Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

a stream between Elkshire & Labrynthian

Her son, deceased. A funeral, another one to be prepared, but she.. She didn't have the heart to do so at the moment. To experience her own offspring to perish, one though favored, but hers, was.. She couldn't even feel whether despair or relief, but a bitterness altogether. For a stain to disappear, but her own son as well ; flesh and blood, a Deorwine. Was she more sad a pawn to be lost, or truly for her own son? Not even Celnes could tell where her sadness came from, but rather then dwelving into a despair, she threw herself away and into the troubles of what was happening to their waters.

The smell was still foul, and yet seemed just a little less, more diluted. The problem definitely looked to be coming from within Elkshire, and the Queen frowned.

It felt wrong, leaving Nymeria to lay moldering alone, but the Harbinger was gripped with a manic desire to see her avenged. This was not the Wolf's will.

He followed the scent of rot at a lope, the cloying decay growing stronger as he edged closer to the prey worshipers. And then the queen was there, a vision in mourning mahogany.

Madmortigan stopped short, his eyes ablaze, staring across the narrow strip of water. “My sister is dead. Poisoned by some kind of rot.”

It was a statement bordering on accusation. A bold conclusion, but he'd seen enough of Nymeria's concoctions to know the aftermath of a well-placed and lethal dose of death.

He appeared.

"My son has died from the same water." Though bold as he may be, she too threw it back that he was not the only one that suffered consequences. Though calm and stand-still, a cold serenity as she looked at the black and white leader. A pack who was also infected and the rivers poisoned ; the cause of so? Was a mystery to all.

But there was death in these forests now.

The end of his tail twitched, curling as he watched the Queen.

She brought forth a mournful revelation of her own and his mouth twisted in disgust, distraught at her own young loss of life.

“Do you think this is of natural cause? How long have you lived within these woods? Has the water ever turned putrid before?” Though his suspicions were high, it would be unscholarly of him to jump to conclusions.

"I have been here for more then a year — daring to step into two. For all the time I have been here, not once have we experienced so." Although troubles every so often rose from the temperate, it was nothing utterly serious enough to diverge into war. Natural disasters were rare, and only for a few days did they experience a flooding, many moons ago. But the damage was so minimal it was long forgotten — only remembered due to her young being lost during it at one point.

.. Momentarily her thoughts crossed to the wickedness that she brought forth ; white-sinned young and the memories of the Deorwine Elders, saying curse would be brought by those who bared white.

"We have yet to find anything." Surely they'd find where the rot was, but where?

The Harbinger fixed the mahogany Queen with a steady stare. “Do you have any enemies that might move against you and our lands in this way?”

She smiled, "who doesn't have a few enemies behind their shadow?" Ambition was a treacherous feeling, especially when one would dive into it and achieve what they so desire. A few among her peers who would love to see her bathed in blood, dead on before their feet — although a few, Celnes beat them to the punch, but retribution always found it's ways.. Even in this new land she seems to find various who don't agree to the nature of Elkshire ; but she had yet to see them since.

Though it did bring the question.. Did he have any enemies as well?

Madmortigan returned her smile, all teeth.

“Tell me of your enemies, Célnes. So that we might be on the lookout for the perpetrators. Alas, I have not been in this land long enough to soil relations.” The ball, and the blame, was in her court. His sister had died because of her.

“Name them and they will be enemies of Labyrinthian, too.”

"There are a few that float, but only two whose names still make my blood boil. A man named Flynn, and his lover, Meissa." They unknowingly, were not even near the land or their home anymore. She never did discover their haven, or the blood they had created.. Just that they existed, and Celnes were the only names she had as true enemies of the pack.

Though when she thought of more.. Her gray son surely did come to thought, but she wondered whether he truly would risk poisoning even his family, despite the acknowledgement Warwick gave, that he disowned them both.

 “Very well.” He rose.

“I am sorry for your loss, Celnes.” As he was sorry for his.

“They will pay.” With that he left the Elkshire queen at the riverbank, turning to stalk back into the shadows of the Ruins.
