Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

this is shortly after the boar kidnapping of Valeska, and the injury of Mordecai. These individuals so far have been 'stolen', Archon, Hawking, Serenity & Valeska.

Her tail flickered as she roamed the land, an estimate of what these boars were doing, and how far where their terror reaching. Upon the coast they roamed, but she knew not of their more recent terrors especially. But Vendrussel was wary, they were mammals with intelligence, and the more that there were, the more terror they could cause. At the very least, the Ford was safe upon their isle, but if they ventured to the beach.. It was like they were land-locked. She sought to scout momentarily, seeking outwards and unintentionally going a bit wayward within that distance.

The smell of Elysium came to her nose, was she perhaps close to their land? Vendrussel in truth didn't know how close she was toward them. She didn't even know where they were except somewhere bound to the mountains. Although she didn't she was so close to their territory, that surely one of there wolves were out? The smell of Valeska was long gone, but she could smell the lingering of boars and..

"hey, hey!" Vendrussel rushed forward, the body of a mass of brown was upon the floor. Blood tinged the air lightly, but he was surely unconscious with wounds. There was no mistaken that for one, this was an Elsyium wolf, and two, the smell of boars held upon his pelt. But the trail of them was long cold, she could only smell the evidence near him and not elsewhere. The best that the dragoness could do was nudge him, an attempt to wake him up for he breathed — he was alive.

She looked around.. And howled. Although could not take him to Dragonford, which was across more mountainous terrains, the best she could do was bring him back to his lands and question ; what had happened? For the meanwhile she tried to call any wolves from her own land, such as @Absinthe. She was a bit far away, but surely one or two would be around somewhere, investigating as well of this.. Strange aggression from prey.

"Hey there buddy," she coo'd at @Mordecai, "come on, wake up. We'll get you help."

He was dead to the world, laying on the ground with his wound bleeding and then clotting as time went on. He did not move, was unable to move... until he was nudged and disturbed by the kindly stranger. His eyes opened blearily as he came back to the world. "Huh..?" He sounded confused and felt confused. What had happened? Who was this wolf? She was a blue color, very pretty, but not anyone that he knew. What was she saying?

 Get help?

 Did he need help?

He tried to move and felt like he was weighted down by a ton of bricks, he wanted to sleep or maybe eat... Maybe he could find Harper or Vale--

His eyes opened wide, everything flooding back as he thought of the white wolf. He snapped upright, up to his paws as he cried in a panic, "VALESKA!" He felt a rush of lightheadedness at the fierce motion as he overbalanced and then tumbled back down to the ground with an "oof". Fatigue and bloodloss made him a bit wobbly as he tried to push himself back up, stumbled, and fell again. He growled to himself, annoyed that he couldn't get himself going.

"I don't need help! I need'ta get that boar!" He tried to get up again, his legs shaking as he tried to haul himself to his paws as he looked around. He couldn't find her body! Had the boar made good on his words and eaten her? Or skinned her? Or or... "THAT BOAR ATTACKED US! HE KILLED..." He choked on the words, feeling the weight of failure fall on his shoulders.

He felt like crying... How was he going to face Harper?

His tattered ears made a motion as if to pin themselves in shame, but he winced, realizing that one of them was --even more-- damaged now. "He killed her... I failed Elysium... I need to go find the boar and kill it to avenge her." Her whimpered, eyes becoming misty as the full weight of his failure fell about him. How could he even call himself a guard if he couldn't even guard his pack mates? What kind of knight was felled by a pig?

The boar? Vendrussel narrowed her eyes, although he was in a disarray to what happened she pieced together his words: a boar came, it attacked, it stole Valeska. She did not see the amounts of blood wrapped around them, nor the slain body of the Priestess of Elsyium, it brought some relief, that there was a possibility. She remembered, how the boar demanded of her of food and so, where although threatened, it seemed it had bigger plans for something else.

Did it take her for the same reason?

The dragoness attempted to put a paw on him, wanting to apply a bit of strength to keep him down, "she isn't dead," although certainty wasn't there, she made sure it was through her voice. She can believe it, even if it may not be the truth, "there is no blood, nor' a body. The boars have her. They attacked my own some time ago, they want something." There wasn't much time.

She could imagine how he felt ; a shame of realizing what had been done, the fact he was here, fallen to the ground while she was casted elsehwere. Although could sympathize with him and try to counsel — Vendrussel knew the time was dire, and they did not have those precious minutes to consul and try to steer the man in the direction that should be. Instead she was resolved within her words and look, speaking calmly at him, as she nudged his body.

"We must go to your pack, tell what happened, gather forces — my own Ford will help, they are further away, at the beach."

"No... I saw her..." Yes, this new she-wolf hadn't seen the way that Valeska had hit the rock. He knew she was dead. He'd seen lots of dead things before... "They just want to hurt us..." He said, hanging his head sadly... upset. The threats that that fat boar had made, his words, his actions... it seemed only to cause the maximum amount of hurt.

He probably should have cared more that an unknown she-wolf was within their territory but for the moment his ire was focused directly on the boar. Especially since this wolf was trying to help. "Yeah... alright..." Might as well. If she had additional forces, that would only help them out. Then, using her to help support him. He would lead the way back to Elysium.

"You must believe," she said as she picked his ass up, had him lean on her shoulder and started to march forward. To the realms of Elysium, while at the same time attempting to sooth is wary soul. He believed so well he had failed and that she was dead, but Vendrussel thought otherwise. She was resolved that the Priestess must be alive, for if the boars had negotiated with her ; then surely they had other means as well. They were.. Smarter then that, although pained for her to think, these boars weren't mindless prey.

"We will find her, together."
