Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

all welcome. in the space between hraf and philos

Cold, biting and snapping.

Her joints ached as if she doubled her age. Limbs stiff and not inclined to cooperate. She looked as terrible as she felt. Fur wild, unkempt, tufts stuck up haphazardly in a wild woman way. She looked like someone from the heaven’s had blood drip down onto the earth. A crimson blotch on a snowy landscape.

When she stood, the world swirled around in her vision. Pain in her skull rattled and throbbed with enough violence to cause her to sit once more.

Frustrated, pained, defeated.

She could not stand to be such and began to stagger step her way towards a trail. Each inch of her body protested. Hunger and pain demanded to be remedied at once.

Her ebony nose had been inspecting the air for either prey or carcass when she happened across the stranger. She had been padding through the snow directionless, yet to find a sign of game. The scent of wolf seemed to be the only thing the wind would bring her. Moonlit eyes scanned the area between the sparse stands of white-capped firs. Footsteps from behind had her ears swiveling backward before her head turned to look over her shoulder. Eventually they fell upon the splotch of copper, a singular drop of blood staining the snow.

Weary limbs seemed to be carrying them toward the paw-prints left in Arnarkla's wake.

The wraith pivoted to point herself in the stranger's direction. She only let out a soft chuff by way of announcing herself because the wolf appeared unwell. Perhaps her faculties were impaired. Arnarkla was disinclined to startle.
