Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported

For one moment they were swimming in the depth. With the pod and continuing so, singing songs of their people and passing by the vultures of fish that lunged for any of the meals that missed their enormous mouth. Not the whales cared or mind, although they tried, no pinch could hurt them so and only continued within the void to sucker up their daily meals.

When a whale sleeps, their head faces up and slumbers into the abyss. But when she woke up, she was not in the familial water lock of an ocean, but felt her body tipping down. She moaned, loudly for the land to hear as the sky grazed her sides and she felt awfully dry. Where was she? The ocean was not around as she gazed, and the arms that tried to grasp and move was locked into.

She fell.

 And fell.

   And fell.

   And she died.

Beneath the mass that was a Sperm Whale were the cries of unknowing coyotes. They gazed up to the waning of the whale, but alas they were too late. Several, now smashed and long dead beneath the mass that she was. The impact couldn't be said whether she felt anything or not, but by the time she landed, much of her flesh was spewed out onto the land, seeping into the kingdom of cats and otherwise the plains altogether.

In the middle of a land without the sea, a whale fell from the sky, and died just like that.

She heard it, she could see it in the sky itself. Who could miss such a mass creature, wailing in the sky as it fell down slowly into the earth? Through clouds and Uriel's horror she watched this beast, resound within the plains and even the long drop below could she hear the final bang. The ground shook lightly, she was far, but not far enough to be without the slight buckling of her knees as she fell down in a sheer horror.

She ran toward it ; the smell of blood was so high within the air she shriveled her nose and stopped dead in her tracks before being even close to. Yet with the plains being so flat, she could simply just see it within a long distance range. Uriel couldn't understand what happened or even why, especially for so long that the area was so peaceful. In the north it was strange, mountains came and went and forests renewed, and the sky itself even tore apart for beasts!

But now before her, did something fall from the sky and died on impact. It didn't move. It's flesh spewed about, and she had trouble approaching. Lightly, she looked back to see if @Niklaus was still around, for she knew not if this was just her imagination or.. But the smell of blood, was too real.

"THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?!" Came the call of the crass tomcat as he trotted up and around the elaborate display of blood and guts to the golden she-wolf. He knew this had been the den of that irritating as fuck coyote but now? Ha! Who had the last laugh now?

He knew a lot of wolves would have no trouble talking to a "prey" animal once they spoke but he kept a healthy distance still.

The tomcat had been minding his own fucking business and felt the impact from inside the castle. Ever curious, he'd come out to investigate. He didn't know whether to be overjoyed at all the food... or annoyed because it would stink to high StarClan for fucking weeks... moons, maybe?

Of course he had been near when the sound of some atomic explosion was heard throughout the plains.

At first, he wasn't sure what to make of the abrupt roar of trees creaking and what sounded like - coyotes crying out? - but curiosity would get the better of him. Soon enough, Klaus was lugging his towering frame across the flat land, too interested in seeing what had caused such a strange sound to take things slowly. He figured that @Uriel girl would be nearby - after all, she did claim she lived and slept around this area. The Golden Glade wasn't too far, and that was the general direction he had been running from. As he approached, the scent of saltwater and fish clung to his nostrils, thick and unavoidable. His first thought was jumbled - to put it simply, what the hell? As his field of vision grew, his questions and the look of incredulity on his face only grew.

A large creature of immense weight and expanse had landed smack in the middle of the otherwise uneventful territory. It was astounding and far overwhelmed anything that stood beside it - himself included. Golden eyes were too focused on the ginormous carcass to notice a small Uriel standing nearby, and an even smaller feline. Their scents were nearly concealed against this putrid smell of ocean. He had to stifle a gag, still confused how such a fat, wide thing had made it this far to the land. How it had made such a loud sound. How it - how it - he couldn't think up enough questions to resolve the utter astonishment.

Instead, he turned to the small blonde girl he knew from the glade. "This is your doing, isn't it? How the fuck did you lug this monster out here, sunshine?" He accused, only half-joking. After all - as he risked a glance at the random cat - she was the only one currently here that he could fathom would do something so incredulous. His eyes were wide with residual shock, but his tone was kept light, airy. Something about this was way fucking off - and he couldn't even convince himself to step forward, fearing a second explosion from the dead beast.

Just - what the fuck?

The cat yelled, and she admittingly jumped in surprise while a shocked look over to them. She didn't know anything, although Klaus too came through and she held a light panic, "I sure hope not," although she understood it as a joke it felt hard to laugh when before her was an unknown behemoth that fell from the very sky, and fell dead to the ground itself. It had cried, before it fell, and she felt pity, for it was once a living being she just.. Didn't know what it was.

"I don't know what that is.." Uriel confessed truthfully. It reminded her like a fish, but was leathery? It was worrying to say the least because of that. It looked to be one that belonged to some kind of water by how it was shape, she could see the fins so vaguely and the tail — but not the face. It was hard to discern where they were and she peered her head lightly before shrinking it back.

The smell was nauseating.

Another wolf showed and he made sure to keep an ear on it in case it tried anything. Although most of their attention was focused on the gigantic fish-thing. Did StarClan love them or hate them? He didn't know which with this fucking offering. "Guess we ain't gotta worry about starvin' ever again." He bellowed out laughter, hoping that this smelly thing would be fine to eat. It was a fish, right? An offering just in time for his kits.

she really really really shouldn't have come out to investigate.

but that was the entire appeal of an impromptu adventure.

when the deputy hightailed it out the keep to check in on the source of the earthquake, winona, at a distance, followed after.

from bush to stone to tree to bush, she stalked expertly far behind the big tom. however, it seemed the stench reached her before it did moosebellow, as the kit fell behind in her stalking, gagging and dry-heaving.

it only made her more curious.

now she was a pair of fuzzy brows and an upright ear poking out behind a dry bush, watching the scene.

skippable unless interacted with!

Although Uriel's "I sure hope not" was near comical, Klaus was already too sketched out about the situation to utter any sort of laugh. Unlike him to be the serious type, but fitting to the circumstances. The giant carcass was hot and thick under the sun, and it only prompted the smell to worsen.

Shaking his head, he starts to turn away, finding no reason to stick around and find out what happens to such a giant mistake after the universe realizes what it's done. His legs swept up into a brisk walk, before turning back halfway to look at Uriel, almost as an afterthought mid-retreat. "I wouldn't stick around for too long. Could ruin your pretty coat, sunshine."

And with that, he was off.

FIN.

The cat seemed rather pleased at least, and there was a puppy that smelled like him.. Maybe it wasn't too out of the norm, as she had seen a strange canine in the midst of a wolf pack, and a tiger who interacted with her kind, "uhm, I don't eat meat so.. " a gesturing that it was all his and his clan altogether. Though in truth Uriel wasn't sure if it was a fish or mammal, but the cry she heard from the sky, and the smell itself let her deter from even attempting to find out anymore. Her nose scrunched — it was getting worse.

She nodded at Klaus, agreeing so.. And actually following him behind with a slight flush of her cheeks ; if he found her pretty it would lighten a bit of this strange day. Yet that slight blush and embarrassment needed a moment to cool herself down, and she would diverge her path away from the romantic man and momentarily, head to the mountains for a breath of fresh air.

exit.
