Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Liutheri

"And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places..."

@Rea

Liutheri was getting back into the swing of things and trying to help out more when he could. He needed to start pulling his weight again, and fast. When he was not training with Ira or exploring the territory that he held dear, he was keeping tabs on who he could. There were both new and old faces to get a read on. One in particular he had been meaning to address was suddenly in his sights this evening.

Liutheri had been observing some new flowers he had never seen before, contemplating how they have now only started to spread. He was once told by another that birds could be a culprit, dropping seeds as the fly about. He still wasn't so sure, they'd still have to be buried right? Oh but if it rained... Such thoughts were snapped off as he spotted Rea heading down the summit. Switching gears, he called to her.

"Rea, do you have a second?" he asked as he hurried over to her with a brisk pace, still getting use to his longer legs. He looked at the other and tried to hold back his worry, but it was evident on his face. Liutheri just couldn't get over how small she still was compared to the rest of Ira's litter, both in height and width. He still preferred to be a silent guardian, connections were far too frightening. Yet he would never be able to rest in peace again without checking on her fully.

She was on the move, as usual. Rea had spotted some fresh prints in the soft dirt around one of her father's patrol routes along the Southern border near Ullarcraig Run, much like a rabbit's but significantly larger. She was excited to see the monster bunny they might belong to so followed them as far as they'd lead her. Ultimately they vanished among the more rugged, rocky terrain and in the absence of a good sense of smell, the mottled Boesch failed to detect which direction it might've gone off toward.

Rea carried on, not at all disappointed by her failure, and a voice from behind caught her attention. She shifted to blink curiously over her skinny shoulders and her tail swung to attention as she spotted @Liutheri's thinned frame veer her way. Pausing for her brother to close the distance between them, she smiled brightly. “Hey, Loofy,” she chirped, glad to see him, and reached up to mouth playfully at his lower jaw as he drew near, “what's up?”

As usual Liutheri found the spark of irritation resonate within him due the various nicknames that everyone and their mothers seemed to come up with. "It's Liu-" He stopped in his protest to silently panic as the other tried to mouth him playfully. All he knew how to do was be a stick in the mud. He tried to move his chin away for a second before he just gave up on stoicism and let everything play out. "Never mind..." he would finish up with, still and cold as ice as the other shared in her excitement and happiness. It was an atypical encounter, a witness could think he was impatient or upset at the other when it was the opposite. One was expressive and the other, him, was just simply awkward from his self-inflicted isolation.

She responded quick and he hesitated, for but a second before making up his mind. He was being nosy, but it was his job at this rate. "Rea, it's been a while and I just wanted to catch up and make sure you're doing okay." He started carefully with, trying to pick his words well. "Because you...Well you see...I..what I mean is..." He stumbled a bit, frustrated because he didn't have the heart to give her an ear-full when she was just looking at him all pure and happy-like. He didn't want to be the cause to ruin her expression but he found his voice. "I hear that you like to go out and explore a lot, is that true?" Interrogation was starting now. "Does your mother, father, or at least any guard know where you are during these expeditions if the former is indeed true?" He would finish with a tight frown, intense eyes staring at her to pick up whatever she may convey.

Liutheri, as expected, did not appreciate her continued use of the nickname that'd been fondly bestowed on him in their infancy. She shot him a mischievous look as he began to correct her, quickly realising there was no point. Rea was perhaps the most stubborn of the Boesch youngsters; the knowledge that her affectionate moniker for Liutheri annoyed him was fuel enough for her to carry on.

She moved away, eager to resume her tracking, and kept an ear trained on the other yearling as her jade eyes studied the ground once more in search of her giant rabbit's tracks. She didn't mind if Loofy trailed her while she tried to locate her intended prize, her focus clearly elsewhere while she listened to him stumble awkwardly with his words. It was a little annoying, honestly, though when he finally spit out the point she stopped dead in her stride. Rea blinked over a skinny shoulder at his ghostly face, her lower jaw loosened in surprise that her wanderings seemed to be a hot topic among the pack, though she was quick to straighten.

“Whoever told you that is a dirty liar,” she told him dismissively, an edge of defense to her tone, for she did not appreciate the way he stared at her. Rea glowered right back, unwavering. She was almost a whole year old now! She was a young adult! She didn't need a baby-sitter anymore and she absolutely did not like that Liutheri was hinting that it was something she still required. Rea barely allowed an opportunity for him to respond as she turned from him, eager to remove herself from the scene; if he had anything else to say on the matter, his words would fall on deaf ears.
