Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

private funeral for family. @Teodora is welcomed.
@Maral @Rohesia @Melrose @Selwyn @Weirs @Faust

Her son laid cold and small, dead to the ground and unmoving. Rot would soon take over and now they must tend to the service of a funeral. She already knew where to put him in the fast boneyard, where the son of a royal only deserved of the finest area. But they held already one death, and she felt this was much closer and hit more to.. Guilt ; Celnes only invited few, specifically her daughters and sons to join what this was, and the woman that the young looked up to. @Hawking would as well, but at the moment he still was not around.

She carried him upon her back, antler horns adjourning her neck heavily while motioning toward. A grand oak tree stood, beneath it a hollow void where flowers laid in the midst. Prepared early on by herself, as the group made way to the shallow grave to where the dearest Prince, Seaver, would be laid to rest.

She felt like shit warmed up, but still Maral made sure she was present for her little brother's funeral ceremony. The shadow gathered ahead of the others, fully expecting to play her own part in the preparation of his grave or the bearing of his body - and was surprised to find that her mother already had it all figured out.

Truthfully, the dismissal had hurt. The Queen had whelped and nursed Seaver, of course, but she hadn't cared for him - not in the way that Teodora or Warwick had. Maral, tired and dehydrated and grieving still, sat in the background like an outcast as the Déorwine matriarch brought her late son to his resting place. She couldn't help but wonder why her mother felt the need to put on such a show when she clearly hadn't given a damn about the boy's wellbeing before, and continued to seethe in silence as she waited for the ceremony to begin.

Mother decorated herself in antlers ; a show of care but none allowed besides them all. A silent service, as the young who followed and watched the Queen carry the dead brother. Frosted eyes gazed up to see his lifeless form ; brown, gray, closed eyes that were once another color apart from herself. He was closer to their mother in terms of looks, and yet touched lightly be a gray that none in the forest held.

A whisper of an unknown father, that they never know and could only assume was from him.

Slowly making their way to the forest, a heavy silence hung up besides the few chittering of birds. Sunlight graced lightly on this day, but all she could see was the darkened form of her fallen brother who done nothing.. Like them, and survived. Where though she was attacked by a sister nonetheless, but lived.

Yet he died.

Why did he die?

Poison that ran through the forest, and Faust was in a mourning silence, as her feelings were utterly in confusion and twirling within a abyss.

^^

It was still unbelievable that he was dead. The boy, so little and so young and dead. Teodora thought that this was the closest thing to feeling as if one her family had died (her brother, she refused to believe was dead along the way and in her mind, the dominion remained strong and living) and it was gut-wrenching to know. The maiden could not bring him back and she had failed him, failed him so unforgivingly that she almost wept at the thought. She had been happy to fill in where @Célnes had fallen short for her recent litter and she had gotten attached to the little babes, offering her love and her comfort yet she had failed to protect them where it counted.

Now... now they would feel their first heart break and she was unable to stop it. To mend their hearts.

The maiden had come, of course she had, her slender legs carrying her to them quietly. @Maral and @Faust there before her, where @Célnes stood amongst the trees with the boy upon her back. She worried her bottom lip as she kept her whimper swallowed, her ghostly gaze unwavering as she stood, guilt eating her up.

Mother had told him that he had been in charge of their protection. Yet Seaver was dead and Selwyn had been unable to do as mother had wanted of him, what he had wanted of himself and he stood, watching as he quietly came to stand between @Teodora and @Faust. @Célnes was mother and Teodora was... something close to that, he thought yet his loyalty remained between the two and Elkshire. It was complicated and not yet to the boy it was his normal.

What wasn't normal was the dead brother.

Selwyn grit his teeth as he stared at their Queen, their brother upon her back, limp and lifeless. He had failed the first task that had been given to him and now their brother was dead. He decided then that he would do better, the rest of his siblings would not suffer the same fate. He would do better. ^^

None of this felt right, but he went through the motions. He watched his decorated mother most of all, eyes stuck upon the strangely lifeless shape of his brother at times too. Unnerved, it twisted him up inside worse than he had known before.

His paws felt too heavy, his head spinning, and he was trying--willing himself--to keep it together step after step. Weirs tried to loiter closest to Faust, and by extension Selwyn too which was a natural pull. But one that was missing one axis suddenly, one of them who was less cursed, just by enough to have more hope. There was the magnitude of the wrong again, harsh to his heart.

It left him to wilt practically into Teodora's shadow. From there, he would try to absorb this horrible, awful thing. The waters are poison he recalled, full of dread, like it justified any of this to him as the queen brought them to a beautiful oak to lie his brother to rest.

as she looks at seaver's corpse, a waning spirit teased she was destined to be forgotten and die alone all the same. the elk's crown that cresecented her mother's bust didn't ease her either, as she wondered how they could pierce her, absently.
she didn't enjoy it, death. the afterwards was ineffable.

Carefully so, leading the group to the hollowed tree. Celnes would set him down inside of it, where lightly the grave was casted and.. The moss to cover what was once her son, officially officiating of his deceased time and the factor, that although she has lost kin, she had truly lost him. The face was solemn, but there was no tears as she stared at him for a few moments, heavy in breath. Paws felt heavy, the weight of the antlers on her neck felt especially, like her heart too was tied along it.

He died.

"He is with the High Elk now, and blessed by their welcoming. Young and taken too early.. He will surely be blessed within the next life." Choked lightly near the end, for guilt admittingly consumed her, although Celnes did show that. She couldn't say much about her own son, whose personality was so foreign that all she could so was bless him lightly and wish for the best.. As his grave, would eternally be by the tree.
