She'd long given up on the prospect of home. Wherever that was. Instead, Vesta was rather taken with these wild lands, spending much of her days exploring its most nameless and sacred places. The mountains had provided an endless adventure, whose ancient spires reached like fingers into the sky, caves carved by thousand-year-old rivers. Sometimes, the grander adventures were in the most beautiful of places; a hollow nestled in the valley, abloom with wildflowers left untouched from the snowpacks above. White-barked aspen trees surrounded the small grove Vesta found herself lounging in, sprawled across a flat-facing rock, warmed by the retreating sunlight that dappled through the canopy above. The blissful golden hour alit everything in an orange and yellow hue, but the mountains were quick to swallow the sun, and soon was this place greeted with the chill of high altitude at night.
Vesta shivered.
A soft breath exhaled from her lips as she awoke. The sudden darkness that drew into the hollow disoriented her momentarily, but as her eyes adjusted, she could see the subtle glow of moonlight off snow from the mountains. She stretched, and yawned, but did not quite yet want to leave this place; thus, she remained, pulling herself to a sit on the very rock she'd been lounging, her hazel eyes peering through the trees and the mountains of the far beyond.
