Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write, though the game also rewards high activity
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • Writing is collaborative, and so is our supportive community
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Filavandrel thrived. He learned swiftly and seemed to sprout even more quickly. Disproportioned, the little Prince's ashen ears stood awkwardly tall atop his pallid crown and his paws remained oversized. His coat had changed, developing darker shades across his face and shoulders that better resembled the lilac of his toes. Overall he was still fluffy and adorable, though he would soon outgrow his cuteness and develop the lean and long-legged figure expected of his bloodline. His eyes would transition from the stormy blue of infancy to a hue unlike his siblings', but he was looking forward to the new adventures his parents discussed quietly among themselves while believing the cubs occupied themselves with other things.

Dad had gone off a couple of days prior, leaving his mother to mind the little ones primarily. Other Shiroshika wolves would drop by from time to time to deliver food or to make boring conversation with the Empress, and sometimes they'd linger to mind the trio while Reiko ventured off to tend to pack duties. He didn't mind being left alone with those who weren't his family, for he trusted easily and was always glad to see a new face.

“Rrrr,” he rumbled to a fat bumblebee who buzzed around near the last of the Summertime flowers, drawn to the vibrant pink and crimson shades. He leaned in close to examine its fat black-yellow body, to better see its strange little legs. It was weirdly fascinating how insects were attracted to plants, and Filavandrel settled in the grass to contemplate poking it with his nose.
