Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Yael didn't know where she was at first. It was dark, muggy, and humid. Yet the sky didn't pray-tell what time of day it was until her eyes had been forced open, the hiding sun behind a barrier of clouds gleaming. She'd squint, groaning as her muscles ached with fury as she attempted to move.

She was trapped beneath a fallen tree, soaked with a previous night of rain. The soil of the earth called to her quietly, beckoning her to stay, but she would not answer. She had to get up. Yael would weave, squirm, until she had almost been free. But she needed to catch her breath. With an aching body, she was no use to the might of the fallen tree.

Her head hit the ground with a thump, soft as it hit the woodchips, and her eyelids fluttered.

Through the forest she walked, the familiar breath of Elkshire surrounding and the mixture of the elk that travelled through. She could see one in the distance, eyes-locking before it turned away and trotted off to elsewhere, perhaps the range for the flowers to munch on before the season changed. Fall was coming, Celnes could feel the temperature drop and the way the leaves were falling. The ripe green was no longer, tinting lightly to something more, a welcoming change though, she valued autumn above all else. It was a color, that suited a Deorwine.

Lifting her nose, there was a scent within the wind, someone unfamiliar. Wasn't there, then there. She paced lightly through, a being underneath the tree, a wolf to be precise. She smelled like thistleberries & jasmine, but nothing that deemed an intruder. Though trapped that she was, Celnes approached, standing in front of her with a smile, "do you need help?" but she yet to move, and waited for the answer.

A burnt yet sweet smell pinched at the corners of her nose. Yael's eyes opened, creaking with a strength that she didn't bear, to face a brown-hued woman that stared at her with a growing smile.

A soft breath left her mouth, exalted from the depths of her lungs. "Please. אנא." Her native tongue rippled out, a sensation of dread fumbling its way out of her mouth. Her hind legs began to tingle with numbness, and panic set in. The tree just needs to be moved slightly— just a little bit... then she would be free. Yael relied on this woman for help, something she would never do, but here she was...doing just that.

 אנא—please

She was a pretty little thing, trapped underneath the log. A grey coating with underneath of amber-browns, something about this coloration was bear-ish to say the least, and it faintly brought her wondering of how the Woodland bears were faring.. They had sadly left for reasons, but was all the more welcomed back when it was time. Her gray was imperfected though, highly dipped in a more brown-tone as she stepped closer, and eye'd Yael, and the log itself.

It wasn't too difficult to start move it from her angle, especially at the others movement to be set free, "It's quite unusual to see a guest of Elkshire, trapped underneath a log," The Queen said in a huff as she moved it gradually. Words that she was not found in but a random land, oh-no, but in a pack's lands. But Celnes, who was so-kind to some, especially at potential members to poach out, wouldn't be so hostile, yet. She was smiling.

The woman had graciously allowed Yael to slip beneath the hefty log, and she had, with exhaustion rampant in her chest, stood weakly before the brown-tinted woman. She uttered a word that Yael knew not of, and her head turned to the side involuntarily. "Elkshire?" Yael would ask, then her eyes would focus on the area around them.

The forest was vast and grand, coveted in greenery and flora that stretched for miles. It would be stupid for Yael not to be awed by such luscious hilltops and sanctuaries. Her mouth was almost left agape, finally feeling free from the life that she had previously lived.

"You appeared in The Elk's Crown, claimed by Elkshire under Queen Celnes Deorwine," She said smiling, raising her head within a pride and charm, all to the more willing to expand of what was her claim. And the other.. Who was decorated in light fond colors and other, was now standing within it. She was young, but an adult — something that the pack oh-so needed with the supple amount of children that continued to roam forever more.

Yael would say nothing as the proud woman before she raised her head with pride. Yael wasn't stupid, but she had to confirm her suspicions. "You are the Queen Célnes?" Assuming that she had been correct, Yael offered herself in the form of a light bow. She had known nothing of this Elkshire but royalty was royalty— and as much as she disdained it, it controlled aspects of life that Yael yearned for.

Safety, food, comfort of all things she had been robbed of and now...here they may be, slathered on a platter before her face. "I would be honored to serve a queen." Yael's voice was gentle, faint, as she spoke her words true.

It couldn't be denied her lips curled in such a pleasure, more then pleased for someone to bow toward her. Many came to this land, awakening and of neutrality than any deep respect one would give to royalty.. Even some with but distaste, anger and spitting at like she was scum — it had been some time, quite some time someone so properly gave what she wanted, and believed to deserve, as she nodded.

"I was not expecting someone to join.. But you are all the more welcomed." It would be a fools game to reject someone so openly, and yet it could be said a stranger, stuck in The Elk's Crown was suspicious. Plain-walkers were all the more common though, and she thought this was but another, who desired safety in a Kingdom.

Celnes welcomed her wholly.
