Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

It was the old magicks talking to her, she knew. The stars often were their language when they intended to be heard by her, her mismatched gaze reading them easily -- but today, they sought attention. Shooting stars were often a good sign though it meant that the magicks had a lot to say and Kore smiled softly as the warmth of the setting sun touched against her spine.

In many ways a shooting star shower was the sign of good fortune, that good luck would come when you became the lucky viewer of such a phenomenon -- in other cultures the little Queen knew that they were believed to be the souls of the dead reminding their living loved ones that they are there and still with them.  Despite Kore being firm in her beliefs, no matter how strange they may seem to others, this was one of the few moments that she wasn't entirely sure what she believed past it being a language for the Magicks -- as she knew that something could be more than one thing yet she was happy to leave it open-ended past that.

She sighed wistfully, stars shining in her eyes as she watched them.

The stars were far easier to see in the open plains then they were in the forest. Though spaces to immerse herself in, often a frame would be set, where she would watch a stray star fall away and disappear to who knows where, or stars she could not glimpse elsehwere in a full view. At times there was the range though, giving that light ; but nonetheless an always mountain and forest would continue to glisten in so.

She had troubles, adjusting to suddenly forested area to a wide-open one. But the sky helped a lot. Seeing it all that there is endlessly beyond, feeling that if she ran and ran, there would be no ending to this. A wonder whether if her siblings were seeing these stars, if her newest half-ones were gazing in similar woes. .. Were they okay?

Her heart stirred lightly thinking that she abandoned those of the same fate as herself ; and yet.. And yet, selfishly, she knew she wouldn't go back, and would not make a different choice.

On this night, the sky rained there was no drops given, only the lights shining to the world itself, and she looked up with dazzled ruby-eyes, fair too amazed of what was seen. Some part of her was trying to follow where they fell, because it was the real question ; they were coming off the sky, where were they going?

Head to the clouds and moving forward.. Vermillion didn't realize Kore was in front of her.

Despite how invested she was in the display in the sky, Kore was not entirely tuned out to the world around her. Both nose and ears picked her up, the charming girl with the ruby-red eyes. "Vermillion," the Irish Queen would call softly, turning her head over her shoulder as her mismatched gaze caught her through the dark. The earth was illuminated by the night sky, the soft silver glow of the moon and stars, helping her see the growing girl more.

She too had been drawn here by the shooting stars and Kore couldn't blame her. It was entrancing. "It is beautiful, isn't it?" she asked serenely, tilting her head back to the sky as she continued to watch the wayward stars in their journey across the realms.

Vermillion jumped, the subtle calling of the red Queen brought her to earth. She would quickly turn her head, bright ruby's looking at her as she nodded earnestly, with a 'mhm!' A childish smile befitting of her age, a moment of comfort that was often foreign to the young Vermillion, but since coming to Greenwood, she started to grow more comfortable within her furs, even the whites that slashed across. The stars have blessed her with a serenity.

She looked up, a star making it's way across the sky, far, far away.. She wondered where it went — or what it was. The stars were such a mythical being, but in truth — what they were remained a mystery.

The girl remained fairly quiet in her time within Greenwood, as she had the first time that they had met but it did nothing to deter Kore. Some creatures were quieter, their nature not as loud or obvious. If she ever felt comfortable talking, then Kore would listen. She'd not force her. It only helped that the little Queen was able to do enough talking for them both.

"In some Cultures, shooting stars are a sign of good fortune," Kore revealed quietly, keeping her mismatched gaze upon the scene before them. "In others, they're believed to be the souls of the dead, reminding their loved ones that they remain with them still," It was interesting, learning how others perceived things and even her belief -- well, despite her thinking it was the truth, it reminded her of languages. Many had different languages that they spoke, so perhaps cultures were done in the same.

"Both interesting takes," she mused, wagging her tail against the earth.
