Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

He met @Hieronymous in the run just before sunrise and together, the two leaders ventured out into the territories beyond their respective claims. Quicksilver had been looking forward to getting out with his best friend for the day, far enough away to gain that little taste of freedom he craved - a change of scenery to provide a much-needed reprieve from the usual routine of duty. He loved his family, adored them, and felt he'd fit in well with his new role as Emperor, but sometimes a break was necessary.

Dawn began to lighten the land as they departed Ullarcraig, and the friends shared the beginning of their trip exchanging updates of one another's families.

“We might share grandchildren some day,” he laughed, having definitely warmed to the idea of his offspring marrying into Vanderfell - so long as it was not expected of them. It still amused him greatly that he and Reiko had been blessed with two sons and a daughter, while Hiero and Ira had reared two daughters and a son. “I hope they all get along when we introduce them.”

Of course he would gladly accompany Quicksilver on a walk beyond their borders. He too loved to feed that bug for adventure and it was always that much better when shared with a friendly face. He'd tell @Ira he would return before nightfall and off he went with a bounce in his step for some manly bonding.

“Quicksilver, are you already having ideas?” He jested with a teasing tone. Knowing the comment was innocent as it could come and yet he couldn't help but seize the moment to play around a bit with the Druid. “Ah, but —” He sighed, quickly changing to a less teasing tone and more that of a mourning father. “You may be right. I have to start deciding what kind of in-law I'll be. Easy going? Or difficult?” Decisions decisions.

Naturally, a father would come to his own colours when the time came, but still, it was amusing to think he could be both. Stern and a hardass with whom his children paired up with, as well as easy going when they tick all the right boxes and not set off any red flags.

— Hiero has a dull sense of smell, it will affect how I play him and how he acts in threads

At Hiero's teasing, the druid shot him a sideways glance. He narrowed his eyes, though any suggestion of frustration was betrayed by the fullness of his smile. Quicksilver hopped over a rugged stone that stuck out of the earth, and upon landing he swayed to bump playfully to his friend's mottled shoulder. “Don't act like you don't love that idea,” he laughed.

He was a fresh parent, and grandchildren were not in his near future. Quicksilver was hopeful that he and Reiko could rear another litter or two before a new generation would come along, “we both know you'll be the soft one.” Who was he kidding? The druid had seen how Hieronymous had turned to putty when his own little ones turned those puppy-dog eyes on him. To imagine as him anything but kind and generous was not possible.

Quicksilver looked ahead again, and caught sight of the dark hide of some... goats? He squinted, seeing how their coats were less coarse and more wool, and he quickened his stride. “Sheep on the menu, Hiero,” he barked, and flagged his tail enthusastically.
