Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Euphemia was brought to the world, she mewled softly by the time of her birth and now her awaiting days of growth. Twinset to another, identical in every-way except for the eventual future of their drifting eyes ; but for the meanwhile stayed closed and shut, as the only instincts that came was to rest, eat, and yearn for their mothers love. There was others within the den, where a fight of that need came but she didn't try too hard, for one way or another, that substance came to her.

The drifting cold air brought shivers, but never were they left alone for very long, always one body or another foreign one altogether, brought familial warmth. She always pleasantly snuggled close, looking for anything that brought such a peace to her baby-self.

And she, sneezed lightly.

Naturally, she could be found next to her twin.

Arched almost protectively around her sister in a half-moon shape, Aurelia was a dusky little thing painted in shades of grey and charcoal, presently taking a break from her frantic eating to collapse into a silent slumber. She rarely cried outright, unlike her littermates, but instead made a series of whimpering, earnest little yip-whines, as if she had something very urgent that she wished to do or at least communicate but lacked the means to do so.

Finding it fruitless, she settled in next to Euphemia, curled like a soft croissant and molding to the shape of her twin's warm body.

Someday she would run about on busy little legs, but for now, she slept.

^^In his past life, the life before Canis, Archon had been the only brother of a large litter, and being the runt, in addition. He had four or five older sisters who he had, admittedly, not thought of much, until the arrival of his new baby sisters. How was it that Archon had gone from being the undesirable runt who had inherited his father’s crown, to being the oldest of four? Or was it really three, since two of them looked alike?

Archon had never seen twins; never heard of twins, and thought such an idea; such a concept of someone looking like someone else was incredible. So, unless there was some reason for Tiberius to keep him out of the den - in which he’d had to chase him out - Archon had helped himself to spending his time with his sisters, whenever he wasn’t with Hawking.

As one of them had sneezed - Archon had never known sneezes to sound so cute - he slowly approached them and laid near them, with some breathing room between them, with his head on his paws, staring at them, silently, in awe.

They were his children.

His.

Theirs.

No one else's.

His first litter, the little lights of his life. He had a position his own father hadn't been able to stand in, dead before his time and he had little to model his own parenting technique after. All that was known that the chief was particularly on edge since the arrival of his little girls -- not willing to let anyone other than their mother near by. It was something primal in him that demanded they knew only safety by the only man who would rage hell to ensure their safety.

It was... it was tough, being Chief, a father, a protector, a man in a relationship. His only saving grace was that they weren't a particularly large Pack as it stood in time and the titan could trust @Genghis to ensure the safety of their borders whilst Tiberius sought food to bring to @Olive.

She had done so well and he was prouder than he could ever have been after what she had managed. They were so delicate and little, two twins, a dappled little lady and a girl draped in darkness, similar to his own coat. It was something possessive that made him stalk through the Vale with the caribou calf dangling from his mouth, shoulders taut as he felt the need to return to Olive and his children.

Only when he arrived, their den nestled soundly, it was not Olive who loomed. It was Archon. The boy had returned, a deer in tow and @Kuhn at their side. He had gone through similar situation as Olive had only he hadn't been their only hostage as Olive had been. Tiberius' silvery brows furrowed as he fought with the aggression that clawed at his throat, tightening his teeth on the calf as he felt strange to see someone else by his girls.

A brother to them most certainly but they were his. They were new, so small and so delicate that he could trust no one with them -- only Olive. Kuhn came quickly up on that list, second and last. The feline was fearsome and he would, he knew, protect Tiberius' daughters if the need had risen. Tiberius couldn't say the same for Archon, the boy holding no particular skills but it wasn't quite that which made him falter.

It was the way he hadn't been spoken to, asked about who he felt comfortable being around his children within days of their birth. He swallowed against the calf as he shouldered forward, stepping past where Archon lay near the girls and settled the calf in the cornet, ripe for Olive's return. Tiberius stared down at the nestled girls and felt the constriction of his throat; admiring their beauty. They had been created from love and adoration, a living proof of the love between their parents. He leaned down to brush his tongue over each of their heads, lingering with each kiss as if to press his love into them without a harmful pressure.

The titan breathed as he would lower himself to his belly, curling his hulking frame around his girls. Tiberius didn't know what he was doing, he knew nothing of being a father and he knew less about how to handle the emotions that waged within him regarding conflicting thoughts.

He glanced up to Archon. ^^

Some time after returning from the battle with the boars, it became more apparent that Olive was getting closer with each passing day.  One day the scent of blood meant that the day had come.  The predator knew that the wolves would be vulnerable for awhile.  Spending his time lurking around the periphery he kept himself close but mostly out of sight.  If he was needed he would be there, giving the mystic woman and her Titian the space for their new family.

Though on this day curiosity got the best of the cat, brining him close to the den.  The sound of mewling pups echoed from within.   Sneaking a glance he got a look at the small wolves.  Apprehensively looking away, he sat back on his haunches outside the den looking out at the mountain expanse, tail flicking behind him.

The days following the birth of the puppies were hectic, beautiful, and utterly exhausting. There were plenty of other souls to care for Duskguard and visit her prayer altar in her stead, but there was absolutely no one who could shoulder the weight of motherhood for her. Perhaps the only being that came close was Tiberius, seeing as he too had become a parent, and that certainly came with it’s own weight, responsibilities and demons; but Olive could only speak for herself, and the all-consuming nature of having brought four new lives into the world.

How had she never before realized the incredible weight placed upon mothers in those first, few, vital days? Of course, she knew the types of foods and supplements that she would recommend to those in her position, and she knew that is was a welcome support to shush newborn pups while the mother slept, but the midwife hadn’t any clue what the experience was of having babies tug at her at all hours of the night; the feeling of emptiness in her womb ; the intense cramping as her soft body returned down to size. Despite knowing everything about puppy development and healing from birth, she felt entirely unsure what do to besides feed her children, so she did so with gusto —

But now that her four mewling babes were one the outside of her body, Olive was overcome with feelings that things were out of her hands, and she could only protect them to a certain extent. Before, anything that wanted to get to them absolutely had to get through her first. They were a lovely secret, sheltered within her body, that she (and she alone) had a physical connection to. It was something they would always share, but now that such an innate connection was severed, the woman could not help how she mourned it. All others around d her were awash in the beauty that was new life, but the postpartum mother felt sorrowful in ways that felt impossible to justify, or describe to others.

She rarely left her den in the days following, but she did every so often, to slake her thirst. It was upon her return from one such venture — the pups weren’t alone, mind you, they were with their older brother — when she saw the large form of Kuhn hulking outside the awning entrance of the nursery. She drifted closer, her steps light, her body feeling entirely weak and spent. Within the den, she espied the forms of Tiberius and Archon (no longer Duskguard’s newest parent/child duo). The woman huffed from the exertion of traveling to and from the waterfront, but now she was here and saw that all was still. She passively glanced up to Kuhn, unable to help the warm glow in her gaze, surrounded by so many things she that she loved.

“Do you want to meet them?”

Cuddled twinset to another, although she could feel the stirring forms of another somewhere near the open side of herself, Euphemia does not know who they were, much less herself. A child fresh to the world, who could not even speak of her name or know of if attempted, for eyes firmly shut, and the only indication of life that she was, was the occasional soft mewlings, but never a true scream, just a calling to mother, of what was wanted.

Although a minor disturbance within the den of the flushing of wind coming through and out by the various foes that entered this mother's delight. Euphemia, stirred lightly within her slumber against her sibling, and pushed closer to embrace that marshmallow warmth.

Also skippable   <3

Warmth enveloped her in the form of father's embrace as he fit himself snug around his little daughters. Dalmatia squeaked at the contact despite the gentleness of the Chief's movements as he reached to hold the girls close to his body. She was a skittish thing, fragile and delicate in those first days of life, but quickly settled into the change.

^^This was entirely new territory for Archon. He’d never experienced children so smol and did not recall the moments of his own birth to know the proper etiquette; nor was he wise enough to act properly, or to simply ask what was expected. He had merely assumed that he would be welcomed and trusted with the children because Olive was his mother, whom he now shared with four little girls.

Four little girls that were Olive’s real children. What did that mean for Archon and the rest of Dusgard? He shared no blood with Olive; just an emotional connection — one that he did not have with anyone else, save for Hawking, but that was a different type of love.

Tiberis arrived, taking his seat amongst them, and curling himself around them protectively. It was a picture perfect moment: a father with his little girls.. in a family that, Archon felt, didn’t have room for him anymore.

Tiberius looked to him, and Archon lowered his gaze from him and the girls, tail slowly coming to tuck itself between his legs as he slowly moved backward in a silent debate[if he ought to leave the den or not.
