Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Rin was pleasantly healed. It wasn't a lot, but the emotional and physical toll on her body for being a loner cause more time then she would've pleased within the den ; and in so, her debt to Duskguard grew. She gradually came to understand what it was about — a man named Tiberius with his wife Olive, and a few others within the making. On occasion did she smell a tiger, though strangely enough it was one she was quite familiar with. There was some history, that she currently did not know.

Though part of her was also rather pleased by fate to find itself within a pack. She wanted to join one, but wasn't sure how to go about it. There wasn't any within the north that she was aware of ; and by no means would Rin ever even attempt to make one. She wasn't a leader, she didn't want to be a leader and have that burden onto her head, and preferred to simply live within the shadows of others.

So she strolled through — intaking everything that was, the Frostfang Vale. It was interesting to say the least, like a perfect guard against anything. They were surrounded by mountains, concaved really where the only entrance without bumps and ridges was down south. The main outlook to venture outside of the group dubbed as Duskguard. She stayed within it's borders, grouping around the edges of the forest that laid within it'd midsts.

It was fruitful. There was prey inside of boars including herds of caribou as well. There wasn't even much of a need to go outside, she thought, as the thick scent of prey was all around and so was the few wolves the entered the pack. It was a small group, enough food and prey for all around.

Rin wondered what else was in the valley.

The man had been wandering around, something he found himself doing most of the time. When he wasn't exploring and checking the borders, he was sleeping in his den. For now though, he wanted to go hunt, something he hadn't really prioritized in a while. A quick sniff told him a herd of elk was close, but so was another from the pack. He wondered for a moment if they wanted to join him. So, he wandered over, letting out a soft bark to announce his presence as he saw the shewolf.

She was rather pretty for a wolf and Genghis found himself silently wishing that he could find more like himself. Nonetheless, he was a lone bachelor that had better things to do like protect his pack. "Hello there." His voice was rather smooth and calm, though with a underlying Mongolian accent.

As she was following the various scents around, she wanted to observe the herd that laid its site into the frostfang. She wondered whether they knew about the pack the settled within or just generally had an uncaring attitude about it all ; since the mountain was so large in a way there was plenty of room for them and even more. She could Duskguard was a prominently large area, lushed with prized land that any would fight for. Momentarily wondered whether that would mean if any greedy wolves would come toward its desires.

Then someone caught her attention, calling so in a gruff voice and she looked over — definitely, not expecting to see so, nonetheless remained calm with a light tip of her head and a "hello, you come to find the herd?" Certainly, Rin knew about dogs.. Although did not expect anytime soon to see one, especially not in the harsh north. Especially not among a wolf pack — but perhaps with his size and use, it was all more the better to align self with.

He watched the woman for a moment, cocking his head to the side slightly as he listened to her. His eyes would glance back towards the prey who's scent moved around not too far from them. He wasn't really a hunter except when he had to, but he wouldn't mind hunting with her if she chose to. With a shrug, he would speak up, his eyes still off to the horizon. "Not originally. Were you trying to hunt?" He hoped that he hadn't pull her away from that, he would certainly feel bad if he did.

Thankfully though, it didn't seem like he hadn't scared away prey away or anything, so at least there was that. Nonetheless, he would glance back at her, silently wondering if she was actually planning on hunting, or just exploring around. Either way, it was nice to see another of his pack.

Rin shook her head, "No, mapping." Although a part of her was curious how someone of his proportions hunt. He had a large body with a big mane, and that wouldn't be much of a stick-out if it weren't for his shorter snout. How well does he hunt, especially the need to grapple his prey ; wouldn't he be at a disadvantage? One day she imagined she would see, as the two were the only members for the meanwhile besides the two leaders.

"The forest in the vale is very bountiful." She bent down for a moment, her nose grazing the scent of the herd tracks.. She generally was finding their path around, and it seemed they only left to graze in an elsewhere field, but their scent within was quite strong. It seemed like the wolves, they too would be a permanent residence.

The man would simply let out a soft grunt of understanding, though not saying anything to her comment about mapping. That was what she was doing and he wasn't going to stop her. But, he was content patrolling the borders. Eyes would scan the area, taking in everything as he looked for anything out of the ordinary.

It wasn't until she spoke up again that he would glance over at her, flicking an ear slightly. For a moment, he stayed quiet, looking back across the horizon. It wasn't until a few moments that he would finally speak up with a nod. "Yes, it is." He was clearly a man of little words, but he made no attempt to leave just yet, still standing like a silent guardian.
