Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Dawn opens her eyes to an unfamiliar place once again.
It's no longer the snowy tundra she last remembers being in again - how long ago was that? She sleepily blinks before raising her body up. Her bones pop from unuse, but she's sure she hasn't been sleeping here for moons. Either way, there's not much for her to do except for assess her current surroundings. There's water, and rocks - typical land things. With a further investigation, the water is deep, enough so that a wolf who can't swim would definitely drown. She's not planning on crossing that anytime soon even with the ability to swim. From smells, it seems like other wolves either frequent the place or live here. Something Dawn isn't particularly excited to find out. Perhaps they won't try to kill her on sight.

With a huff, she starts walking to where she assumes the nearest exit would be, or rather, follows the path of the water.

Always someone on her trail, she worried not of leaving where her mother would come down with a force. Always noticed and so — but continued on her path with the thought that someone always watched her back. But she wasn't naïve, trained and brought up to always watch her own pack, although there was packmates, she knew there would be times they would not be around. The scar on her nose, an accident when she was a child of an invader of a cat, was proof of so. Only much later did Hydra appear, and by then blood was drawn.

Her and her siblings grew, and by days would they thirst for more freedom.

Prowling through the north of the cove, Ara could smell a loner on the path. The territory was quite close to Empyrean ; watched and observed, as it was less desirable for a group to live near their lands. Less prey for themselves, fight for land and issues no one wanted.. Although curiosity as well, she hasn't met many beyond Empyrean.

Downwind Ara travelled, she was quietly stalking to find this stranger, hiding herself, but a branch crackled lightly.

Dawn does not know of the stranger following her at first. She's too focused on making sure she's not going to walk through pack borders somehow. Of course, there isn't a claim to be found here. Perhaps terrorizing a pack would be fun, but Dawn would rather keep herself alive this time. Even if her death before was not of an attack, and instead was the fault of her two sons' birth being too hard on her body.

She wondered how her sons would have reacted if they ever found out that they were a bargaining chip for rankings. Regardless, they probably never did find out if Sigrid had any say. Not that she knew, either.

A twig snapping makes Dawn turn, snarling.

"Who's out there?" ever aggressive.

The other discovered her, and Ara showed herself through the hiding of bushes. She wasn't a particulary large wolf, as she shared the same height as her mother, and would continue until maximizing that finesse average height. Though the one before her, was particularly large, near the toppling of West but far, far skinnier and leaner then any other. Grays and browns, matching of a winter day then the current summer.. She answered in aggression, but Ara remained calm.

Her tail rose and so did her head, and stared at the other with a golden gaze. She was quite close to Empyrean, just a territory away, Ara noted.

Dawn waits and watches until she spots movement. It's a child, smaller than Dawn herself and midnight coated. She waits to see what the kid does, and the dominant tail raising nearly makes the woman laugh. No words come, and she wonders if the child is attempting to claim this spot all on her own. Another amusing thought, but semi possible back where she lived before she awoke here. Territories all over were left unclaimed and unoccupied, an odd sight for a place so coated in wolves themselves, though she supposed most of the packs seemed to be overflowing with population. Regardless, Dawn is curious to see how this place compares, even with the loss of not having her family around.

The kid hasn't spoken yet, rather boring.

"Are you mute?" She's tempted to just keep walking along her own path and leave the kid behind. She smells like a pack, and trouble.

"No." Ara was awfully curious, she shown no hesitation of caution despite the smell of pack easing all over her pelt. A child to the boot, and her parents were protective if not overally, as so was majority of the family and Ostrega's. Tight-knit and would die for one another, it wouldn't be a surprise if another would come down from the mountains within a storm for just seeing herself interacting with such a strange.. Their movements and words spoke of minor aggressions, and still not a name she knew.

"Who are you?" so Ara inquired.

No.

Well, that answers that. Still, Dawn would rather not get on a pack's bad side without anyone there to back her up. She straightens up for now, still showing off that confident dominance because she totally can kick a kid's ass if she really wanted to. Dawn frowns when the girl asks for her name. She could give it, but worst case the girl's going to go back to her home and talk about an aggressive stranger potentially close - if her home even is close to this area. And close off packs to potentially talk to if she chose to attempt to join one.

"You first."

"Kanmuri." Ara said, as she gave but a persona of another name then the truth behind it. They were an aggressive person, not extremely to the point of an attack and yet their personality was unrefined, a definition of a barbarian. She wasn't sure if they'd be any use to the Empyrean name, much less want to join ; but being so close to the territory with their kind of disposition.. Ara didn't like it.
