Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Olive @Archon back-dated thread <3

If he squinted enough, Tiberius might be inclined to believe that the looming trees had a life all their own. He knew they were alive but sometimes he felt that they were watching him as he stalked through their shadowed grounds. In the distance the rushing water could be heard, twitching his ears as he sought out two particular wolves. Archon had been more than happy to return with them until he would seek out his friend to tell them of his new plans, accepting his place within the home that he and Olive sought to grow.

Duskguard would be his legacy, their legacy and there was little he wouldn't do to safeguard it. ^^

^^You know, the idea of love, marriage, and courtship was not an entirely new thing to Archon; he had just not… put any thought into it until lately. (Pre-Olive&Tib) There’d been no need to think about it, because there’d been Olive and there’d been Benry, who acted like a couple, but also not really? (Come to think of it, he hadn’t seen his cougar uncle in some time…)

His birth parents had been mated, of course; an arranged sort of ordeal to connect two neighboring nations and had Archon stayed within Blackwood, he would have been subjected to an arranged marriage as well, along with other things that Archon wasn’t typically fond of.

What was it with kings, queens, and wanting to wed their children to complete strangers? Archon hadn’t had to deal with any of that nonsense here, thankfully. He was related to no one, and as far as he could make of it, none of his family had found the means to follow him. So he’d made his own family, with all of his closest friends!

Olive made for the perfect mother, and now she had Tiberius, who wanted to get to know him! He seemed like he would make for a nice dad, and he even had a super cool tiger uncle, with a fire lady auntie, and a groovy cougar as his uncle, and Hawking who was his, according to Tiberius, his mate.

So, of course, you know, when Tiberius offered to see his mother — the momma’s boy jumped at the chance! They had so much to catch up, and he had to get to know Tiberius, his new friend family member, who was waiting for them both back at Elsewhen. (What a weird name for a mountain.) It felt good to feel like he belonged; like he was in the right place & that was a feeling that Archon wanted to hold onto for as long as he could.

For once, Olive did as she was instructed: after her excursion to and from Elysium, and while Tiberius was off scouting locations, she stayed put. This was largely in part to her recent injured ankle, an injury with a nature that only required rest in order to heal. She moved very little, and hunted even less; which was no problem for her, as the consistent morning sickness dwindled her appetite down to almost nothing. Mere berries were enough to sustain here, these long and lazy days — and it felt as if doing this somehow harkened back to another life, or another storyline.

Eventually, and without much effort on Olive's part, her ankle began to mend. So did the unending nausea, which she more or less became used to as a constant state of being, and decided to live in spite of it. The Elsewhen was not a big place (to say the least), so when the woman heard unfamiliar noises stirring in her woods, she somehow knew exactly who it was. Bounding towards him despite herself, Olive prepared to bowl him over and pepper the inkdark man in beholden kisses, and forthwith allow him in on the news that she had kept to herself for some number of days.

What she wasn't expecting, was to see Archon sauntering by his side.

Olive hadn't seen the boy since they had returned from the wedding and the mother was quietly impressed how the young man had inserted himself back into her life without her goading or coaxing — like a grown-ass man, taking care of his own grown-ass business. Olive simpered and danced right up to them, nuzzling into the cheek of the other grown man, unable to ignore how she could immediately tell he had been wounded, but shuffled it to her mental back-burner rather quickly. "Oh, so I see you have finally met!" she still exclaimed, wondering immediately where and when their paths had crossed, and how they had come to know that they were family; it must be a story to tell! Joy radiating out of her face, she extricated herself from Tiberius, and moved to embrace Archon.

She came to him without a summons, as if she had a sense that was specific to him. The titan wouldn't put it past her. His marred lips shifted with amusement when she came barrelling over and gave a pause in surprise when she realised he wasn't alone. In his company was Archon, bouncing merrily at his side as they walked their mission to return to Olive. Tiberius would not hesitate to lean into her nuzzle, giving her a secretive lick to her covered cheek as he chuckled shortly, ''aye,'' his molten gaze would drift to Archon as his lady would move towards her son.

''Welcome tha newest member ta Duskguard, Angel,'' he rumbled as he would recline himself to his haunches and watch with a tilted smirk as the two reunited once again. Things were... coming together and he was happier for it. ^^

^^It was the most wonderful thing, watching the realization inch across his Ma’s face as she had put the two and two together, and seeing Archon with Tiberius. He would, of course, giggle towards his mother’s exclamation, and then grin innocently towards her with the beat of his tail. He would pay them some respect, glancing away as they showered each other in affection, even if it felt weird to have Olive shower someone with lovings, as he’d not seen this side of her before.

And then, of course, it was his turn, and Archon returned her love tenfold, as usual. He took note of Tiberius’ love name for his mother, storing it to memory with the slightest tilt of his head, and then sitting up straight with a proud grin and wag of his tail as Tiberius introduced him as their newest member — as if Olive had any doubt.

“Hi, packmate! Archon said, with another giggle and playful smirk of his own.

As Tiberius re-introduced Archon, Olive made a show of dancing around the young man,  regarding him from every angle, as if looking at him in a new light; then she took a step backwards and dipped into a low and sweeping bow.  "Welcome, Sir Archon of Duskguard," she sang sweetly as she greeted him anew, glancing upwards with a raised brow, then paddling her feet back so that she was standing back at full height. It was all rather dramatic, but that was the point. They had been in Frostchant together, and in Little Haven before that; though the boy was prone to his adventures, Olive was made glad to learn that he still thought of her as home.

The argent passed a glance towards Tiberius, enticed by the sight of him to double back around and rake herself against him, utterly pleased to have both individuals with her at once. It was crazy to think how,  up until now, neither of their presences had overlapped, but both had such a profound effect upon her heart, and her reason for living. "Please tell me, how and where? I was almost certain I was going to be the one to introduce you both," she beseeched them, her aura growing to be tinged with pink, though possibly no one could see it — not even herself, so consumed was she with the present moment.

Even though she deeply desired the intimate knowledge of every detail of their meeting, Olive felt that very little could trump the news that she had to share (of course, not yet knowing that Tiberius had found a magical mountain range). Her chest felt effervescent, as if a cloud of powder-white butterflies fluttered within the confines of her ribcage. The woman glanced from the amber-hued boy to the onyx-slate man at her side, steeping in the anticipation (of which, only she was aware) for a moment longer. "I as well have a surprise for you both," she uttered in a softly saccharine pitch.

Her eyes flashed with aliveness, the likes of which she hadn't felt barely at all in the past few days. All fatigue and sickness had left her, as her blithe joy seemed to be the remedy for her many ailments. "Something wonderful has taken root within me..." her ears swiveled like antennas attempting to locate a signal, and she ended up pressing her crown against Tiberius's cheek to stymie her fidgeting. "The next generation of our pack,"" she tasted the words as they formed on her tongue and lifted from her lips, and they tasted sweet. Just as some things rang intrinsically bad, this instinctively rang so very, very good.

Olive lifted her head for a moment, pointing her nose towards the earth, but glancing at Archon. "Your brothers and sisters,"" she suggested, for a moment allowing in the intrusive thought that perhaps this was only significant to she; until they were born, it was only she that could feel them (eventually), or even know that anything existed within her at all. But if Archon was as excited for Duskguard as it seemed, and if Tiberius was as motivated as her seemed, then this was certainly something that they could celebrate together — as a family.

Olive looked to the side, eyebrows lifted, meeting the yellow of Tiberius's gaze. "I know it now, with certainty," she whispered to him, pressing her third eye to his cheekbone once more.
