Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

mmm right near the vale, probs close enough to be found by @Aries or one of the parents! Maybe a bab too, idk :) Also, pls don’t feel complied to post if you were mentioned!

It was growing colder, Ookpik knew, and he hoped that the puppies were doing well, as chaotic as the last experience was… The bird.. missed them? No, that didn’t sound right… well, something like that.

So, swooping past the vale, Ookpik would try to gaze past the mountains and peaks down to the family, though he wasn’t close enough. While he didn’t want to attract the puppies in fear of the screaming girl, Ookpik thought that… perhaps… he could speak to their leaders? Or Aries! His new bestfriend!

Taking a seat on one of the lower peaks, he let out a call for Aries, or one for @Tiberius if he was close by. Maybe the white woman, as well? @Olive?

With a bundle of moss within her maw, the light star-touched hair was heading toward the den of Olive, to offer a refresher for any that needed. Children were rough-housers after all, especially the lil tomboy Tiberii, and she could already imagine some of the bedding to be torn. Pelts to do, but moss as a firm pillow beneath. As she was passing through, her golden eyes caught the sight of a familiar one — and Aries bent down to drop the moss on the floor as she smiled, "Ookpik," did she call out.

His call was not answered only by a wolf, but by another owl. Lounatuuli swept down from her high branch with a firm swoop of her wings, clawed feet yearning for a branch just abreast his own. She settled and carefully folded her wings, allowing the down of her puffing up her feathers for a moment as a means to reorganize and smooth them. She looked between the owl, and his friend; a similarly colored, pale wolfess.

The bird turned to face the other so alike to her. She had seem him around and heard of his ruckus, but he wasn't a part of her clan and she didn't know much about him. However, her initial impression was excessively negative.
"So you're the other owl." Lou questioned, unimpressed. "Where have you been?" She swiveled her head to look at him out the side of her wide, orb-like eyes. She had been nothing but attentive and useful since being enlisted for service by the Priestess, Olive. Where had this bird been, if he was calling for them as friends?

"Only good for scaring the puppies," she tittered, with perhaps too much haughty sass for her own good. "Not for watching them." Which she had done, many times. At no point did it Lounatuuli think that perhaps this male had paved the way for the puppies' eventual comfort around her own self, or that she was only allowed around them by virtue of working closely with their mother.

It hadn't taken long for his call to be heard by two from the pack, one he knew, the familiar pale mid-wife, and one he didn't, an owl. It seemed he wasn't the only owl with a consciousness in these parts. Aries called his name, and Ookpike let out a small hoot in response, before turning to the other owl.

"So you're the other owl." Her tone, unimpressed, accusatory? What had he done wrong, hm? "Where have you been?" Ookpik let out a dry laugh, hypothetically rolling his eyes, if he could. “Foraging for Ookpik's friend, Aries,” He chittered in owl-tongue, pointing out that he was, in fact, in the right. Or at least, he thought so.

She then continued. "Only good for scaring the puppies, not for watching them." Ookpik's memories ventured back to @Euphemia, preening one of his wings casually as he recited their previous encounter. “Euphemia liked Ookpik, so did @Aurelia, not Ookpik's fault that one start screaming, crying.”

Ookpik was certain some pups were just... a little emotional.

Only mentioned for visibility! Feel free to ignore <3

Another owl approached, one that Aries vaguely seen and heard about it, but never truly known. They were a barn owl, usually hovering around the Priestess, someone that came and went like the wind, and it was the first time she heard them. A head turning toward, smiling lightly, "I do not think we have met, I am Aries, a helper to the Priestess." Perhaps to ease such a tension that almost went between herself and her friend Ookpik.

"He often helps with gathering." Although she could not hear the chatter of owl-tongue, unknowingly the pale dame repeated his words. She enjoyed his company and his help ; a beautiful avian that was much to be prized. It was surely unusual for them to be speaking, but all the more helpful when it came to providing.
