Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The Dragon's Dispay
Welcome to the first event that Dragonford Holds! This event is OPTIONAL, and your character does not have to participate even if they are tagged. The goal is to deepen bonds between members alike, and you will be randomly paired with a character within the pack that is not on NPC. If your partner does not show up or participate in the event, you are free to join 'The King's Table,' with Vendrussel who welcomed those without a pair for a feast. If your character was not tagged, please DM! Or be welcomed at The King's Table.

Each party will have a boar, lamb, or goat to feast upon! Provided by Vendrussel. You are welcome to either stay within the thread, or expand out into a private one. Due to separate conversations happening, there will be no post order.

The Pairs are the Following:
@Dream + @Jun
@Dreadnought + @Ghost
@Altair + @Vedette
@Kei + @Olympia-Elune
@Campion + @Belial

Fight after fight she felt her body sore. Vendrussel felt she was going down an aggressive path, more then she thought to be within this land and after numerous mistakes. She could feel her bones crack when she rolled her muscle and head, the tension that never seemed to leave. She was tired, at the very least, an exhaustion settling from the wariness of random rogue battles and a war that always seemed to be looming over but never yet to approach. Bonds made within Dragonford only to be betrayed — it's safe to say she has grown as a person, at least, she would like to think so.

Then it came to mind — she hadn't thrown a Dragon's Display event yet. A vital core to her homeland. Where members party and interact, joining and loving amongst each other ; some, treating it as a hook-up, but others taking it as a valuable event to find a partner within this life. So, she had set to work, as exhausting as it was..

They may not be the freshiest of kills, for one wolf could only do so much, but she managed to drag various of rams, goats and even boars from the Brim, to the sepulcher. Into the forest did she go, to the fresh water source that was a vital part of their living situation. She spread them out appropriately, then called to the sky itself. Non-urgent, un-needed, optional but a festive was voiced throughout.

As bodies would come in she would great them on a high rock by the cave, dubbing it, as 'The King's Table," where it was flat enough for herself and other participants to join in, "Welcome to The Dragon's Display," her tail wagged slightly behind, maybe a bit too eager on such an event, "battles, war, betrayal, it's now time for festivities. To celebrate what we have done so far. Before you all, you will see meals. You will be paired with someone, and share such a meal with them and explore such bonds with each other. If they do not appear, or feel it's not going well, you are free to join me upon this rock."

She circled it before facing them once more. There was a boar behind her, "May the festival begin."

 A challenge presented itself. The waters churning between isle to isle had been a trial. It was the fastest way of transportation... and the only way. Where in one life, she had not ever bothered with the salty brine, now she was forced to face it head-on. Vedette spent her free time taking small swims in between the closer isles, back and forth. It was a good workout; one she had not tried before. The soldier had been swimming at the time that Vendrussel let out a call. Even though it wasn't urgent, Vedette was pulled out of the water like a cannonball from a cannon, moving as quickly as she could to heed her new commander's call.

 Vendrussel stood on a high rock and Vedette's dead stare met her gaze as she looked among those who would slowly fill the empty spaces in front of the cave. 'Welcome to the Dragon's Display.' Vedette's observance did not falter from the woman's lips. She noticed every note that fell out of them, not wanting to miss a beat. 'Battles, war, betrayal...' It didn't take a genius to figure out that a lot had happened before she arrived on the scene. She sat back somewhat, shoulders starting to hunch as she felt like she didn't deserve to eat the food that had been for warriors that had made a home here even before her. But it was too late. She was being paired with someone else and had not much of a choice to disappear into the crowd. She'd be noticed as missing.

 The dusk dragon turned her head to find the partner she'd been paired with after Vendrussel released them to each other. There wasn't a sense of nervousness in her. There wasn't much of an emotion that boiled within her. She needed to get to know the others that lived within the ford. Create bonds other than with the commander. Problem was, she was not very social and lacked basic conversational skills. They would indeed find her short in this very instance.

@Altair, we can continue here or make a separate thread? <3

 It had been at the shores, sitting in the water. More specifically, it was studying the fish. Their strange movements, how they curled about its paws. It had been testing them and itself, swatting the creatures to see if it could swat them. Lunging to grab them to perfect its movements. Only perfection was allowed. Anything less and it was certain that it would displease the light more than it already had.

 A call broke out, breaking into his consciousness and distracting him from his task. It was Vendrussel's call. Momentarily he thought to ignore it for the call was not urgent... but did it not need to forge bonds? To fit in? There was a moment of contemplation before the boy decided to leave his current task for later and attend the leader.

 There were already some gathered and like a wraith, he slid into the back. He was as still as a statue, eyes wide open in that unfocused stare. It listened to Vendrussel speaking of this event. To be honest, it was quite disinterested in this "Dragon's Display" but for the sake of making allies wouldn't walk away.

 When it was time to convene, the boy did not move and instead sat in his spot. Eyes darting here and there until he laid eyes on his partner... and he would stare until he was noticed.

Ghost will frequently switch between he/it pronouns. Feel free to use whichever your character is comfortable with.

^^The call that summoned him was not one of urgency, but how often was it that they did anything fun? So the Reborn had come as called, listening to the Mother Dragon as she went on to explain what they were to do.

The Dragon’s Display was not brawl themed, as Belial had assumed. Not a display of any kind, it would seem, but one giant blind date. Oh, that’s cool. He flickered an ear, wondering how they were supposed to know who their date was.

He sat down and looked around. Was he supposed to pick someone to dine with? He hoped not. They were all strangers to him.

 The man was extremely lucky to find himself already lounging about the isle when she called. The tide had risen by the time he woke so, he just stayed and waited. Watching as the alpha dragoness would drag corpse after corpse through the water and onto a flat rock. She didn't mention it to eat it so, he held his horses and staved off his own hunger.

 When he heard her howl he just listened for a moment, enjoying its sound. Before of course he realized it held meaning, to which he shot up his head and looked around. He watched as her subjects -and his new comrades- either arose from the island they were already on or swam from the shore to greet her.
 All their ears listening and watching, while Campion sat curiously at them all. What she said was rather confused in his head, for by the time he became fully focused, she was done speaking. Something about 'display', 'partner', and - oOO! 'meal'!
 The man didn't stand up immediately, however. Instead, he stayed laying and waited for everyone else's behavior so he could possibly mimic them. They all seemed to move naturally, understanding the event perfectly. Had they all done it before? Was he the only soul that didn't know?

The Wild still lingered in him and the wolf in him merely slept.

She didn't come to the call from wolves. She came to the call from her favourite Dragon, though, and she sauntered all the way there. Olympia did little to hide her dismay at the other creatures who had come scuttling to the same call and with an air of arrogance did she hoist her chin to the sky and continue on. Olympia saw @Ghost her perfect little minion and her light gaze twinkled with delight, having come to terms with their interest in her and had began thinking of how she might use it to her advantage. The feline would slink next to the boy and roughly shove her head into his shoulder before she slid past him.

To her throne.

Next to Vendrussel.

Why would she want to be paired with anyone?

They weren't superior. Not like her.

Olympia leapt up to the rock to display herself next to Vendrussel and the growing girl cooed softly as she drew her tongue possessively along the Dragoness' shoulder.

 She was sat next to a child.

 Whether that was some sly remark on Dreadnought's prospects or a simple lack of pairable matches, she gazed across the way to her dining partner, blinking for them when their eyes remained fixed on her charcoal form.

 “What is your name, young one?”
