Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

There was a dazzling explosion of lights and colors and then there was simply nothing.

Estero did not know how she came to be here but when her eyes fluttered open she was met by a blanket of black that cloaked her vision. As she roused within the heavy fog she batted her dark eyelashes slowly, squinting as small moving dots of light began to faintly appear within the dark shroud. They were growing more and more dense by the minute. She couldn’t see past them.

She couldn’t see.

“H-h-ello?” The echo of her own voice nearly startled her, the dark maidens' heart thudding loudly in her chest. Her front paws guardedly reached out in front of her, feeling her toes around the terrain upon which she laid. It was solid ground as far as she could tell.

Her head swiveled around, a reflex to try and look at her surroundings. However, no matter where she turned, all she could see was the puzzling galaxy of dots.

Midnight approached, the dazzling galaxy could not be seen above for the fog rolled in. Familiar, it rarely seemed to leave as whatever beast that occasionally moaned within the back-drop always brought it with when it was lonely. The night especially felt dangerous, for that was when wolves of a rogue origin particularly tended to try and sly by in the back-drop. Restless nights for Vendrussel, who became more active on guarding it's sands when it seemed many who knew of them, yet disliked, returned back to it's depths. Even if they could not fully claim, she would show — that they were always nearby.

In the midsts of that fog, there was a voice that stood out. Not one of aggression, but the familiar tone of someone lost and scared, and she, prowled through. Were they lost in such a place, or was this but another figure that appeared upon the beaches? Washing up was not uncommon for the ford no more, as it seemed there was maybe too many that did so. Though it was suspicious how conveniently some appeared on the isle.. Time and time again proved they were not a hostile entity.

In the distance she saw a jet-black figure with long hair, and assumed that was the one who called out. She gave a chuff from behind, padding quickly over, "Hail," so she greeted, "are you alright?"

Unbeknownst to her she was situated in the middle of a shallow crater on the yawning shore, a sitting duck for the burbling beasts lingering deep within the shadows.

To be in the perpetual dark and surrounded by silence with nothing but your own hummingbird heartbeat to keep you company would surely drive anyone mad, if destined to a fate like that for an eternity.

Thankfully that was not the case for Estero.

Under the thick cover of fog her plea for company was heard. One beast approached, materializing out of the murk, but it was not a monster of myths. Estero upturned her head, pointing it towards where the voice had sounded out from above her.

“Yes, I – I think so.” She couldn’t be too sure, but nothing felt out of place.

Except for her in her entirety.

Though the night laid and the fog thick, but she approached and closer for a clearer view. They were primarily dark, tall like herself but they were thin, not within sickly but just a fragile, petite figurine. But that was not what drawn her closer ; for even in the darkness could she see the swimming whites within the others eyes. A locked in galaxy upon her face that cause the dragoness to pause for a moment, for a wonder if whether a mortal of a deity was upon this beach.

"Where did you come from?" Steady though, a flickering of her tail as she questioned the other calmly, whether on some sort of celestial being, or even just a regular wanderer from another world altogether.
