Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She wanted to touch them.

To feel their presence beside herself as she roamed closer and closer to the sky. The stars twinkled, the galaxy before her, and white eyes of her own gazing with a wonder. She travelled up, through the jaws of the crag and to the pillars above as the forest beneath her breezed lightly in a midnight silence. They ached, her body felt unused to such a terrian but she wanted to get closer, feel as if Miriam was apart of the heavens as they shone brightly down.

She panted softly, reaching the highest peak she could find. Her head to the sky as she watched it within the music of the mountains.

Gaited steps dug into the ground, flicking silver powder out beneath her. The mountains was no place to run, but Aruna was familiar enough with such terrain and had traversed the mountains frequently. Difficult to deter, the midnight princess loped upside the cliff, meticulously placed paws safeguarding her body.

The sky's flank was littered with flecks of light, shimmering stars dancing in the darkness. They beckoned Aruna near, and she would not deny them. Close to the mountain's pinnacle, Rue slowed to a steady walk, snow hugging her legs and clinging to her fur. The smallest of smiles played on her lips, a rare sight saved for nights like these, among the stars. It was not until the she-wolf had reached the top she recognized the familiar shape of another wolf; Miriam. "Excuse my intrusion, I wasn't aware I was to have company."

She gazed to the sky, the constellation of Aries held high above them and she connected such dots ; and wondered how ancestors could make such looks to above? Although she tried, what was that constellation didn't look to be like a ram.. Though fables tied closely to it, and the stars shinned brilliantly when someone shared it's tale. She wondered whether the Goddess too, formed the heavens above, what shined brightly as it so. Would there be a day, where she could ride to the stars?

Such thoughts were interrupted by another ; submerged within a similar silver yet dyed like a blue. Miriam smiled at the other, "hello there. Lovely night, isn't it?" the starlit maiden said, as she then faced her white-eyes back to the shinning sky above.

Promptly halting in her place, Aruna waited for the lavender maiden to acknowledge her arrival prior to joining her side. Her ears shifted as the woman spoke, her mellow voice easing Aruna's tension. Exhaling lightly, the heiress nodded in agreement, padding to the other's side. "Isn't it always?" She had always had a special connection with the night, thriving in the darkness compared to the day.

"An ever-existing reminder of those we've lost still watch over us." — to her, atleast. Raised to believe those who die honorably are sent to Valhalla and are present at night; she had no doubt the Stormguardians' who fell were there now.

"Do you believe that the stars are our fallen sisters and brothers?" Miriam asked as she looked to the other curiously. She too had heard some maidens believe so ; that the sky represents souls who entered the summerlands in an endless pleasure once they fulfilled their soul to the highest enrichment. The stars twinkled lightly, as the galaxy before it dazzled them in a beauty that was known as the milky way ; an amusing way, and maybe touch it's name reasoning another time. For now was the moment to enrich one self in its portrait with anothers presence.

She too wondered, though what these stars entailed. Were they truly brothers and sisters?

"Miriam, right? We met back in the mountains with the oak and ivory maidens, Ciri and Haleia," The starborn recalled; the woman had left a pleasant impression on her, though fleeting. "— Aruna." She introduced, voice lilting with a foreign gentleness.

"Of course, how could I not? Even if it wasn't real, it's a comforting thing to think they still linger." She mused, eyes skyward. "All who have fallen watch from Valhalla, especially those you share a connection to." Pale light masked the sky, adorning the deep blues. From there her home, her family watched her continue when they couldn't. They lived through her, carrying a legacy she would likely be unable to fulfill.

"I am pleased you remember me." Distracted by above it took a moment to realize she had in-fact met of this woman. Faintly so in a quiet one, where she came across a variety of woman within minor discussion of the land. A pleasure of sophistication, and she dreamed once more to have a tea-party with fellow maidens once more. Although a mixture of gender was always there, there was always something enlightening and enchanting when it was just of the hearty woman.

"Many have theories of what the stars entails. Legends woven in the sky, fallen sisters and brothers etched in eternity, or even Gods, watching over us.." All the lores and wishes to be, "and yet once upon a time, someone had mentioned that it's just a billion different suns, far, far away." The Orchid although had it's own believes, particularly that legends are woven into the sky, always made sure to teach their wolves of all sorts of different stories and cultures. Knowledge was quite important to not be ignorant, and they spread and more ; to achieve a fulfilled soul to reach the Summerlands.

"Nonetheless, beauty for us to look at." None could say for certain what they are, but admire the twinkling look above.
