Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She couldn't remember anything... a flash of light. And then, nothing but cold.

She felt frozen, her body shivering but unable to get warm. She'd never felt cold like this, not even in the nighttime of he desert. It chilled her to her core. All the way down to her bones.

She was wet, that was why. She crawled out of the water and further onto the shore... but that was all she could manage before she collapsed onto the ground and curled into a tiny yellow shivering ball of fur. She was of the desert, never would she have ever imagined she'd end up here. At the moment, she couldn't even ponder where here was.

The falling day into night was a dreary one, rain from the heavens and seaspray mingling. He walked his beaches with an accute awareness in knowing they had enemies of both predator and prey among them now.

He saw a rounded ball of yellow in the distance. What was that? Curled up like that, he couldn't be certain though it smelt like wolf to him, his eyes seemed to betray him. Which sense was correct?

Ragnar draws near but keeps his distance, woofing out to this wet thing on the sand.

Her entire world was cold and pain and misery. Was she alone? Had she woken up here just to die?

Then she heard a sound, a soft bark.

It felt like torture and the hardest thing ever to lift her head, but she did. She turned her amber eyes onto a golden wolf. One of the biggest wolves she'd ever seen, bulky too. But she didn't have time to ponder that... Instead, she could only think of two things.

First, that she was not alone.

Second, that she wanted... no... needed his help.

Would he do so? Her pride was in tatters and she had no room for stubbornness to reject another wolf's aid in this moment.

"P-p-pl-plea-ssee... h-h-h-he-hee...p" It was all that she could get out as she lifted her head and a paw towards him. It was all she could manage before she flopped down onto the sand. Shivering, miserable once more. She closed her eyes as she trembled. Would he just leave her?

Aarkron still tried to keep to his own damn business on most days - caring for the pregnant women whenever he could. Dropping off herbs at the mouth of their den in the mornings before heading out for another trip to the moors or beyond for a multitude of reasons. Okay well mostly two reasons, food and herbs, but to him it was much more complex than that.

But it seemed these days he was getting into the habit of sticking his nose into places he would generally deem, not his business. Ragnar was talking to someone, someone who had seemingly collapsed right in front of him that drew the medic to them. Gold and blue scanned the woman as he approached on heavy paws, focussed more on their little visitor and looked her over further before dropping himself around her.

His weight would be crushing, but he did his best to prop himself up and not completely shatter her ribs or spine. “Her fur is short... not built for the Northern weather.” He'd say finally before turning his gaze to Ragnar, wondering what he would want to do here.

A tiny head lifts, bright yellow eyes which reminded him of Sindri, looked up to him. A single paw extended, begging for help. “It's okay, I got you...” He soothes, moving in closer towards the little bundle as he does so. It is not long. Not at all, that Aarkon is on scene, as though the Medic just miraculously poofs onto scene where he is needed.

“Your right.” He says to the man with agreement. There was little time for beating around the bush, not if they wanted to save her from hypothermia. “Keep still, let me get her onto you. We need to get her under cover.” Ragnar then reaches for the thickest part (though there was little thickness to any of her) of the little woman's scruff and heaves her up onto the heavy shoulders of Aarkon. If they could get her to the forest or into a cavern she would be out from the whipping winds and cold tides of the sea.

Ragnar lifts up straight, shifting to stand close to Aarkon in order to straighten Oryx out should she teeter. Ragnar's muzzle lifted to the winds, eyes on the Leviathan islands out to sea from their beaches. “How do you think she washed up here?”

It seemed as if she wouldn't just be left for dead. Or eaten. Cannibals, she hadn't even thought of that till now. In any case, she felt warmth for a moment as a large white wolf draped over her. She sighed in relief but he shivering was still going. Then, there was talking and she felt her body being moved. She couldn't have fought it even if she'd wanted to. She was dead weight. Her limbs leaden and useless. She was a doll for them to move around as they needed. "Th-tht-th-th..." She couldn't even get the words out anymore, her lips felt heavy and useless.

The little woman was extremely easy to carry as Ragnar tossed her onto his back carefully to be brought deeper into their nest and to a warmer place where she can recover. “I have a few pelts we can use.” Some he has gathered through hunts to help make those in distress more comfortable, the sick and those in shock in particular as well as the pregnant women who will need all the comfort they could get soon.

Once she was safely on his back, the woman stuttered a bunch of nothing - to which Aarkron replied with a swift nudge of his shoulder from under her. “Shut up.” Not the kindest thing to say to someone in distress, but she needed to save her strength and focus on warm thoughts. They would talk later, mostly her and Ragnar about whatever she needed to spill. Right now it was a matter of possible life or death.

“Ask her that later.” Taking long hurried strides, he had just the one thing on the mind and it was to get her heated up. There was just no time for them to ponder the ifs and how's right now.

Ragnar's eyes narrowed, a rather 'Bruh' expression given when be told the young little wolf to shut up. Aarkron was quite the bullish fellow, oddly so for his line of work when typically those should be comforting. Physically, Aarkron was good at his job. Easing distressed others emotionally? Not so much. But Aarkon would work on that- hopefully anyway.

Ragnar for the time being would remain quiet, following quickly at Aarkron's side as the moved the stranger to a safe and warm place...
