Anyone from #coyotegang and maybe a stranger if someone wants to hop in?

The hot, dry air was a familiar annoyance to Kincaid, who was still shedding the last vestiges of his winter coat, and currently looked something like a lion since the thick fur around his neck could not be reached by his teeth. He was perfectly unaware of the likeness, having never seen or even heard of a lion, and so he went about his business of marking up the lake as if there was no spectacle to be had.

The heat was such that the day couldn't be good for much more than lifting his leg on a couple of rocks, and digging down to cooler sand each time his bed grew warm from his body heat. This was the sort of lazy, lovely life that Kincaid had always lived, except now he had his coyote around to relieve any boredom and loneliness he might have been feeling. But the sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, and so Kincaid was picking himself up and shaking himself out, and looking around for some way to cause mischief.

He yawned, and then the yawn turned into a whine and then the whine into a raucous song. The lyrics were: I'm bored, I'm bored, I'm bored, someone come chase me.

Over the last few days, Aplomado had been gradually expanding her radius of exploration further south, beyond the scrub and chaparral and into the oasis-sprinkled badlands in search of medicinal plants. One such find was currently clamped in her jaws - a broad blade of agave she had painstakingly gnawed free of its mother plant. She had scratched herself up slightly in the process, but it was nothing that her bounty itself wouldn't fix, and she'd liberally applied the sap that leaked from the freshly cut leaf to her scuffed paws. She'd allow to rest to dry out in the sun back home to be rehydrated as needed. Thankfully, in the desert, agave was never in short supply.

A wild howl drew her attention away from the random, vaguely hunger-defined thoughts in her head, and she paused in her tracks. Was it worth investigating? It's not like she had anything better to do, and her plant would keep. Perhaps it would be a good opportunity to meet some of her desert neighbours.

She hastily buried the leaf in the shade of a slanted cactus, and padded along in the direction that was her best guess as to the source of the sound. Said source proved to be a tawny-gold wolf, which she eyed with thinly veiled interest. “Y'all are a noisy bunch around here,” she mused dryly, but with a glimmer of amusement in her dark eyes.

That dude had been okay. The tangy colored one with those squinty eyes. They were kinda cute now that she thought about it without the haze of pain in her head. They'd set off to find his friend and hopefully they were still together now... although now she was bored. All alone... no one in the world. Had that been her life before? How freaking lonely was that? Exceedingly so if you asked her! So, what would she do now? Continue to wander alone in these unfamiliar sands until she found something? Or maybe she could search out something or someone else?

Nah, what if she found that Kin-dude again and bugged him some more? It had been fun snarking at each other previously so she imagined it'd be that way again! How could it not be? With her mind set, the young woman determinedly began to try to track down the fellow. Only she had no clues to go by. Only that he seemed like he'd be a desert wolf. Maybe she should try to find some coyotes. Would he be hanging around them? A weird thing to do but one she wouldn't knock. Heck, she might do it herself. She'd heard that coyotes could be pretty playful and fun to be around. That was right up her alley.

It was then that she heard the sound of whining over the air and the voice was very familiar.

 Kin! Kin!

She smiled happily to herself and kicked herself into gear, setting off at a lope across the harsh sands. Her body was made for this and the heat that blared on her back was a welcome companion, even if these lands weren't familiar. Now that she knew a direction to go, the smell of her --friend? she'd say friend-- was coming over the sands to greet her. Bored, was he? Well, she was perfectly able to cure that! Somehow. She didn't know how yet but it would come to her.

The woman wasn't the first to arrive, she saw as another wolf was there. Small as well but dark and not native to these areas, she assumed. The sandy woman put on a cheeky grin as she walked right up to Kin and plopped herself next to him as if they were the best of buds. "That's the best way to be, ain't it?" She said with a toothy smile to the woman. Then she looked at the man next to her --provided he hadn't moved-- and said, "You look pretty slow to be asking for someone to play chase with you." The woman said with a sniff, as if she were judging his running skills. She wondered what he'd do.

After a certain point, Kincaid had to start wondering what all these young girls were doing out wandering the desert. Sure, they weren't children and therefore had a right to be out on their own, but where had all these young dispersal females been when he was just starting out??? Kincaid had to chalk it up to something in the water (apparently not his own urine) and carry on with his bad self.

His first response to the dark female's comment was a challenging bark as he slapped his sandy paws against the hard-packed desert clay. He was loud, and if anyone had a problem with it, well, he had something to say about that. (And it wasn't going to be quiet.) Thankfully, the return of Oryx kept him from making too much a fool of himself. He said,

"Watch it, smartass," and lifted a paw to try and shove at her face. "You might be faster, but I'm bigger. And I'm Kincaid, more to the point," This last part was directed at Aplomado. "And this is Oryx. You up for a game?" He bowed, stretching his back until it crackled, and then charging forward a few paces with his head slung low, grizzling playfully at his fellow wolves. If Oryx tried to get him back, he was ready to swing in her direction and aim a few harmless snaps at those long twiggy legs.

The male's bark and play-posture sparked a laugh. How wildly this meeting differed from others of late. Perhaps it was the nature of the climate, and the fact that its residents more or less had to simply sleep or entertain themselves through the hot afternoons compared to their more "productive" temperate counterparts who could be active through the daylight hours without fear of heat exhaustion. Or perhaps they were all just a bit off in the head to favour such places. Whatever the reason, she welcomed it, and as far as she was concerned, it was simply much more fun to be active by night and the shoulder hours.

It wasn't long before another wolf answered the call — this one a strikingly leggy beast with a dark racing stripe down her sides — and Aplomado returned the stranger's smile in kind. There was a certain appeal of being obnoxious. It appeared that the two sandy coloured wolves had already been acquainted and were more than comfortable taunting one another, and she cautiously arched a brow. “You've piqued my interest,” she replied, swishing her tail in a low, wide arc, muscles tensed and ready to spring should she suddenly find herself the target of an unexpected pounce. “Nice to meet you both. I'm Aplomado.”

[narrow width=450] The woman let out a snicker when she was called a "smartass". Naturally! She wouldn't be herself if she was anything but a smartass. When that paw came up to shove at her face she let out a yelp and dramatically fell back into the sand as if he'd used more than just a mild amount of force with his playful push. "Bigger don't count for shit if you can't catch the smaller wolf!" She taunted right back. Big words for a very small someone lying on the ground.

She rolled over then, and sprang back to her paws with spritely energy. Was she up for a game? Oryx was always up for a game. Her tongue lolled out of her mouth in childish joy as she too crouched with her forelegs splayed on the ground and her tail waving in the air playfully. Less talk! More action!

She grinned cheekily at the dark she-wolf and then canted her head towards Kincaid in a silent ask. Two on one seemed fair to her! He had just been talking about how big he was! Let's see if that counted now with both of them going after him. Without further ado she let out a high pitched yip and bounced at Kincaid, jaws aiming to snap at his tail and pull on the hairs before trying to spring away. Her long limbs weren't just for show!

Although they were apparently targets as Kincaid snapped at them with his fangs, grazing the hairs as she giggled and bounced backwards. He wasn't that slow it seemed!

Let me know if it's too much PP @Feather I tried to go along with the last bit of your post when it said he would snap at Oryx if she got too close.

Unaware of the gestures going on behind his back, Kincaid was thinking about a little bit of two-on-one himself. Him and Aplomado against the smartass, of course! But before he could suggest this to the black-caped shewolf, teeth were closing on his tail! Not painfully, but enough to make him spin and snap at the smaller female.

Fortunately for her, she was already out of reach. Unfortunately for her, he wasn't quite as slow as he seemed and was actually quite fleetfooted as he set off after her. "Cut her off by the water!" he called to Aplomado, trying to herd Oryx toward the shoreline. He assumed that she would be on his team, still.

Short action-y post!

Oryx's gesture did not go unnoticed, and Aplomado flashed the sandy female a sidelong wink. The third member of their trio had whined about boredom and the lack of entertainment, so entertainment he would get. The other female wasted no time going for Kincaid's tail, and Aplomado took the cue to join the fray, pulling up alongside the male in hasty pursuit of Oryx. She was fleet-footed as well — albeit perhaps not as speedy as Oryx — and slipped ahead of Kincaid, snapping at the gazelle-like wolf's heels and doing her best to herd her towards the water as instructed.

Stealing a glance over her shoulder to confirm that Kincaid was still behind her, Aplomado bounded forward with a final burst of speed, but rather than close the narrow stretch between her and Oryx for the "kill," she yipped, firmly dug in her heels, and swung her body broadside. If she'd timed it right, he would only have a couple of options — barrel right into her, jump into the water, or attempt to tumble out of the way and hopefully right into Oryx's clutches.

[narrow width=450] Oh ho ho, so it seemed that Aplomado was game! The darkened woman gave a sly wink and the sandy girl smirked. Game on!

After she'd playfully snapped at Kin and danced away, she really realized how fast he was. He was right on her heels as he tried to herd her towards the water like some common cattle. RUDE!

For a moment, Aplo seemed like she'd turned tail and decided to betray her newfound ally! The woman came after her, all of this she gleaned with a glance over her shoulder, and bolted in front of Kincaid. The woman snapped at her heels, eliciting a, "Hey!" From the gazelle-striped maiden. However, just as it seemed like she'd have to go for a dip... The dark woman turned on Kincaid! Haha! Score!

With a triumphant bark, Oryx turned around with sand flying and prepared to pounce on the male if he came her way. They had him for sure this time! There was nowhere to go unless he wanted to take a dip!

Splashing around in the water did sound like a good idea to Kincaid, who was still sporting a little too much of his winter coat to appreciate even the evening sunlight. So chasing Oryx into the water (that he had, in fact, peed in and around this time) seemed like the perfect way to end the day.

And then, at the last minute, he was b E t R a Y e D by his most trusted acquaintance, and so it was out of plain spite rather than desire not to get wet that he went ahead and bowled into her, still too startled to mount much of an attack.

“You sneak!” he laughed as he tumbled painfully to the ground, jaws clacking together at the landing. But he was wheeling already, snapping his teeth at the closest warm body as he fought through the confusion to try and make it back to his feet.

Kincaid went for the option that Aplomado had least expected, and the collision sent them both sprawling. Down was up and up was down, and sand was flying. With the wind knocked right out of her, the raven female's laughter came out as a wheezy whistle, and she scrabbled at the ground in an attempt to regain her balance.

She felt jaws close around her scruff and managed a playful growl, flailing her limbs and snapping wildly in an attempt to dislodge the other. Aplomado only managed to trip herself up on Kincaid's legs in the process, however, and ultimately ended up in an inelegant little heap with a muzzle full of loose, golden winter fur. Well, at least her ruse had achieved its purpose and slowed him down. Hopefully Oryx would be more successful in subduing him.

Oryx was just so sure that Kincaid would fly right into the water or right into her clutches. There would be no two ways about it! Except... he didn't do what she predicted. With a gasp, she saw the man fly right into Aplo at full speed! Well, he certainly had balls, she had to admit that! She was impressed at his stubborn determination!

At the canine pile Oryx began to bark and yip excitedly while hopping back and forth next to them, making false starts and snapping at any tangle of limb she could see. Whether it was Kincaid or otherwise, she had gotten far too excited and was just filled with joy at snipping at whatever she could without discrimination. After a few heartbeats she was able to wrangle herself under control and attempted to grab the man by his scruff. "Throw him in the water!" She announced with a high-pitched bark of excitement.

Someone was getting dunked today! Whether it be her, Kin, or Aplomado! Never mind the fact that she and Aplo were both smaller than than the part-coyote, she still figured their enthusiasm would help get him subdued.

For a moment, he had her! Scruff between his jaws and legs still jellified from impact. Kincaid tried to struggle to his paws in an attempt to get himself on top of her and overpower the other wolf, but laughter made him weak, and eventually had her slipping out of his grip.

Before he knew what hit him, the tides had turned, and both shewolves had their paws underneath them, and one of them had his scruff in her jaws.

"HAVE MERCY!" he shouted, wheeling his legs and trying to caterpillar out of Oryx's grip. "PLEASE! OUCH, MY DIGNITY!" Okay, so he wasn't trying too hard. Instead, he was scrabbling, still half on his back, in Aplomado's direction, hoping to grab her with his flailing forepaws and drag her to the ground. Of course, it wasn't easy with Oryx tugging him toward the water. He must've had a couple dozen pounds on her, at least, but she was still making admirable process.

Teeth nipped at Aplomado from seemingly every direction, and continued to flail until Oryx managed to get a grip of Kincaid's scruff. She whooped in celebration and acknowledgement of the woman's spoken goal, finally managing to roll herself right side up and finding herself the subject of the Kincaid's grabby paws trying to drag her down. Without too much flesh on her bones and her short coat, Aplomado managed to wriggle away without losing too much fur, and lowered into a play bow just out of the sandy fellow's reach. “I don't ever recall saying I was merciful,” she grinned toothily and lunged forward to grasp at whatever appendage she could seize to take some of the burden off Oryx.

And so began their chaotic, scrappy march to the water's edge. As Aplomado shuffled backwards, balance compromised somewhat by the struggling and with her hindquarters pointing to the water, there was a good chance that she too would be dragged in alongside Kincaid, but that was a sacrifice she was willing to make.

Success! With Aplomado's help they were able to grab him and manhandle him towards the water! He kicked and put up a fuss the whole way there. The sandy she-wolf was barely able to keep her grip on him! He was larger and he seemed very determined. "Shorry. All'outta merchy!" She giggled around his fur. Gosh this was hard! Her gait was thrown off significantly and she barely managed to stay on her feet. "Schtop shrugglin'!" Hmph! This was even more difficult as they prepared to heave him in!

The woman tossed but then she found herself slipping. Whether it was due to a tricky move from her victim or the fact that she was off-balanced, her eyes widened as she fell towards the water with her previous motion. Oh no! The woman let out a startled bark as she fell with a splash into the water. She flailed around in a most undignified fashion for a moment before sitting up on her haunches and shooting an accusing glance at her victim. She didn't know if he'd done it or not but she would still blame him either way! Her tongue licked out at him.

Bathing in water was not normally among his hobbies, but he could live with it, today. He allowed himself to be dragged into the water, still struggling and hollering just for the fun of it. He made sure Oryx got in with him, however, and then made an effort to drag Aplomado in as well.

“And it's properly marked, this time!” he said to Oryx when he caught sight of her unamused expression. It was difficult to choose between continuing to harass Aplomado or going to bother Oryx — how was a man to live with himself when spoiled with such choice? But Oryx, he felt, was the master of this terrible plot against him, and so his play-ire was directed at her.

“I might still forgive you and allow you to join our gang if you help me take her down,” he said to Aplomado. “I am a kind and benevolent Oasis King.”

Oryx stumbled and went for a swim, and Aplomado was not far behind her. She spluttered and scrabbled for a moment before righting herself into a sitting position with the water lapping erratically at her sides. Well, that went about as well as expected. Through their combined effort they had managed to drag Kincaid in, and even if they had both gotten soaked in the process, it was worth it on principle. Kincaid had been the first to suggest tossing someone in the water in the first place, after all.

The self-proclaimed King's offer prompted an audible hmm from Aplomado, who tilted her head to the side and gave it a quick smack with one of her forelegs to dislodge some water from her inner ear. Had she really heard that correctly? It was anyone's guess. “Right now it's looking like the Oasis is run by a couple of Queens,” she countered with a grin, shaking her head vigorously and spraying water in all directions. “Or did I miss some kind of vote?”

It seemd as if at the end of the day, they were all going in! Kincaid was first then the girls, Oryx didn't know which order they'd landed in but it didn't matter. All three canines were getting a bath in likely piss-soaked water. No biggie. She played as if she was angry but the woman wasn't at all. "Groooosss!" She said to him, making a disgusted face, playing up the drama just a bit more for funzies.

While Kincaid was trying to play Aplomado against her, the sandy woman in question was shaking her head. The woman cared not if she accidentally splashed her company. Still, she shot a wide grin at the dark wolfess and winked. "My sentiments exactly." Silly boy, he was outnumbered! "Pay no mind to the servant boy. He only thinks he's king. Clearly we're the rulers here!" She waved a paw at Kincaid as if dismissing his traitorous words entirely. "As an Oasis Queen, you are of course welcome in our gang." The blonde she-wolf promised to her accomplish.

How awesome would it be to have Aplomado running with them? The herby smelling woman was absolutely perfect!

What a riot! Kincaid, of course, was going to remain king until a larger wolf upstaged him (in his opinion), but with two lordly ladies standing over him, "servant boy" seemed like a far more interesting title. He stood and shook out his pelt (even though he was still in the water) and bowed to his queens.

“My thanks,” he said with a wicked grin, attempting to sidle closer to Oryx. “Tell me your wish, O my desert queens, and I will make it my command.”

He made as if to pepper kisses on the underside of Oryx's jaw, and then tackled her instead. His toothy maw opened to try and take loose hold of her scruff — he thought she needed to be dunked again in order to learn her lesson, queen or not.

Of course, this plan of attack left him open to retaliation from Queen Aplomado — but Kincaid was counting on it, in the mood to be roughed up as long as it was all in good fun.

Aplomado was happy to hear that Oryx was keen to play along with her game, though she had never really doubted it based on how things had unfolded in the last hour or so. The raven female similarly looked down at their new servant boy with a hoity toity expression and nodded in agreement with her fellow queen's words. She hoped that Oryx would have a suitable demand for their newest subject, as she herself was not the most creative of creatures, but her quiet brainstorming was interrupted by Kincaid's attempt at a coup.

How dare he!

A playful growl bubbled forth from her muzzle, and Aplomado sprung into action to capitalize on Kincaid's preoccupation with his current target at the expense of his rear. His sandy bottlebrush was an ideal target. “You best be showin' some respect before I turn you into a bobcat,” she threatened, voice garbled and muffled by the bushy tail firmly clamped between her jaws.

Oh how the tables had turned! Except... they hadn't! Where Oryx thought that their new "servant" was about to pay proper respects with cheek kissing, he instead tackled her into the water. The woman could only let out a startled yelp before she was swished swiftly underneath the water. "Aploooooo!" She managed to wail before being dunked under by the scruff of her neck. She was helpless in the male's larger grip. Helpless and soaked through! Oh, he would pay! He would receive the dunking of his life!!

Still, while she was captured the woman began to kick and flail. Hopefully she would thrash enough that he would become absolutely soaked --again-- himself. Maybe she'd even losen his grip with how much she kicked about! This was no way for a desert queen to be handled!

Although his superior size and strength doubtlessly gave him an edge, Kincaid was not seeking to harm or even to reign victorious; he only wanted to play. Once Oryx was dunked, she was quickly let back up again, and then Kincaid was happy to take his turn getting re-soaked as well.

When Aplomado grabbed hold of his tail, he turned toward her with a playful grizzle, and then made a few snaps for her tail in an attempt to make a wolf ouroboros. But whether or not he managed it, he soon had to turn his attention back to the harrying Oryx, and between the two of them he was not slated to remain victor for very long.

Eventually, even Kincaid felt he'd taken enough abuse and dragged himself from the water to flop down on the hot sand. His tail wagged in passive submission; he'd do just about anything if it meant he'd be allowed to nap in peace!
Some PP but I can roll back or change things as needed. Feel free to bother him some more; he'd tired but he loves the attention.

Aplomado's grabbing of Kincaid's tail allowed Oryx a respite from her dunking, but she soon found herself the target of a similar attack. The two briefly held each other in place by their tails before splitting apart and moving onto the next assault. Stomping through the water to where she had last seen Oryx spluttering around, Aplomado double checked to make sure she hadn't drowned and chuffed at her fellow Queen.

Apparently tired from their shenanigans, Kincaid hauled himself from the water and sprawled himself out on the sand. Sopping and now thoroughly dishevelled herself, Aplomado could sympathize to an extent, but she had a final act in mind. The two-toned female began to wade her way back to the shore, but as the water shallowed, she lowered herself down to her belly and rushed towards the dry ground like an orca trying to flush a loafing seal, hoping that the displaced water would produce a miniature tidal wave in her wake. Floundering around in water was more tiring than running around, however, and Aplomado didn't have too much left in her after that, either. She flopped like a beached dolphin and stretched out her forelegs, snapping half-heartedly at whatever part of Kincaid happened to be the closest.

Whether by Kincaid's own mercy or her fellow Queen's rescue, Oryx didn't know, all she knew was that she was free! And that meant that Kincaid was going to get it! Especially since he had to deal with Aplomado's assault on his tail. Oryx took her chance and began to nip and tug at the fur's on his haunch while he was distracted. However, Kincaid was quick to come back to wrestling with her as well! It was all a fun game. Playing in the water, nipping at each other, and Oryx yipping in sheer joy of the situation.

As it was, all good things had to come to a close as Kincaid apparently was tiring out. She couldn't really blame him as the gazelle-striped woman was also getting a bit tired. Her body was ready to take a nice nap out in the sun... but she saw out of the corner of her eye that Aplo was up to something. Mischievously she watched, a twinkle in her eye as she followed more slowly to find that the Desert Queen was dousing the man in water. Nice!

Oryx laughed playfully as she brought herself up on shore with the soaked Kincaid and soaked Aplo. She flopped down in the midst of her buddies. Had she just met Aplo today? If felt like they'd known each other for years after that! If the woman was on top of either of the canines she didn't care at all, nor did she care if she got anything nipped. She was just as prepared to make a dog pile and nap with the pair of them just fine.

Kincaid was no stranger to being ganged up on — just about every visit to the coast had gone like this, soaking wet pelts included. His girls had almost been bigger than him during this last visit, and the three of them had been far too much for him to handle.

He was similarly exhausted by these two, and simply laid back and took it when Aplomado came to splash him. His tail beat the ground rather weakly, and he pushed a paw in her face when she tried to nip at it, only to sit up and moment later and try to drag her up out of the water by her scruff. And then, of course, Oryx was there to harry him as well, and Kincaid could only flop back and hope they would soon grow tired of attack him, and hopefully curl up for a nap. . .
