Sleep came easy that night. It was easier knowing they had the security of a roof over their heads and borders to ward away stragglers, but more importantly, the rounds she had been making across the territory left her exhausted each night. Usually, her dreams were dark and void-like. A settled silence that would carry her to daybreak. Other nights she relived memories she wished she could forget.

Tonight she crashed out fast, sprawled on her side and eventually rolling to her back as the familiar stone floor fell away to something...softer. She thought nothing of it in her unconscious state until something heavy crushed her chest and a growing awareness for the perfume of out-of-season flowers hit her with the full force of a perfume department.

Groggy, she blinked open her eyes, annoyed to be woken up early until she found Kyo pressed against her, his nose quite litterally at the tip of her own “KYO—?” Heat crept her cheeks far faster than she'd ever admit, although it was a dice roll as to if it was frustration or fluster that rose her voice.

Some days, Kyo really knew how to push her buttons, but this was a new low. He answers almost as if he had been waiting for her to wake, tone nonchalant about the current way his body pressed to hers. Before she can muster a reply, his weight comes crashing down, crushing in every definition of the word. Though if it hadn't caught her off guard, it might be more akin to a heavy weighted blanket.

Immediately, she tries to wiggle free, only able to spare a foreleg as her breath leaves with a 'puhh'. Kei forces her paw into his face, an attempt to get his fat ass to move or, at the bare minimum, pull away from her own. It was almost impressive how he found ways to steal all but a sliver of her personal space. It was more impressive that he hadn't resorted to this sooner, though he would have had to catch her first.

“Get— off—” But despite the plea, she wholly expected he wouldn't cooperate. Every muscle strained as she tried to shift at least to her side so she might claw her way out, but she'd quickly find herself trapped, unable to even rotate.

In a flash, heat filled the shadow's cheeks. Thank the gods Kyo would never be able to see that. Her nose wrinkled in faux disgust, but if she was being truthful, it was more akin to embarrassment that was given away by the fold of her ears against her skull. Kei forced a scoff and rolled her eyes, “Right now? Yeah, kinda—” He could move her paw all he wanted, but it wouldn't stop her from bappin' him in the face wherever he guided it. With a final shove to his smug face, she'd resign and let her leg fold back to her chest, looking rightly annoyed with a flick of her ear, even if she could feel the heat in her face radiate. “Stop enjoyin' this.”

For a moment, she thought she caught something strange in his stare. It lingered, lacking the usual edge or begrudging weight Kyo seemed to carry in favor of something warm amongst his reemerging cheeky behavior. It makes her burn, earning a scoff as Kei directs her attention outward to the odd dream. It was vibrant and full, bursting with details she hardly felt painted the images that usually greeted her with slumber.

She can feel Kyo shift beneath her as a question challenges her own. Does it matter? Maybe it didn't... In the rush that accompanied her awakening, Kei feared something had happened. That they had been whisked away much like the souls that washed along their shores. This felt different, though. It was a perfectly clear image, yet she couldn't deny the clouds that clung to her mind like any other dream. And if it was a dream...

Why the fuck was she dreamin' about Kyo.

“Guess not.” Is all she musters in a last-ditch attempt to hold her composure. A million and one questions berate her, making her face hot in a way she hadn't felt in years until she quickly scrambles, slides off the fang's chest to weightless legs.

Kyo intends to make her flush hard to forget, as the second she breaks free of him, a paw trails behind to catch her. It makes her freeze, and though she has every intention to keep moving, she wouldn't yet shake him. “What, you expect me to lie around all day?” She speaks with a light scoff, something that leans more questioning than judging, and yet she wouldn't turn to meet his gaze for him to be entirely sure.

She should move. Whatever haze filled her head wasn't enough to break all reason, and yet she couldn't find it in her to move her paws. Because why not? If this was a dream, then it wasn't like anything mattered. It wasn't like Kyo would ever know unless he could suddenly read minds. It wasn't like...she was entirely opposed.

The dragon shoots him a stare at the blunt of his initial answer. Sure, she didn't want to busy herself with work constantly, but she wasn't really good at lazing about either. Not when she could find a game to play, show off to the young acolytes, or take to her own to see nearby villages and the people that lived in them. But Kyo doesn't shove expectations down her throat the way her mother always had. It's a want, one he leaves inviting, either as a polite bridge or a quiet plea.

Kyo wasn't one to be quiet, but he sure as shit wasn't subtle with his chosen kindness.

It wears away at her walls like wind on stone, slow but constant in some pressing desire to break her until he found a place past her defenses. She couldn't say she didn't like it. The feeling of being wanted. That someone actually wanted you around. Someone who wouldn't leave or turn on you, even when tooth and tease were casually tossed between them.

Kei withholds her sigh but not the roll of her eyes as her paws are dragged to face Kyo again. “Fine.” It was just a dream anyway.
