Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

(@Satchel ?)this takes place in the upper-right corner of temperate!

the burning of her lungs; it is an all-too-familiar ache as she kicks downward. the river grows hazy this deep under the water; her eyes strain against the edges of her field of vision. twisting, she peers up at the light dappling through the water, shifting and refracting above her. her limbs still and she begins to float upward, shifting only slightly to keep from colliding with reaching arms of waterweed that loom suddenly to the right. all too soon does her crown breach the surface, and then the thin line of her spine.

lazily do her limbs begin to move, keeping the thin line of her body perpendicular to the bank as she allows the current to carry her downriver. clouds on the horizon threaten rain, but they're a ways off and likely to present a problem later in the afternoon.

snagging! <3

Always moving, nowadays. Especially since given her mission by Vengeance.
Eldra hadn't been this far up into the forests before now, curiously looking around as she explored.

Catching sight of the river, the monolith woman prowled toward the waters, emerging from the treeline like a pale angel of death might - calm, collected, eerily watching.

She does not especially care for the southernmost reaches of her fen. The many small winding streams peter out, leaving only a few larger ones like the one she floats in now, stemming from somewhere within the treeline further south. It's too clean-cut, simple; not at all to her taste. She would be content to let the river carry her back to her chosen home, were it not march. Even the nixie can only tolerate the cold of the water for so long, and when the numbness of her skin begins to prickle in pain, she slips nimbly from the water, ascending the easternmost bank. A shake of her pelt, and a few pointed licks to shed the majority of the water from her mantle; the rest will dry in time.

Gaze finds then the giant wolf in the treeline, a fair distance away still, though the stranger's lumbering steps bear her closer. Confident their paths will cross, but uninterested in hastening the process, the sylph perches on her hindquarters, beginning then to preen the soft fur of her chest while keeping some portion of her attention on the gradual approach of the white wolf.

Eldra paused for a few moments, watching the sylph with mild interest.
It appeared both she-wolves weren't too worried about exchanging pleasantries? The assumption could only be made.

The demon let out a yawn and decided to continue to prowl around a bit, eyes searching and taking in the scenery.

The push of the breeze begins to sting; she can only hope that the coming warmth of spring will not delay its coming. For a moment, the pair consider each other, the sylph straightens. But the lumbering woman prowls onward, and the sylph's gaze narrows a fraction. She does not like being ignored. The woman does not appear to do much of anything; not especially driven by a search or a hunt or anything that would warrant ignoring the nixie. When the stranger draws near enough so that the girl does not have to yell, she calls to her.

"Hail, stranger!" comes her lilting voice. "Are you especially dull?" there is only curiousity in the words; perhaps all her energies had gone to growing her body and not her mind. Certainly, no intelligent being would simply pass by the river-nymph, she decides, and though malice sparks inside, no spark of it shows on her face, in the tilt of her pretty head.

  • Talk and thoughts of Cannibalism
Eldra looked to the nymph with an amused snort at her words.
"Are you especially self-conceited?" The Soldier mirrored the airiness back with a lilt to match the pixie's own. Antagonistic as the response was, Eldra was already busy analyzing the smaller female, looking for potential weak spots...and then, she mused with a growing Cheshire grin
"I wonder if your flesh tastes as nice as you look...perhaps your screams will be as big as your ego?"
Forward did she move, directly toward the conceited bitch with the gait of a predator stalking prey.

If the Seelie wanted attention, Eldra would give it in the way a sick monster would.
She had nothing better to do at the moment than to get a fresh meal, especially one so pretty!
Her grin said it all - Eldra really wasn't playing. She saw the nymph as food.

An empty smile at the words, noting with pleasure how easily the woman allows herself to be manipulated, her focus to be drawn. Even if hate guides the stranger's steps now, she's become a great deal more interesting. Malice churns, grows, even though the messy tangle of battle is not her strength, she remembers the way the water received her once; the way she'd lured others to it. That is not the way of this world; still, she is fast and knows the secrets of the fen, and so she is unafraid when the lumbering woman offers to eat her.

She slips to her feet, offering a shake of her pelt. "Careful, girl, you're overcompensating." Another tight smile, though her gaze is unreadable as she watches the woman. "I'm lovely, though you don't get a taste," A teasing pout, though she is light on her feet, ready and able to move.

Eldra cackled coldly at the pixie's words, only giving a hungry stare in response as she suddenly ripped forth in a surprising blow of speed, given her size, and with her swift charge she lunged head-on, arcing her fangs wide in an effort to crush the Seelie's face under powerful jaws.

She had been expecting the rush, and the woman is hardly subtle or strategic in her blunt attack, jaws aiming for her face. But the sylph is already turning, twisting and springing away. A tug at her shoulder; the woman has caught downy fur in her seeking jaws, and some of it comes away in them. The woman, and those boring, bloodthirsty types like her are nothing if not predictable. An insult or two, and swiftly do they devolve to an angry set of jaws, driven by their rage.

The sylph dances backward, but this has not become a chase, not yet. "You really are stupid, aren't you?" Evidently, she is not especially concerned with her mortality.

It wasn't the insults that brought out the beast.
It was the audacity to think one was so important without knowing the one they spoke to.

But as the Seelie danced back, Eldra kept coming without relent, paying no mind to the egotistical dog's words. It was as if the half breed hadnt said anything at all as Eldra bullied forward without a pause and aimed teeth for the small femme's neck.

Slightly different is this new attack, her aim only a little lower. How dull, she thinks, already darting away, but the thought is interrupted when fangs catch a little closer this time. They tear across the apex of where one willowy forelimb meets her leg, and though she puts distance between them with all the swiftness that is hers by blood, crimson wells against white fur. Eyes flash, but still, she does not know fear. Instead, it is disdain and slight surprise writ across her face, and she manages, "fine, I'll give you that much."

But she's not keen on the woman taking any more tastes, and besides, she's proven to be rather simple-minded after all. One more glance, and the siren turns tail and flees downriver, banner of a tail flying high as she follows the steam.

Finally, a slash. The Seelie keeps going back, Eldra keeps coming forward. She's very much intending to take more.

And as the smaller woman turns to run, Eldra chases for a while before ultimately letting her escape. It wasn't worth her while.

A sharp dismissive snort following a loud snarl, the titan turns back and trots in a new direction. Where she was going? She didn't know
