Lost It All

The woman lost it all, everything that she had tried so hard to gain all came crashing down on her. @Vengeance had found her and made an example out of her, all while the man she had started to show feelings for watched with an emotionless mask. Her body was beyond injured, her left shoulder and forearm both broken, along with her ear being ripped off. She still had blood all over her face and back, open wounds littering the back of her neck.

She was broken and tired, finally done with life. What was she supposed to do now? She knew that @Baal-Berith hated her and, though she wanted to track him down and give him an earful of how she felt, she didn't have to strength or mental fortitude to do so right now. For now, she needed to heal, though she wasn't sure how long that would take without a healer. Sure, she knew her way around herbs but trying to do so herself was difficult.

She needed to put her shoulder back into place before anything, though there was no easy way to do that alone. So, she gritted her teeth and slammed her shoulder into a tree, biting back a scream as she felt her shoulder push back into place, causing tears escape her eyes. Once she knew it was where it was supposed to be, she gathered some vines in a crappy attempt to wrap them around her shoulder, keeping it in place.

Doc wandered, his only aim to map out the surrounding area and understand this strange new world he found himself in. Everything was green as far as the eye could see, and there was no sign of civilization anywhere. What brought him here, he wondered, and why? Doc felt an innate need to pick the very universe apart and understand what made it tick. But his ability to do so was... limited, to say the very least— in the way he was used to, anyway.

Advanced technology was out of the question (what with the lack of hands around these parts), but maybe there was another option. Maybe some higher power had answers, or there was another supernatural means of attaining what he desired. Though a skeptic by heart, he'd seen too much nonsensical madness to discount it (he'd woken up in a new universe, for God's sake). The details of said madness escaped him, but that conviction stuck fast to his soul like tar.

A strangled scream jostled him from his thoughts. Furrowing his brow, he followed the sound to find a woman who quite frankly looked like she'd just crawled out of Hell. “My God...” Doc breathed, shock overcoming his face. But it was gone in an instant, replaced with a look of professional concentration.

Like a machine, he circled 'round and scanned her body over to assess her wounds: A missing ear, the first injury he noticed. It was fresh, oxygen-rich blood still red and clotted around the base. One of her forelegs was broken— intentional, judging by the rest of her injuries. It was a moderate fracture, by no means beyond saving. Blood and pockmarks littered the back of her neck, indicating bite wounds. These were the most superficial, but no less concerning; saliva contained loads of bacteria that could easily cause an infection.

This analysis occurred over the course of about five seconds. Without even questioning what happened or who she was, Doc said, “Sit down.” It was a direct order, flat but not aggressive. “You've lost a lot of blood— it's a wonder you haven't passed out...” He mumbled the latter half to himself, refraining from adding how doing so would've spelled her demise. “Today's your lucky day, little lady. I'm going to treat you— assuming you're okay with that.” Of course, the vast majority of people were— would be begging for his help by now, even— but his bedside manner persisted. If for some reason she said "no", well... he supposed he could at least help make her comfortable.

Wait... shit. He didn't have any of his supplies on him. Hell, he didn't even have thumbs! Doc had no clue how he was going to pull this off, but he had to try. He racked his brain for traditional remedies, giving the stranger a chance to breathe and process, herself.

She grit her teeth as she panted slightly, ears twitching as she heard another. Instantly, she turned and snarled at them, though quickly realized they he was trying to help her. "Oh.. s. sorry. I thought you were someone else...." She cut herself off, not wanting to think about everything that just happened to her. For now, she would just let him heal her. Taking his advice, she would sit down, her body groaning in protest from every movement she made. As he spoke of her not passing out, it was then that she started to hear her heartbeat in her head, groaning slightly.

Turns out, her adrenaline was the only thing keeping her up and now that she was able to relax even a little bit, her body was quitting, having enough of everything. She heard him call her a lucky lady but that was in, her eyes fluttering slightly as her head fell forward towards him, her body going limp for a moment.

She didn't get a chance to really say anything as her body crumpled under her, legs giving out as her body fell forward towards a faceplant into the ground if not stopped.

She passed out for a moment, feel free to PP her or time skip a few minutes!

Absentmindedly, his ears swiveled her way as she sputtered out an apology. What got his attention was the woman's almost nauseated groan as she swayed. Fortunately, Doc managed to catch her with a foreleg: a habit from a bygone life where he had arms, instead. But it was enough to keep her from injuring herself further.

Doc scrambled away into the woods, a shopping list of makeshift medical supplies running through his mind. His intuition would be put to the test here, especially because he wasn't familiar enough with the area to know what grew here. He quickly noticed that berries grew in abundance in this neck of the woods. Upon closer inspection, he decided these would do, plucking sprigs of huckleberry and salmonberry with his teeth. Anxious to leave the injured woman for long, he headed back. On his way, he spotted borage growing in a clearing and decided to snag that just in case.

Returning to her, he set down the herbs and quickly got to work. Her torn ear was of utmost priority, as it appeared to be the primary source of blood loss. Thus, he took the bark of the salmonberry and chewed it to a pulp. Not only would it keep a nasty infection from forming, but it'd help ease the horrific pain. Once sufficiently chewed, he spread the poultice across the entire wound. Doc found himself struggling at first, finding it most effective to do so with his mouth alone. It was bizarre, but he got it done.

Next were the bite wounds scattered across the back of her neck. With huckleberry leaves now, he repeated the process he'd done with her ear, pressing poultices to each and every bite mark. Looking her over again, her left foreleg was most definitely broken. Lacking sophisticated equipment to see the internal damage, he'd have to do what he could externally. Grabbing her lower leg gently in his jaws, Doc held her upper leg in place and pulled with a firm yet cautious movement to set it back into place. The sound was sickening, and it'd no doubt be aching her when she awoke. But thankfully, she wasn't conscious to feel the worst of it. There'd be inflammation around the bone where it'd been broken and then set in place again, so he again chewed a poultice-- a hefty one this time-- and spread it all the way around her leg surrounding the break.

Huffing, he only gave himself the luxury of a rest once absolutely sure he'd covered all of her wounds. Now, he'd have to wait for her to wake up... assuming she had the strength to.

The woman had thankfully been caught as she fell, not really knowing what happened after that. Everything was black as she was sent to a dreamless slumber. It took several minutes after he had helped her that she finally awoke, her body laying on the ground as she let out a soft groan. Almost as soon as she stirred though, she let out a hiss of pain, feeling everything come back to her all at once. Her leg hurt, her shoulder hurt, her whole body hurt. Everything felt like she had been crushed under a tree. Which, in hindsight, might have been a better outcome.

Nonetheless, she would shakily push herself up, wincing as she put pressure on her hurt leg. Blinking the sleep out of her eyes, she looked around, eyes falling on the man in front of her. After a few moments she would speak up, almost unsure of what to say. "Thank you." She said simply, a rather lame response to someone you just passed out into. Without him, she was sure that she would have likely bled out or been nabbed by a hungry bear.

"Uh... what do you want in exchange?" She wasn't stupid. She knew that, even the nicest of wolves had something they typically wanted in exchange. Not only did he help her, but he had also stayed until she woke up. That had to mean he wanted something from her now that she was awake.

Eventually, she stirred with a hiss. Doc, who'd been dozing, sat up immediately. “Don't move too much.” The words practically flew from his mouth on instinct. She thanked him and asked what he wanted in return, which of course was courteous, but he said, “There's no need for that. I'm simply upholding my oath.” Though he was never a licensed doctor, healing the sick and injured was still a duty he'd appointed himself... with a few exceptions. So long as you weren't an enemy, he'd patch you up and be happy to do so. The positive result of his work by the end was the reward.

“Do you think you were followed?” Doc asked.

Even as she moved, she knew it was better for her to relax, though she was more so on edge now than ever. However, she would finally relax, looking up at the male with nothing but 'thank you' in her eyes. Silently she would wait as the man did what he needed to do, narrowing her eyes slightly as he said he didn't want anything back. She wanted to believe him, she really did, but after everything that had happened to her, she had a hard time trusting any male now.

As he asked if she was followed, she would simply shake her head, though looking back up at him. Instead of answer him though, she would glance up at his goggles, noticing they were a lot like @Hank's. "Those look familiar." She said simply, cocking her head to the side slightly.

The woman shook her head, and while he had to take her judgment with a grain of salt, no one had appeared yet, so she seemed safe... probably.

With a notably dog-like tilt of her head, she commented on his goggles, saying they looked familiar. Doc's eyes blew up wide, and he snapped forwards with sudden intensity. “Where did you see them? On whom?” If she wanted to pay him somehow, this information would be more valuable than anything else she could possibly offer.

The woman watched him as he suddenly got more interested in this conversation, causing her to glare at him slightly. She just didn't trust men right now, nothing on him. However, slowly and hesitantly she would speak up, watching him closely. "I saw them on a guy I think was named Hank. He was kind of an asshole so we didn't talk much, but he had them nonetheless." She would huff slightly as she tried to slowly stand, this time more able to do so. "What do those things mean anyway?"

His heart did a flip.

An asshole with goggles named Hank.

Hank.

He was here, unmistakably here, and this woman met him. Doc had to shake himself from his bewildered stupor when she asked him something. “They erm, they're protective eyewear... that came with us when we appeared here, for some reason,” He answered absentmindedly, gaze hollow.

“Do you remember where you were when you met him, and roughly how long ago it was? Any indicators are welcome, no matter how vague.” His follow-up question was still urgent, but less so.

The girl raised an eyebrow slightly, curious about this eyeware but too tired to really ask more about it. So instead, she would just shrug, pointing with her nose up north slightly, towards the mountains. "Up that way, he was passing by I think. We didn't stay long but it seemed like he was heading that way." With that, she would shake her body out slightly, wabbling a little as she did so.

"I should probably be on my way soon, thank you very much for helping me out." With that, she would start to walk off, wanting to find a place to relax for a little without fear of being found.

tysm for the thread!! ♥ maybe they can meet again sometime down the line.

Doc committed her directions to memory, engraving it into his grey matter. She thanked him and began to go her own way.

“Thank you; this is more valuable to me than you know. And in case we ever meet again, my name is Doc. Be careful,” He said in earnest. Maybe she'd give a name in return, maybe not. Either way, he would also move on.
