Sleep came easily to Callahan these days, his body tired from frequent excursions in the range to tracking down where Rhett had gone. The man's sudden disappearance hurt Cal in a way he didn't ever want to feel. It was a betrayal, a breaking of the sacred binds of trust. He could only chalk it up to the man not wanting to have the burden of responsibility on his shoulders. For whatever reason, Rhett was gone, and Cal wasn't going to let it stop him from striving for his future.
However, the man didn't expect to wake up in a dream world. His dreams in the past had sent him home, gave him a taste of what he once had. The taste of whiskey lingered on his tongue when he woke in the meadow, the laughter of his family rang quietly in his ears as birdsong filled the air. Despite his acceptance of his life, Callahan missed his past. He missed his freedom, the rush of a good heist, and most of all, his family. Every day felt like another step away from them, a slow-growing chasm that refused to let him hang within two worlds. No, it wanted him to pick one, and it seemed that it would soon be picking for him.
Callahan dragged himself onto his feet to carefully explore this new world he had awakened in. It was obviously not the valley, that he was sure of. But the expansive spread of grass seemed similar enough. Did his mind dream up something new? As the man continued on, his eyes noticed a somewhat familiar shape in the distance. The soft fur resembled the lady that usually accompanied him, and he paused. If it were a dream, was he wanting something? The answer was yes, but he didn't want to admit it. Cal was sweet on Miss Bunny, but he weren't sure she'd feel the same. He was an old brute, and she was spring incarnate. She was soft, delicate. And he was rough, ugly. But in a dream, there would be no hesitations.
