Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Another absolutely boring day of patrolling had ended. The Rubenesque male was traveling along the borders of Elysium, taking care not to cross over to the other side. He was really travelling the long way back... but he kinda hoped he would run into the other guard from Vanderfell. He knew there were other guards there, their pack wasn't like his own, but maybe just maaayyybbee he'd get lucky and see a friendly face again.

So, quite slowly, he walked along the border. His head forward but his gaze looking to the side to see if he could find his friend amongst the foliage. He was trying not to look too invested but he really really was. It excited him that he might have a friend from such a close pack.

Maybe one that he could do some real sparring with. When was the last time he got to stretch his fighting muscles?

Orlaith roamed the edges of the territory, reconfirming the scent of Vanderfell. It was a normal routine, skulking around the mass land and hunting grounds to reaffirm their claim, and watch anything that was rather suspicious. Especially as more and more she hears about the infamous tiger, a wariness would creep with caution, protectively watching the border and double checking if anything was even beyond.

At least the neighbors seemed relatively alright. They didn't have a pissing match or anything, but simply kept to their own with but a slider in-between to not overstep each other ; at least, for the places she found were like so. Their members seemed alright as well, overall a kind of various personalities but many that were nice. She enjoyed both @Valeska and Mordecai.

Speaking of him, as she traveled close to the borders, "Yo," she greeted with a lopsided grin.

There she was! He turned to her with a grand smile, his nubby tail wagging and betraying his excitement... before he remembered to try to keep his cool. He lessened his smile and gave an upwards jerk of his head, "'Sup!" Although, it was clear to see how very excited he was because his little nub still hadn't stopped wagging.

"What are you up to?" Oof, that was a dumb question. It was clear she was patrolling, as she was always doing when they met. "Uh, besides doin' a patrol?" Recovery, successful? She could be like him and multitasking by looking for food or a good napping spot while keeping an eye on the border.

Her tailed waved in the air as a greeting, "Hey there," Orlaith said as she approached the border with a bit more haste. While, also marking it right in front of his ass. Gotta show dominance, yeah? Remark the border while she is patrolling after all, and was smirking at him, "nothing much. Went to a wedding. Haven't seen any dangerous monsters or what not." An update to the scenario from last time.

"Kinda feel like my muscles growing weak, yeah? Used to fighting all the time between packmates but everyone is relatively peaceful." She held a few spars every so often, although the top warrior that was the High Queen was pregnant, and thus nothing could be done about that. Likewise the rest weren't too many as warriors, and she knew of the High King. At least some, spared her every so often.

"Wanna spar?"

So casual, so bold. He liked that! Although, he didn't want to put his Mordi stink on top of her Orlaith stink so he'd wait till later to do his marking. "A wedding? But, I didn't see you at that wedding..." Was there another wedding? Or maybe she'd been sitting at the back and he hadn't noticed? But then... wouldn't she have said "hi"? He would have said "hi" if he'd seen. Oh no, what if she thought he was being rude because she had seen him at the wedding!

Oh wait... naaaaawwwwww. Then she wouldn't be being all friendly now. Yeah! Life was good.

Although now there was a wedding mystery going on...

Hmm... "Oh yeah! I know what that's like. I ain't had a good fight in like... uh..." Let's see, carry the three... Add the four... "Maybe like a few seasons. I'm gettin' all outta shape." He'd actually never been in shape. "It's all nice an' junk that there ain't no danger but y'know, sometimes I wish sooomeeetthhiiinnnggg would happen." He had to keep his fighting skill up, y'know?

And then she said the magic words!

"Do I?!" He practically bounced on his --very heavy-- paws in excitement before dropping down into a fighter's stance. Ears pinned, eyes narrowed, weight evenly distributed just like he was taught all that time ago. His lips curled back into a smug smile, that happy-go-lucky fellow fading away in an instant. The smile exposed his teeth in a ready position while it also protected his throat. Friendly fight but he should still remember the basics. "You can go first..." It allowed him to get a read on how she would come at him.

How we doin' this, yo? Dice? Just go with the flow?

"It's a pack allied to my own. Apparently it used to be a packmate of mine, and he got married to an Empress. Ain't that somethin'?" She could only assume it was a wedding within their own empire. She did see Valeska pregnant after all ; wouldn't be surprised if she married someone. Although wolves at the same time aren't one's to do 'marriage,' and she didn't really see cerenomies like that within her homeland. Although it was nice ; the warrior wouldn't want to be apart of it. The attention seemed sickly — and couldn't see herself slathered in flowers like the other nobles. Although now she thought of it..

They were neighbors, but were either of them invited to each others weddings?

Well whatever, she shrugged it off and shook her pelt slightly. Dusting the dirt off and whatever — before Orlaith, by literally, charged at him like a bull. She was never one for thinking straight, much less thinking of another way to attack — she was a fan of a charging headbutt.

Huh, that was something! What a coincidence. A whole separate wedding for a whole separate pack that was so close together! Funny how things worked out! He wondered if Orlaith had been all prettied up with flowers and whatnot. What would she look like with pretty flowers?

 Probably reeeaalll nice.

 Then, the battle began.

Just as Orlaith wasn't one to think things through and strategize, neither was Mordecai. He saw how she charged in and that was all that he needed. The warrior growled and then charged forward as well. He was a big fellow, a very big fellow and so he always used his size in fights to get advantageous positions.

Or to just duel it out with an equally large opponent. That was where Orlaith fell.

She charged straight at him, head landing painfully in the spot between his chest and leg. That would most certainly bruise! He let out a "whoosh" of air but didn't let that deter him. He sucked in his breath and then tried to grab her scruff in his mouth while wrapping a paw across her shoulder. His attempt was to use his size to throw her off-balance or onto the ground. He would use his raw strength to do so, ready to wrestle with her to see how they matched up against each other strength-wise. There was almost nothing better than pitting your strength against someone else.

She made contact, feeling the numbness and minor headache that came to a successfully landing ; which was rather surprising. Most if not all opponents made an easy dodge if there wasn't an element of surprise, and often she simply went around like a bull — whipping pure strength then anything else. It seemed as if the two were of equal in thought, going by the size and raw strength they have then any bulk work.

He grabbed her scrub, a paw over and a pressure that felt like was both trying to topple her over or press down into a submission. As her head was right to his chest though, her fangs snapped at the one leg that was free. An awkward angle, almost as if she was grabbing an armpit — a point not many would face due to where they were ; any other chance it would cause a large hurt, but in this moment a discomfort or even.. A tickle. It was her attempt to make him adjust off of her.

It was a strange sensation. Pain but also... not... because her maw was at his armpit and was biting at it. He snorted into her scruff at the sensation, his hold loosening briefly as he tried to take in this new sensory information. Tickling was not usually a thing in a fight and it threatened to break his concentration. He attempted to readjust, trying to grab another hold of her scruff or back and make his mouth remain shut even though he wanted to laugh. The result... was probably not something very strong.

Still, he attempted and while doing so would try to shift his armpit away from her. Sort of side-shuffling and tucking his arm back into his side to try to hide his armpit, while trying to keep his other arm over the top of her and apply more pressure to force her down or force her to move her maw.
