to observe, charmed by the stranger's success at catching a plump river fish. She smiled and dipped her head, a welcome shift from an otherwise blank and placid face. The smirk not lingering, and quickly turning back to stoicism as soon as greeting pleasantries had passed.

The fish would rot before she got back to Fate's Respite, but that was okay. She was hungry and would not waste them. Perhaps another wolf would come along, and Tallulah could share her spoils? The stink of the fish was obscuring her natural senses, and she bent down to hook another before straightening. She would use the same technique as before.

Hiding her shadow from the fish, even if it was cloudy, was second nature for the hunter. She tried not to do it but felt herself peek over the edge of the water instead of fully placing herself over the waves. Another paw flashed out and she caught the fish mid-air in her jaws. A soft crunch and it was dead. Tallulah happened to look around at the moment, seeing another wolf.

Her lips curled around the slimy prey before she bent down, placing it by the other. "Howdy," She didn't see them standing there, but she did see a ghost of a smile from them "if ya want, ya can join me?" She gestured to the small pile "plenty to go around."

There was that weird language again. Riku's faced seemed to contort in a defeated kind of confusion. After all her running into of wolves who could speak Japanese, it was an unwelcome change when she of course met the, what seemed like, native speakers.

Yet they seemed friendly enough, with their gestures and kind sounding voice. So Riku stepped forward, carefully, eyeballing the fish and then the water. Face placid and still, and of course silent.
The wolf was honestly more curious about their skill, and wished to learn a bit more by observation. So she sat, eyes staring, just before the water and next to the stranger.
Briefly, her gaze flickered between the water and the woman, hoping that would catch the idea that Riku wished to watch.

"Oh, ya wanna watch me?"

The body language was enough of a tell. Tallulah seemed to understand the other didn't speak much common tongue. Usually, another wolf was confused by her accent, not her language. She smiled and turned briefly as the brunette approached, seeing the curiosity in their eyes. Maybe they wanted to learn how to fish.

She instructed by movement. She didn't need to lean back though, what with the clouds, so she raised a paw instead. Her movements above didn't reflect the mindless fish below. They swam like sheep, unaware of the dangers. Tallulah knew a trick to attract them again and lowered her paw. Repeating a movement of 'patting' the surface gently, the ripples caused the fish to search.

One fat one came along. She retracted her paw a bit, only to flash out and scoop it out. If the fish could scream, it probably would. Hitting the ground, it was stunned and she humanely killed it. Tallulah would turn and nudge the fish toward the other, a kind smile on her features. Hopefully they weren't offended by the freebie.
