Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

At least now time has passed since the attack, and her sham at healing gave but the smallest bits of relief. She was maybe too confident in her seeking of bettering herself, and without the help of others. Older as so, she was tending to better methods of hunting for herself then fending to the caches of other prey. She knew by heart now, she was weak, and it hurt the small pride that she had grown as a Deorwine, as a sibling of those she looked up with and — the annoyance.

Deep breathes, she reminded herself — for by now Faust learned her complaints would heed nothing, and the cries were futile and looked down upon, remembering the red-eyed man who through her tears, snapped at her so. Nightmares plaguing of his face within the darkness, approaching and stalking..

Faust lunged! Through the bushes she was awaiting, at the birds fluttered the ground and pecked at any seeds that blew by the wind. She was careful in her placement, silently waiting for but a perfect moment where she deemed was well-enough to leap forward. Through the bushes she snarled, a jump toward these birds, but her side ached. She winced, and in that same moment.. They flew away.

Leaving her looking to the sky at a failed catch.

He romped through, subtle not being a word one could use. Often, the birds would leave or go silent altogether at his coming. No matter, the fat bear had no interest to eat them anyway.

The crashing within the nearby bushes had his ears flick, and the curious bear drove on. Perhaps someone has caught a meal for him to wrestle from their paws and eat?

So on he went through the trees, stomping away and sniffing for tubers as he went. There was a little beasty, likely a child, though he admittedly never was good at telling the difference between them all. They were all so much smaller than him. Yet this one was more-so. He stood up, tall and high on hind legs to get a better view of her. One paw on a near tree so as to keep his balance. No- she did not have any food.
He groaned when he came to such conclusion before stomping, flopping, banging back onto the forest floor. All his weight shook it so, and he neared closer to the child.

"Food?"

He questioned in that booming voice of his, hoping he could spook the child into revealing where a carcass might lay hidden beneath the dirt.

She froze, like a cat when frightened. Large eyes looking at the bear in a surprise.. She knew there was bears in the woods, and that it had been sometime since Mother had seen them.. They were white with young though, and this was a very large male that even she knew, surely this was not the same. Her tail was rather high on guard, her body posture attempted to remain neutrality but made it clear she looked like a near-rabbit ready to run away then any attack. Instincts clear by now, when to run.

Food?

".. I don't have any."
